    Hey Corey, I usually don't comment on vids, but I wanted to let you know that due in part to your inspiration I've just gotten hired as an arborist trainee with a solid tree company and can't wait for the HR paperwork to get sorted and the work to begin. I'm switching careers from wildlife biology/parks service work and haven't felt this excited to start a job in some time. It might not be your intention when you make these videos, but thanks for the part you played in my own life, Human!

    Your truly unbiased and blatantly honest saw reviews are awesome. Too many guys are brand loyal (some paid to be some just stubborn) and it's hard to get a straight up review.
    I see you tested an old echo 300t, and this both stock and opened up. And you tested a 540t husky. I'll agree that the 300t is a choked up turd. Dead reliable, and will run for decades, but that's where their endearing qualities end. My buddy has an echo 330t that I've ran both stock and muffler modded and I must say it impressed me, knowing what it is.
    I'd love to see you review the echo 355t. It's supposedly quite a bit hotter than the 330t, and they are a damn good price point saw. Forums seem to say they run right with a 200t/201t once the muffler is opened up on them, but they actually seem to run admirably stock supposedly. I'd love your input.

I took a couple trees down recently but the tree I took down today I was able to fall in a position to drop it on a beer can. Only education I truly have in tree cutting is small experience and then watching your videos. I have learned a great deal from you and wanted to say thank you. You will probably need something to deflect exhaust gases away from the side cover, I would expect the side cover to get melted pretty quick otherwise. I opened up the deflector a bit on one of mine and it started melting the side cover, so changed it back. Great saws though.

      Also, you don't need to disassemble it nearly that much to access the muffler.
      Just remove the bar and the plastic that covers it,
      then the two screws under there that hold the plastic muffler cover, pop it off and you're there.

    hey man I really appreciate your videos, you have taught me a lot and kept me safe as I got into tree climbing so thank you! my question is, I started my little side tree removal business with an ms 261 with a 20" bar then I got a used 180 for cheap (future ground guy limbing saw) to use climbing until I proved to myself I had earned the 201t. so now I have all three and the biggest removal I have done is a couple 36" trees. I want your opinion as to what saw you would get as your big saw if you were only going to get one more saw, what size would you get. I live in Virginia, and I have come a cross a couple potential jobs in the future with huge trunks but honestly I don't think it would be that often that I would be using a big saw.

    I’m not gonna even pretend to know what a modification does for the saw. Maybe some nice human will explain it to me. It is such a cute little saw with good cutting power!
    Note: my hubby took down three trees today, I had on my list to take down. Well long story short, it didn’t go well and he landed two of them on my young pine trees in the memorial grove garden. So I gave some banged up baby pines... kinda bummed. But he was only trying to help me. 👍🏼❤️

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sorry for your pines =( Opening up the muffler reduces back pressure and allows more air to pulled into the cylinder, along with more fuel, means more power =)

    • @seth364
      @seth364 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jesus IsGod By modifying the muffler, he’s allowing more air to pass through the engine (at the cost of increased sound) and thereby increasing the amount of power the saw can output. From the factory most saws these days are weaker than they should be as air can’t escape the restrictive mufflers fast enough, but companies want their saws under certain decibel ratings if possible. It’s a trade off.
      Just remember what you need for any fire; fuel and air. The more air you can push through the more fuel you can push through, which is why on vehicles you have things like turbo’s and super chargers. (Boost via increased air pressure)
      There are other modifications that can be done on these saws, like a timing advance (getting your spark at the opportune time) and aftermarket bore kits etc, but that’s all a topic for another video.
      Hope this helps

    So a bigger muffler opening equals more power, without opening up the exhaust port at all or also increasing the intake port diameter? I've heard some people say that 2 stroke engines make more power with a more restrictive exhaust but I dont know how true that is. Might do this to my echo string trimmer lol.

    Sucks about the air filter. I tell you whats BS to. In 2017 I bought a brand new Husqvarna 390XP. Ran a couple tanks through it, had the saw on the bench cleaning it up. Pulled filter and noticed a trace amount of dust in the throat of the carb. I was like WTF???!!!! Well Husky decided to have a plastic filter mount against a plastic filter base, no rubber or anything to create an air tight seal. So my fix is I keep a film of grease between the two. No other issues with dirt getting in but to think Husky did that on a $1,200 saw chaps my ass and what if I wouldnt have noticed it until 10 tanks in?? Could have scratches on my piston and cylinder. I have since then did a muffler mod and piston and cylinder looked perfect so I caught it in time but still. I love Husky but they dropped the ball there.

    • @brianmorrison9066
      @brianmorrison9066 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so. Mine ran poorly out of the box. Very cold blooded. It needed full choke for like 5 minutes and it would still die as soon as you touched the gas. Yes, the low speed was full rich against the limiter. Also, the powerband was very narrow. Throttle response also sucked. Quick throttle changes produced a bog. Way, way too lean. I ran it for 3 min. Then pulled the limiters, muffler screen and opened up the muffler maybe 20% more. Idk if this saw has a cat. If so, it's still in there. After opening the mixture screws almost a full turn each, it's a new saw. Immediate power off idle. I'm blown away. It cuts like a 40cc. Also, run a air cooled 2 cycle oil at 30:1. Not 50:1.

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does require some back pressure but it will still have plenty of back pressure with that hole in it and will be able to generate more power with the higher flow exhaust and the carburetor tune to increase the fuel consumption. Overall this mod increases power, reduces fuel efficiency and increases exhaust emissions. The EPA has pretty strict standards that must be met for small engines so manufacturers engineer their saws and other products to meet emissions standards instead of for maximum performance. This is a pretty easy work around to help get the most power out of your equipment. Porting the exhaust along with this mod will really take a saws performance to a whole new level.

    • @rogerslawncare7260
      @rogerslawncare7260 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Internets I don’t think 2 stroke engine require any back pressure actually the reason a engine requires back pressure is to keep from scorching a valve/ valve seat. So I’m almost sure you don’t need any back pressure on this engine. Little further info, if your running a hot engine trying to get a lot of power out of it you try to cut down on back pressure therefore leading to fire blowing by the valves at that point what do you do? Because all dragsters blow fire out the exhaust right? This must mean almost or zero back pressure right? You have to run a stainless steel valve or a inconel type that will resist the heat better.

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're comparing apples and oranges here. I'm not a small engine mechanic but from everything I've read and personal experience an exhaust port and muffler mod will increase power and decrease back pressure. That decrease in back pressure is then compensated for by increasing the fuel in the carburetor. If someone else can do a better job explaining this please feel free. Like I said, small engines aren't my day job.

    • @6ohdangerranger514
      @6ohdangerranger514 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@theinternets7516 Shouldn't make a difference. Backpressure can be helpful but only when the pressure wave coming back is timed correctly, if it's constant pressure it's killing power

    • @LokitheSiberian
      @LokitheSiberian 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rogers’ Lawn Care small two strokes like this don't need any backpressure, but larger two strokes with tuned pipes or expansion chambers need to have carefully calculated sizes to properly achieve the sonic supercharging they get when they are "on the pipe". Basically you want to control the exhaust gas density and by extension the temperature with back pressure to correctly calculate the speed of the sonic wave, and derived from that you calculate the sizes of the expansion chamber. Too small of an outlet will be way too hot and you will melt pistons, but too big and the exhaust gases will cool too fast to be able to get the sound wave back to the exhaust port in time to cram the air fuel charge back into the combustion chamber.
