Until you see one on the ground, the size of this heli is hard to comprehend. Sikorsky sold the FAA cert on this airframe to Erickson Helicopters years ago, so not really a “Sikorsky” anymore. Erickson actually makes new airframes too.
Why they use dark color for paint? Its like a camouflage. Almost all firefighting planes use highly visible red/orange/yellow for prevent air collision or even for easier finding wreck in case of accident.

in Italy, the state forestry corps has green as its color. this color belongs to them, and cannot be changed at will.
Now they have been taken by the Fire Department (Vigili del Fuoco) and they are Red and White....slighltly better.
