We have custom Brazilian Cherry wood cabinets in our kitchen but it works with what we have, and it’s got enough light highlights in the wood to catch the light. Living in New England makes it work too. Florida and other warm places look better with light woodwork.
Agree about the kitchen. I don't like dark cabinets. Otherwise, what a lovely home! The selling point for me are all the animals you get to see. So lucky.
I planted Scarlet runner beans up strings in one place to block off the neighbors. That was a "those people are nuts" thing though. Hard to do when you are not there to water them though.
The house overall looks awesome :) my favourite part was the swamp view when near the pool. I just love the idea of being able to look outside at just grass and trees, maybe a few animals :) feels very earthy, relaxing, even therapeutic. Awesome :)
Joel I enjoyed the tour,you gave of the house your very fortunate to have such a nice to stay,my parents rented houses in Florida for several years during the winter months, we stayed in several types of houses ,your parents house is quite nice ,I wish people would have more respect for other people's property but that's the price you pay for renting it out to people who you don't know. Thanks for the tour! It is a lovely home. People really don't understand how tall the sand cranes are! They have become very accustomed to having people around. They walk slowly, sometimes so slowly you think they are statues! My sister and I were driving to Florida one time, stopped in some tiny place off I-95. The sand cranes were in the parking lot, walking up to the store window and tapping the glass!! Amazing! I have one of the electronic locks, too. I LOVE it!

These people not only come over but come to your back door. Oh wait! It gets better. One morning, I didn't hear them at the back door while I was rushing around cooking breakfast in my bra and panties... so. And omg! This still gets to me, they came to my kitchen window!!!!!!! And there's more.. . Similarly dressed, doing laundry at night time. The washer is on the enclosed back porch, im loading the washer. And a lady just walks in!!!! JUST WALKS IN!!!!!

When it is time for your parents to replace the screens in the pool enclosure they can choose to go half privacy screens for the sides and then just the same type of screen as the type you have in the back view now.
Our Sandhill Cranes are also called Storm Cranes. They are massive and beautiful. Also that is the upper middle class of Florida. The rest of Florida is NOTHING like that.
I do the same thing! I have a fence, but the houses are close together, and the porches are raised. I also plant things, because I hated seeing neighbors!
You should grow those tall spruce trees/bush things on the side. My parents bought some tiny like one foot saplings in a pot, planted them, and they grew almost two stories tall within a few years, with lots of privacy.
We LOVE living here in Florida. We are originally from Ohio along Lake Erie. We used to get lake effect snow storms/blizzards in the winters. Ohio is very beautiful but the winters were a bit too cold and too long for me. I need the sun and warmth :) Your house is beautiful.

Have you had a chance to explore other areas of the State? I would be a great video series to show just how diverse the landscape and communities are.
Joel ... In General how do American homes and British homes differ from one another. Of course you would know that Southern Homes as are found in Florida are much different from homes found up here in Ohio. Here we tend to use a lot of wood for building. Also, our homes have very powerful heating systems. Generally what's it like in an English home?

I have seen lots of wildlife while sitting in my pool: tortoises, rabbits, lizards, snakes, squirrels, snowy egrets, vultures, hawks, bald eagles, sand cranes, etc. I love it. The sand cranes are so funny, they generally walk around slowly and quietly looking at things, but if they get riled up they make a racket! I do not live near water though, so I don't have to worry about alligators!
I live in Orlando, 10 minutes from Disney in a vacation home. I love my home here, except for the privacy problems around the pool. I’ve been living here several years and enjoy the gated community and security. And since I live here year round, I always have new neighbors that only stay a week or two. I know the area you live in and it’s quite lovely like mine. I just hate the heat and humidity in the summer. I enjoy your channel 👍😊!!

It's a good holiday home...yes houses are not always private ,..as built close together.
Your bed looked like what we call a king size bed which is wider than a queen. Very nice.

Joel, you could put up something like a curtain and just close it when you’re by the pool and open it when you’re inside.
