    People have to have real expectations. Can only chase what the land holds. Properties is keys for these guys. Next is age.

    Wow, that message was absolutely 100% on point. After hearing that, I realized that's exactly who I was. Living in Northern Michigan expecting to shoot 150" public land bucks, I would see em, but never get a crack, which in turn lead me to going 16 years without bagging a buck because I was solely focused on shooting a monster. Well I eneded the streak this year after 200 hours on stand chasing a 140" ten point i took a nice 8 opening morning of rifle season with a compound. 30 years old being brought to tears.

    This message is DEAD ON! I mean, last year I shot an 11 point buck with a smaller rack, yet it almost got me crying from happiness. We still got him mounted, despite the fact he’s not my first deer.

    Thank you for the kind words and great message to young hunters like me! I’ve started out in an 8’ trash find ladder stand behind my housing development and every year since I’ve started hunting I’ve learned something new by being in that stand and how deer behave. Each year there has been a bigger archery buck shot out of that stand and I now moved it deep into public to further its legacy!

      Enjoy the process. I found it very rewarding when you set a goal and have discipline to only accomplish that goal. It makes you a better hunter. Do not settle at the last minute. Your progress through the journey will be faster and more enjoyable. Best of luck this year ~ Terry

    • @spencerhess9019
      @spencerhess9019 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the wisdom Terry! Will do my best on sticking to the goals I’ve set and not flooding the woods every chance I get but planning out my hunt more strategically. From now on I’m going to get my buck aged, I wish I would’ve with the two my father and I took this past season. Best of luck to you as well and hope your knee recovery goes smoothly!

    Terry and Don are the freaking best. Prayers continue for Dons Daughter to keep fighting the good fight! Wishing Terry and his wife the best as well as they continue their journey together working with a new company. I am 34 and started bow hunting last year, took a buck to the taxidermist 2 months after I bought by bow and he said I already ruined my hunting carrier. Oh well, I will keep hunting and listening to the podcast picking up tips to get better, maybe get lucky again someday. I also love that I can listen to the podcast with my entire family. #Faith#Family#Hunting

    I couldn’t agree more! Congratulate a new hunter for a four point or a doe like it is a B&C monster because to that person it is! I’m gonna be totally honest I had never heard this mans name. But I will be following him from now on. Not just because of the fact that he is an accomplished trophy whitetail hunter but more so because of the wisdom he shared at the end of this video. I hope a lot of folks heard that and I hope they will take that advice to heart so they can help us continue to grow the sport we love so much! Thank you Sir for sharing your trophies and your wisdom. As always thanks to Exodus for making it possible!!

    ..thanks for limping around the place with us...been there, done that...You are dead on with the indirect or direct shaming of small buck that seems to be gaining momentum... Of all the buck my family and I have taken over the years, the most meaningful buck to me in order are
    1) first buck my daughter shot with her compond (a 4 point that to this day her proud papa is grinning ear to ear.)
    2) my wifes 2nd buck of her life she shot - a big PA bow kill totally on her own the last day of the season where she busted her ass all season with the ups and downs that come with a long season;
    3) both my younger brothers first buck (both 2.5 year olds that did not score higher than 100 P & Y, and finally
    4) an average size mule deer that I shot out in Montana that was essentially a "come back" trip for me as I was still recovering from a brutal multi-surgery battle where they had to take most of my intestines and half of my right lung...I was by myself this particular day and way back in the bear paw mountains and I totally and unexpectedly broke down as I reached this deer for the first time ever as I finally let myself reflect on how cool it was to be able to hunt despite this perpetual battle with this never ending disease...
    AND SIZE OF ALL THESE BUCK HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW MEANINGFUL THESE DEER AND RESPECTIVE HUNTS WERE... Thanks for your sound advise... and Exodus, you hit it this one out of the park... Peace..

    For the bike get a motorcycle or bike rail to hold the front tire steady n put some hooks on the floor n use pull straps to pull from handlebar to floor on each side won’t go nowhere. Just don’t over tighten your front fork suspension, lil snug is all u need.

    Another great episode and a beautiful trophy room I also loved the message at the end it was perfect. I started self filming two years ago and I shot a 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer and you would of thought I shot a button buck with spots 😂 by some of the responses. I also liked how he talked about the progression of getting to where he is . I think it's important to shot doe and If you have to smaller bucks to build your confidence. That way your able to get to the point to harvest a mature buck and you can make the shot when needed.

    At 28 , I can agree with what he said about young hunters.... I started at 13... killed lots of small and medium bucks and in the last 5 years started to kill some monsters... but if I would have been forced to wait on only the big ones at 13, I would have lost Patience and probably wouldn't enjoy hunting today

    He has a good point, social media and tv sets unrealistic expectations on most average hunters...these guys hunt almost every day of season, and in some of the best managed properties in the best states in the country. Most guys get a handful of days a year to hunt, in high pressure or public properties so you can't expect to kill record book deer every year.

We rented an old farm house back out Indian Hollow Road as we were planning on building a house there by the new elementary school. My dad was starting a church that met in the old bank building there in Gore. Things didnt work out and we moved after about a year. That's right, let them enjoy the journey! After a while you can run the antler size and age thing in the ground and spoil it all. I am picky on what i shoot but i certainly didn't get that way over night. You have no idea how many smaller deer i have killed to get where i am now. I enjoyed it all and regret none. I have a lot of deer under my belt now and so what i do has changed some but i was always proud of any deer and time well spent. This is very important for young hunters especially, it's not always about bragging and antlers. Anybody who shames a hunter for the size of their kill shame on you! Be glad they are out there trying and that they have an interest. Encourage them, congratulate them and know they are what carrying on these wonderful things depends on!

    Dang man why ya gotta shoot mehh lol and had an old friend who named his buck he shot smokee which is my legal first name and not sure if that's how y'all spelled it but still cool and congrats on all those awesome looking deer!! I was lucky enough to shoot a main frame 10 with split brows that I watched for about 5 years at 14 yards and he fell at 48 yards from being double lunged with my bow and my grandpa said it sounded like I could barely breathe when I called him to tell em what had happened in the 2018 season and also was blessed with a mature 8 point at eleven yards on public land that season as well and had no track job because I was shaking so bad from him pushing does all around me that I squeezed the trigger once I was behind the shoulder and shot high being a spine shot but was able to put another in him so he wouldn't suffer and he expired very quickly and then said a quick prayer as usual after the shot because it's the right thing to do but I've shot luckily 6 or so deer all under 15 yards because of help from the good lord above over a 4 year span but mostly enjoy just watching the animals when I'm out hunting that I've past on some studs even at 7 yards from the ground only because I wanted to really learn how the deer moved and used the senses that they were created with to make better decisions for myself or even helping others when hunting public land and for my own knowledge in learning how deer move on my grandpa's 10 acres. But happy hunting to ya and anyone else who may read this and have a blessed season!.🦌🎯

    I dont get the fun in hunting a "deer farm". Like what is the point? I feel like it would take a lot of skill out of hunting.

      When someone has only killed deer on a private farm they start to believe they’re a deer hunter not a deer farmer, or they’re in denial! Ego can be a terrible thing.

      Dude is killing them off private farms in the best whitetail states, they should be saying this as a disclaimer in video but ego won’t let them.

    Is it me or did he say he killed his first buck at 18 then a minute later he walks over to a buck and says this is my first deer at 21, then says it was his third buck? Someone please tell me I’m not going crazy.

      Then after he shows the magazine of Higgins he picks up a rack and says thus was my first buck. Damn how many first bucks. I can’t believe one word that is said. Wow

      Parts of it were cut out to make it not to long so some of it didn’t get fully explained. The buck in the garage was the first buck i killed that was big enough to mount - shot it with gun . I think i was 21 or 22. The one in basement was when i was 18 with bow that i shot in butt. That was my first deer. Filming was pretty nerve racking.

    Just not relatable at all for public land hunters, the lack of transparency is the wordt part. Just come out and say unless you have access to private farms in Illinois or Iowa, don’t expect to shoot or even see deer like this. I like to call these guys deer farmers not deer hunters, cringe when I hear about history with this deer and hit list and having to shoot certain bucks, lots of ego for such little skill.
