The problem is the USMNT players haven’t got real pressure from the media or the fans. That is a matter of football culture in the country, people don’t go crazy and the players don’t feel the pressure.

T 21199 That's a good thing for countries in tournaments though, over here in England our players are overly-hyped so much that it gets to our players heads and they end up not performing in the tournaments, also the English media think our players are good enough to reach semi-finals in the World Cup when we clearly aren't and the players get so much stick for failing to over achieve. Yes That does mean we should still beat Icleand, but if you watch the game again our players were shitting themselves when they were 2--1 down early and played the rest of the game like amateurs. Pressure from Media works both ways.

In Europe we play with the snow, with the fog and on a wet pitch fairly often, particularly in smaller countries which cannot afford state of the art stadiums.....not every team plays at the Camp Nou.
Plus T&T were playing on a wet pitch too, so WTF you are complaining about.

Look at Belgium for example, they beat Bosnia who is ranked 36th on a pitch that was just as bad, if not worse than the one in Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad had absolutely everything to play for, pride, dignity as you said, but also to finally pay back the US after 1989, when they defeated Trinidad to go to the 1990 World Cup (a loss or a draw to Trinidad would have seen Trinidad qualify instead). While Trinidad had absolutely no chance to go, they wanted to finally get payback.

I remember back in Nov 19, 1989, I was 8 yrs old, when Trinidad & Tobago needed just 1 point to qualify for World Cup 90...when Paul Caligiuri scored a long shot goal that got USA a spot to the Finals in Italy and that had the entire nation of T&T, in rivers of tears. 28 years later, Alvin Jones scored that similar long beautiful shot for Trinidad & Tobago, not just to win 2-1 against USA but to eliminate the Power House of Red Stripes & Blue Stars. I was so glad to see this match live that night to support my country because this sweet revenge was the sweetest victory of all for the SOCA Warriors, and this ghost was finally put to rest.

I know T&T didn't qualify for the World Cup but stopping the team that prevented us from qualifying the World Cup in 1989 was seen as somewhat of a victory. I know it was small consolation, but our team didn't have the ability to play sustained high level, heck we didn't have the ability to even play good half the time but we had the ability to play a good game every so often and we did it here against a US team that although individually gifted were not really the strongest cohesive team.
We have regressed so much that we don't even have a team that could even dream of pulling off an upset like this now. It's so sad looking back at 2006 we had an opportunity to change the sport forever in a positive way, by having a professional approach so our team could have join the ranks of Mexico, USA, Costa Rica that regular World Cup berths. Unfortunately we have just crashed out of contention in every way in this sport.

If the USMNT made it to the World Cup, you know that they could get blown apart from European countries like Spain and Germany. So, it would be too hard for the USMNT to actually make some good wins in the World Cup. Anyways, the US should have really won that match to avoid becoming a laughingstock. I don't even know if the US can make a good comeback after that horrible match in 2022 World Cup Qualifyers.

      >I don't even know if the US can make a good comeback after that horrible match in 2022 World Cup Qualifyers.
Are you serious? This the USA we're talking about. This is the fucking country that put man on the moon and has (had) a space program that every country wanted. This is a country that actually did decent in the 90s for WC qualifying eve when its professional league was but an infant. This is the country that after WWII formed into a military powerhouse. This is the country that after 9/11 picked itself up despite all the anti-Americanism it has dealt with with since the country's formation. This is the country that has the most unique and diversified higher education system that makes all the other countries with universities look like factories.
You don't even know if the US can comeback after the loss at T&T? Then you don't know the spirit of Americans. I'll say it now: the US will put on a successful campaign for 2022 WC. Not only will they qualify but they'll advance to the knockout stage and go as far the quarter-finals. All this despite the lack of soccer culture within the country.

World Cup 2014( without pulisic by the way!) got out of a group with the World Cup winning team(Germany), Portugal who have one of the best players in the world( Ronaldo ) and Ghana. We beat Ghana and tied Portugal ( but we should have won if not for a last minute goal out of nowhere) and made it to the round of sixteen. This is not the end of the us national team. Italy didn’t make it either!

I couldn't watch the whole video. The moment I heard Bruce Arena say that he'd like to see a european team come over and play in concacaf. Seriously? The only reason it's a competitive area is because everybody is in a sub-par level. Venezuela who finished last in Conmebol, would qualify every world cup here in concacaf, maybe not always as first because Mexico and Costa Rica (and even USA, though not recently) have their good moments.
They're not my first team to root for, but I'm pretty upset that the US isn't going to the world cup.
