It's not an ink that I would use, but I LOVE your testing proceedure. So thorough and intriguing. Kudos. Thank you so much for your efforts and enthusiasm. That blue in the Chromatography was a complete surprise.
Great review. I recently purchased a sample vial of Golden Sands, along with another nice shimmer in a similar palette, DeAtramentis Amber Yellow Copper. I haven't used shimmer inks in fountain pens (I prefer the fine-medium range), but they are perfect for my Kakimori dip nib, especially given its range of line widths. I use the shimmer inks mainly for artwork. Clear nail polish topcoat helps seal and protect the colors and the shimmer, especially when dealing with smaller pieces. I place larger pieces behind sheets of acetate.
I like Diamine inks. I haven't gotten to try shimmer inks as I use fine or extra fine nibs and do not want to clog the nib amd feed. Being left handed, i have to look for inks that dry fast. Shimmer ink seems to dry slowly. Perhaps I am mistaken. I have 4 years before my wife and I have our Golden Anniversary. Maybe I will get this ink and put it aside 😉. I just bought my first Pen Gear notebook. I will have to look for your 45¢ notebook, lol. Nice review, James.
Thanks! I was pretty far into the hobby before I tried the, assuming they would clog badly. The first I tried did, but I think my problem was pen choice more than the ink itself.
This is one of my favorite shimmering inks, maybe only rivaled by Herbin's Emerald of Chivor. I used it to write holiday cards one year because it looks like gilding on the page. Diamine shimmering inks are very well-behaved and I generally use them in my fine TWSBI Eco without any problem. The Eco is nice because you can easily see if the shimmer bits have settled. It takes a whole lot of flushing to get the feed clean if you want to change inks, though. But I generally don't worry about a little bit of stray sparkle. I wouldn't want to take away from any possible commission James gets from his link, but I will say that, for my family, the best deal on Diamine is through Cult Pens. They're based in England and even with the exchange rates and whatever fees the cost for Diamine works out to about half as much as anybody in the US. We put together a big order (easy with 3 fountain pen enthusiasts in one family) for their yearly Inktober sale to get free shipping, too.
Great video. It might be interesting, if you haven't done it already, to do a video about the difference between the old and new Tomoe River paper. That is something I am very confused about.
I haven’t made one, but I’ll put that on my list to do soon. Lately I’ve been doing them with strips I cut from Daiso store calligraphy paper. In the earlier reviews I used strips from coffee filters. I prefer the former, but both work great.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. 👍🏼
The little bit of blue makes sense because it keeps it from shading into reddish, or copperish.
A lovely ink! Thanks for reviewing this one. I also like Sparking Shadows and Coco Shimmer.

Good tip on preserving the shimmer. 👍🏼
I love this ink !!

@@JG3Reviews I may have to break down and get a medium or broad nib. I wonder how these inks would work with a fude nibs.

Beautiful ink.
Appreciate the video. Do you have a video on how to do chromatography. Where do you get the strips

I love my rainbow V200
Diamine Goldstar shimmer is another.
