I always admired your passion for how the radio is SUPPOSED to work stock, versus what people did to it. My Cobra 2000 GTL isn't stock and I just had an alignment done. It has extra frequencies added. Now...I wish it was just stock! Thanks allot Mike! lol!
I have the 2000 gtl bought as a working radio and I don't think it has had anything major work done to it. no extra channel or anything that he was suppose to do to it. took it back to who i bought it from and he did nothing to it after 3 weeks. .turn the radio off and the radio lights stay on has no receive light the other lights are weak except the am light and he was suppose to have done a lot of work on it but I don't see it. any help would be greatly appreciated. He got his money from me and left me hanging. I just want it to work as it should it does send and receive bit again the light stay on when the power is off and no receive light and other small issues. Also any way to get the cig smoke smell out of it? He was also suppose to put variable on it but who knows.
Those old Expo kits were good, I have installed a few of them back when I was into CB radios. I always made the wires as short as possible and used hot glue on the wires to keep them from moving. They were not perfect, but they worked good for the technology back then.
So what method would be the best way to get an old Cobra 138A 23 channel rig up to channel 38? I know a Siltronix 90 will do it but that is also another can of old electronic worms.
Other than using a external VFO the only other way to add other channels is to either add crystals and a switch or to swap out one or two existing crystals for others that would put you on the channels you want. Only problem is that since ICM went out of business there really aren't any crystal manufacturers that cut custom crystals at a reasonable price. Most are over $100.

Is there more than one version of the Cobra 2000 as far as who manufactured them and which one is the best ?
Mike, off topic but could you please explain modulation levels? Part of a realignment process requires, say, a 30% modulation level but 30% of what?

Most cb shops that I've encountered over the years are nothing more then signal generator watt meter golden screwdriver hack shops
Wondering if you have done an alignment video start to finish?
My cobra 2000 will not receive or transmit on channels 1and 2 but works on all other channels I don't understand it ???? Any help or advice ????
