22:44 - what you are missing is that it is *_George Washington_* doing the asking this time: the General himself. Secretary to anyone else has little appeal; Right Hand Man to THIS guy- the one next to whom, even King George III acknowledges, all others “look small- is an opportunity not to be missed. Even if Alex _would_ still rather fight, not write.
I said this in another comment but I'll say it again: this is kind of where it shows that we're not really taught about the American War of Independence at school in the UK beyond a few mentions when discussing the wars with France and Spain that were happening at roughly the same time. I always just assumed that, despite Washington later becoming...well, *Washington* , during 'Right Hand Man' through to 'Yorktown', he wasn't necessarily "George Washington, future President" but just one general of several in the American army and that the others mentioned during 'Right Hand Man' that Alexander had already rejected were of equal rank/stature to him. Someone else commented that he was a bigger deal than that even at this point in time so I do get it now. It just always struck me (as a non-American who didn't really know an awful lot about this whole thing) as being very odd to jump straight from "to be their secretary, I don't think so" to "I am not throwing away my shot! _yoinks quill_ ".
Ahhhh!! You are so adorbs and I'm loving this reaction, but you performed the cardinal sin of separating "Helpless" and "Satisfied". These songs have to be watched back to back!!
To be fair, the only break I actually took while I was watching the show was during the interval. 'Helpless' just seemed like the best place to split the Act 1 reaction when I was editing since it was pretty much exactly halfway through. Long story short, always blame the copyright gremlins.
@@stagerat understood. Copyright Gremlins, be cursed, lol! Satisfied is the exact choreo as Helpless, but backwards. I always love watching people's reaction to that.. have you posted the second part? I was looking for it. Thanks for what you do!!
Yep, part 2 is up! The algorithm's not being kind to it though; just search my name or "Reactions: Hamilton Act 1 (part 2)" on here and it should come up. And no need to thank me; I love making videos, especially reactions!
I also made a playlist that should be available on my page if you're still having trouble finding the video, and both parts of Act 2 should be available in a couple of days.
Re: King George's walk, the original costume crown was incredibly heavy they say and that is how he had to walk to stay balanced 😂 And it is one thing to be the secretary to some regimental commander, it's another to be the secretary to the commander in chief
I kind of suspected the costume might have had something to do with that walk! It must be difficult wearing that crown, the wig *plus* the robe (even if the robe is only for that one song). The things actors go through for their art, huh... 😂 Re: the secretary thing, honestly this is where it starts showing that we were barely taught the American War of Independence at my school (there were a lot of other things and various other wars going on in the late 1700s that ultimately had more of an impact on Britain so...what happened in America kind of gets a footnote of "there was a war, they brought in France, we cut our losses and ran" in history lessons for us) since I just assumed the other names mentioned by Washington in that scene were of equal rank to himself. But if Washington was the commander in chief, I can see why that might be enough to get Hamilton to agree to it. It just always struck me as being very odd to jump straight from "to be their secretary, I don't think so" to "I am not throwing away my shot! _yoinks quill_ ", but your explanation makes sense...
@@stagerat I loved your reactions! I enjoyed so much watching both parts. So I'll be waiting for act 2. I don't know if I understood well something you write in the video. But I think is that you approve the records (bootlegs or proshot) of the plays, because this not influence in people going to watch the plays live. And if that's it what you was saying, I'm absolutely agree, in fact, I'm from Chile, and I'm planning my trip to NYC, and my principal reason is to watch Hamilton live.
I don't exactly approve of bootlegs (since it *is* illegal and distracting for the actors if they notice someone filming), but I do definitely approve of proshots (though I know how expensive they are to produce so I can understand why there aren't more of them). I just don't think the argument some people in the theatre community make of "proshots and bootlegs are bad because they will stop people from going to see shows live if they can just watch it at home" is a good argument at all. If anything, in my experience, being able to access a show in some form (proshots/bootlegs/cast recordings) actually makes people more interested in seeing that show live, especially if they don't live in New York or London or have the option of going to see a show whenever they want. To me, it's like how people who will go to see a band play live in concert are likely mostly people who have already listened to that band's albums.
@@stagerat YES! that's it. I wished to explained better, but I need to study more english hahaha. We need more proshots. Actually, I didn't watch any bootlegs because I believe that are going to kill the magic (because the quality of the videos and audio). Absolutely agree with all that you write, is like the video reactions, that sometimes are blocked, but I think video reactions are like free publicity.
Agreed! You have no idea how annoying it's been trying to upload this reaction with Disney instantly claiming all the videos for copyright reasons as soon as I upload them and blocking them...
I also prefer the pro-shot "everybody". 😊 I usually prefer the first version of music that I hear and I watched this before listening to the cast recording. I think it sounds more interactive than the sterilized studio recordings. Laurens and Hamilton wrote some very suggestive letters leading to many historians believing that they had a more than platonic relationship. Ramos and Miranda decided to play it up subtly. 😉
Mhm, "subtly"... 😉 That's interesting about the letters though. I'm not really one for speculating on the sexualities of historical figures, but it very much did seem like Anthony was playing Laurens as...not-so-platonically interested in Hamilton so it's nice to know I'm not just wildly off-base and reading things into it that weren't there. And I am glad I'm not the only one who prefers this "everybody" to the one on the cast recording (even if it's just because you heard this version first). The version on the OBCR isn't *bad* but this "I'll kill anyone who doesn't join in" take on it fits much more with George III's character than the overly happy pantomime-style "join in, boys and girls" way he says it in the OBCR.
Never apologize for being a hipster... P.S. if you haven't already, you have to watch/react to 21 Chump Street. It's another Lin masterpiece, based on a true story, starring Lin, Anthony and several actors who went on to have Broadway careers ("Wicked", "Be More Chill" etc.). They did it while they were in the process of workshopping Hamilton, I believe.. P.P.S. "We do not deserve Jonathan Groff" 🤣🤣🤣.. but you got him, drool and all. Who ever thought someone could make you love the Mad King?? P.P.P.S. re: the girl getting her neck snapped at the end of "You'll Be Back" google "Hamilton the bullet" and it will make more sense. I've lost track of how many P's I'm up to, but just wanted to let you know that your reaction to Hamilton's dance moves in "Helpless " is literally everyone's reaction.. in the world..
Never apologise for having so many "P.S."s... 😉 I've heard of 21 Chump Street but I've never listened to it/watched it. If there's a proshot of it, I'll definitely react to it! P.S. Thanks for the info on "the Bullet"! (I still didn't know about it when I watched Act 2 so you're probably gonna see more of me not understanding it/accidentally alluding to it there as well...). If it was really directed/choreographed with that amount of detail, then Thomas Kail and Andy Blankenbuelah deserve even more praise than I already gave them!
@@stagerat ❤️❤️ never again will I apologize for my p.s.'s, lol. Lol, I don't know what a ProShot is, lmao, but you can look up 21 Chump Street on TH-cam. It's only about 20 minutes long. I forgive you in advance for your confusion about the bullet in act 2, lol.. there are so many little details that are insane -- and then on top of that, you add amazing lyrics, performances, choreo.. the list goes on.. P.S./edit - I was just rereading your comment to me and was laughing to myself about how we spell "apologise/apologize" differently. I literally had to trick my auto correction into letting me spell it your way. It wanted me to say "apologies". I was like, "no, phone, I'm trying to become fluent in UK over here!!"
"Proshot" just means it's been filmed professionally, like Hamilton was. I don't really want to react to bootlegs (where it's just random audience members secretly filming the show) for a variety of reasons, but according to a friend who searched for 21 Chump Street, it looks like what's on youtube is a proshot after all. So I probably will react to it at some point (and I won't have to fight the copyright so hard, which is a plus!) P.S. @@stagerat yes, it was shot at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), which I used to live down the block from, as part of a series. There are two versions.
