Was doing the switch from godaddy to gmail workspace, and followed the guided steps by gmail, so I have already ACTIVATED the gmail and found the old emails were not appeared in Gmail, I was soooo frustrated, until I found your video teaching on migrating the old emails, I was hoping it would work for me, but still worried as you kept reminding "do not activate yet".....but well, I still tried your steps and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all emails are now shown in Gmail! and works well with sending/receiving at Gmail too! thank you so much!!!

Helpful. Nov 2024 a few things have changed - for instance when I started a new Google Workspace account, it was smart enough to take me straight into the domain verification step with some new graphics, so I didn't have to manually go there like she did in the demo

Yes, for this you have to do some digging. That means someone has used the email previously. You're going to have to figure out he password, log in, delete the account, and then you're able to create a new one. I've helped a few clients with this issue.
Quick question (for anyone who reads this also)... Where is the setting to delete emails from our mail server once we delete them in the Google Workspace account? NEVERMIND: I quickly realized that the emails no longer go to the old account because they're routed through Google now.

It's a Go Daddy Workspace email. It is supposed to migrate to office 365 but hasn't done that yet and I want to move it to Google Workspace before it migrates to office 365. For this, it's a little more complicated. You would have to remove your domain from Google, Place it back on Microsoft and then do the migration process.
Logically yes, I never would have thought of not to "Activate Gmail". If you activate Gmail, Data Migration will be confused because of an active account on Google Workspace

@@landonneubs unfortunately there was no manual work around for me. I had to call godaddy to email support to have them edit settings to allow for me to select org management. I didn't know how to use the ms coder app (apologies I have forgotten the name of it) to edit the settings myself.

Hi, I would recommend keeping your domain on GoDaddy but linking your GoDaddy domain to your Squarespace account. With Go Daddy, you are able to link your domain to Wix, Sqaurespace, Shopify etc. By linking it, it will not mess up your email process.

I tried to follow these directions today, only to realize that Microsoft has disabled Application Impersonation in the roles. I didn't see the error, and spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't migrate the email. I had to switch everything back to Office 365. Does anyone know the fix now that Application Impersonation doesn't work?
I spent hours on that issue today as well. I had to contact GoDaddy via phone in order to enable/save the ApplicationImpersonation permission. Now I'm able to migrate the email and calendar.
@@jithomason GoDaddy helped you with that? They told me I had to call Google. I ended up having GoDaddy point the DNS back to their server so I had email again.
@@wayneyoung6094 Yes, I called GoDaddy multiple times. Each representative gave me a different answer. Finally, on my third call, I got someone who initiated the request. About an hour later, I was able to migrate everything. I never called Google because I saw the error message pointed back to the ApplicationImpersonation issue on the GoDaddy side.

I followed your steps and when I did the migration for both email accounts under the same domain, it tells me there is an exchange impersonation error. Is there something I am not doing in the admin section. Both emails work, I tested them through email, and the test emails are going to the new emails set up on the google workplace and not going to the outlook email

A couple more tips that I would recommend is depending on the size of the mailboxes start the move after business hours on Friday and in the Exchange side increase the EWS throttle so the transfer goes faster. In her video she only did a very small amount of data most of the times you’re working with many GBs of data so small changes can make huge performance enhancement. Good luck.

@@JS-tq3qs I'm getting the same issue. I actually went through the process and didn't realize it didn't save until I got an Impersonation Error during migration. How were you able to manually do this?
@@landonneubs unfortunately there was no manual work around for me. I had to call godaddy to email support to have them edit settings to allow for me to select org management. I didn't know how to use the ms coder app (apologies I have forgotten the name of it) to edit the settings myself.
Did godaddy help you with this setting? I have the same issue but godaddy told me that they cannot help me update the setting@@JS-tq3qs

After I migrate this email. Say for example I want to migrate the domain itself from Godaddy to square space because I don't want to run WordPress. Will this later transfer of the domain from godaddy and WordPress hosting interrupt this mail domain transfer? Or does this also move the actual domain from godaddy too?
Hi, I would recommend keeping your domain on GoDaddy but linking your GoDaddy domain to your Squarespace account. With Go Daddy, you are able to link your domain to Wix, Sqaurespace, Shopify etc. By linking it, it will not mess up your email process.

I tried to follow these directions today, only to realize that Microsoft has disabled Application Impersonation in the roles. I didn't see the error, and spent hours trying to figure out why I couldn't migrate the email. I had to switch everything back to Office 365. Does anyone know the fix now that Application Impersonation doesn't work?
I spent hours on that issue today as well. I had to contact GoDaddy via phone in order to enable/save the ApplicationImpersonation permission. Now I'm able to migrate the email and calendar.
@@jithomason GoDaddy helped you with that? They told me I had to call Google. I ended up having GoDaddy point the DNS back to their server so I had email again.
@@wayneyoung6094 Yes, I called GoDaddy multiple times. Each representative gave me a different answer. Finally, on my third call, I got someone who initiated the request. About an hour later, I was able to migrate everything. I never called Google because I saw the error message pointed back to the ApplicationImpersonation issue on the GoDaddy side.
Thanks so much for this helpful video! I'm currently using GoDaddy's webmail itself (not via Microsoft), is the process the same for the migration? I attempted to follow the same steps but my percentage for the status of migration has been 0% for a few hours.
Mine took several hours to process and even timed out at one time. Hope it eventually worked for you.
I followed your steps and when I did the migration for both email accounts under the same domain, it tells me there is an exchange impersonation error. Is there something I am not doing in the admin section. Both emails work, I tested them through email, and the test emails are going to the new emails set up on the google workplace and not going to the outlook email

I've already made it to the data migration process in Workspace before I found out the impersonation didn't save so I'm hoping there's a way to salvage this. Thanks

A couple more tips that I would recommend is depending on the size of the mailboxes start the move after business hours on Friday and in the Exchange side increase the EWS throttle so the transfer goes faster. In her video she only did a very small amount of data most of the times you’re working with many GBs of data so small changes can make huge performance enhancement. Good luck.

(I'm helping someone set up their site and migrate from Exchange to Google Workspace), but when I run the testing tool, it says no email server is connected...which is odd because we are receiving email and sending just fine. I added DKIM today and will (maybe?) add DMARC in a few days. If you have an ideas as to why that happened, lmk!
