I'm the guy that bought the Fazer 😀. It's a great bike and I'm really happy with it. Matt was a total gentleman to deal with. He even delivered the bike to me!! (Only across Bristol, but super generous!). I was already a fan of his videos, but am now a subscriber and recommend him to others. He's one of the good guys! 👍🏍
Matt , I’ve been where you are , have been plagued by that feeling. I used to give myself a good talking to and pull myself together and become confident in what I wanted to achieve. Might see you around and about in Bristol .
I think that's the only way to do it. Talk to yourself and then do it! There's a few Bristol guys following the channel would be good to meet up at some point.
The other chappies idea of having a raised part in the path was genious. My bike’s stored away for the winter. I turn a wrench on it every other weekend and I have to say, I don’t much mind the not riding because let’s be honest, no one likes the rainy rides in the dark at about freezing. Or the snow at below freezing in these parts. Have I ordered the wrong parts? More than I care to admit. But as it’s winter regardless….I mean it’s not like any riding was to be had anyway. And in regards to success…mate, success is having children that love you. Eventually grandkids who want to listen to your stories. Everything else is just a tool to help that, to help them. You’re doing grand in all of these ways, so your golden. Do I get the imposter syndrome? Less and less. Mainly I think because as I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten better at just stepping away from bad situations. No, I don’t need to put out that fire, I don’t need to save that ship. I’ll do my bit and then I’ll leave and do what I actually want to do and care about. I’ve stopped caring what other people think I guess (this is why I own a Vstrom 😂).
Thanks mate, appreciate that. Totally agree with you about measuring success, it does change over the years - the important stuff takes it's rightful place. There's nothing wrong with a Vstrom!
I relate a lot to this Impostor Syndrome thing, and I thank you for sharing your experience! I wish I could tell you 'do this' or 'don’t do that,' but unfortunately, most of the time, it leads me more to procrastination than to fighting back. I wish you the best of luck with your new job and any other projects you have in mind.
Most people in adult life are just winging it Matt. Some are just better at hiding it than others. It's all about self-confidence. Best of luck in your new role mate 👍👍
Great video Matt and it’s strange how similar we are, both work wise and buying that wrong size bars, I bought bars for my bonneville which were too big and had to purchase another one 😅.
Alternative option - leave the wall as is..... But lay something like a scaffold plank in just the central portion or similar on raised plinths the full length of the alleyway, with just enough height to take the bars above wall height !!
@@thebristolthunderbird It doesn’t go that far, but it’s refreshing. 😅 Just out of curiosity, I had that same handlebar on my TB Sport for a few years, and, honestly, it’s very comfortable. Eventually, I switched back to clip-ons… just because… priorities, you know 😎
Love those old Goldwings, they make really nice beefy cafe racers and sound great with the flat six. I've got one of their dummy fuel tanks, because the fuel goes under the seat I think and the 'tank' is a storage compartment, long pre-dating the NC range. My previous mechanics were just throwing it away in their scrap pile and were good enough to let me take it, and I'm eventually going to put a backing board on it and some hooks, and it'll be wall mounted in my garage, when I get a garage, to hold keys or something.
The early design ideas for the goldwing were amazing. They even had a Kickstarter if the electric start failed! Direct access to the air filter and radiator filler as well. Such a simple and effective design. I feel like I need one in my life.
I felt like joining in with Liliane on her dance routine when I heard the Fazer has at long last gone... now we can get into some proper bikeing content! I don't like blue (other than Levis), and I certanly don't like Yamahas, but we can't all have the same tastes, otherwise we'd all drive white Opels, have a black Honda in the garage and live in a house all with the same coloured front doors! You spoke of having a new job last year, a company up north somewhere if I remember correctly..., have you changed again? Just sat down with a cuppa, with time to spare while waiting for the football to start, so i'm watching this video, a little nearer to it's release.., yuppee! Have a good week.
Haha. It was actually my son's girlfriend who noticed I was filming and tried to sabotage it. It's actually worked out quite well. New job is local, Bristol based firm but employees from all over the world just now. Fun sector of aerospace. Looking forward to saying a bit more about it soon.
No, but my son Joshua has worked there. He did part time through his uni course and then full time for about a year after that. This is a new start up which I'll be able to talk more about soon. Really exciting and new for me.
Those "wrong" bars, in that size, will fit any Sportster, so keep 'em. You might be glad, when suddenly, somewhere in the gloomy distance,Thundy has a Harley to share his cosy shed with!
Good luck with the new job. Don't worry if you can't exchange the bars, you could still fit them. Am I right in thinking that on the Thunderbird, you have individual bar risers bolted through the top yoke? If so, you could just change the risers for ones that accept one inch bars. That would also give you the opportunity to fine-tune the bar height to exactly where you want it. Just make sure you get one inch diameter risers, not the more common 1⅛ inch (28mm) ones. Otherwise, you'll be back to square one!
That's true. Only issue is the rest of the kit, throttle, brakes etc, all designed for the 7/8ths. Think I'll keep hold of them for future bikes. Apparently they got Sportsters! Another reason to get one I guess.
Yeah imposter syndrome is real. I took over as Aerospace Quality Manager last year, took a while to adjust. I'm going to San Diego to join with the AESQ next week, Imposter Syndrome all over again 😊
I'm pretty sure it's just an unwelcome companion we take around with us everywhere. It just needs to be told what to do. Best of luck with the new role in San Diego mate!
Have you thought about a Dyna or Softail rather than a Sportster? Most folks tend to want something a little bigger and more powerful after a while than what a Sportster can offer.
I hear that from a lot of people, particularly people that have had a Harley or two. The Sportster has always been that bike I've loved for some reason, it's about as iconic a bike as you can get, and unique in terms of looks. I guess once you're down the rabbit hole though there's no coming back!
@@thebristolthunderbird I had three Sportsters, Iron 883 (too tall and top heavy for me), Superlow 883 (easy to ride but lacking power) and a 48. 48 was the best by far but I got seduced by the then new Softail M8. Sold that now and have a Bonneville. The Iron is best if you are a little taller in my opinion. Cheers.
Imposter syndrome.... a certain qualification I hold in my trade, means everyone assumes I'm time served in something else closely associated. However, over the years I've picked up plenty of knowledge in this particular line of work and get a lot of recommendations. I've never claimed to be anything I'm not, and never lied to anyone. I even go to jobs and rectify work carried out by so called trained people, and regularly get jobs done that these people can't. Still feel like one day I'm going to be ' found out ' purely because I've learned from experience rather than been trained at college or something. Is that imposter syndrome? I'll be booking my lasagne soon mate 😂 How's the running going?
Haha, that lasagne needs to happen. Imposter syndrome is exactly that I think. Years ago experience was an apprenticeship, these days a piece of paper seems to be the valued thing (might not be right in every case). I like learning through doing, that's my preferred method every time.

Mate, that's very kind. Glad the Fazer has a good home. I'll be in touch if I get an off-road machine. That does seem like a lot of fun.
Funny dance routine in your opening sequence 😂

I just need to be as thorough with the spec reading as I am with my wiring diagrams. Might help...

Not a bad idea! Cheers mate.
To be fair, that’s a pretty brilliant solution to this problem. Caveman me would just have knocked the wall down.
@02:00 Some one is dancing to Fame in the background. i think 😅😂🤣

Easier to build a ramp or elevation for the short distance until bars fit?
Think that's a better idea. Got the correct bars in the post now.

Where you’re struggling with the wall and width.
How about a small wooden ramp to raise the height of the bike and bars where you need it???
That has been suggested and it's a great idea. Might still need it even though I've shortened the bars a little!
I have this issue with my gaff, bloody path is so narrow.
It's either the wall coming down or the house...
@thebristolthunderbird 😜 I have to stick to sports tourers, they fit!
