Seeing different performances of this transcription only enlarges my admiration for Horowitz and Volodos. Volodos has got to have one of the top 5 techniques in the history of piano playing.
I envy his skills, i truly do. But there's this rule: do not overplay a song. Do not ruin it by saturating it with too much decorations, fills, freestyles, etc.
@@JohanLGT it’s not demanding if the person actually LIKES it bro, this is simply your opinion, not a rule. it’s actually a very reasonable piece. Horowitz, who did this arrangement, is the biggest pianist this world has seen. He knows the rules more then anybody else
The guy is obviously neither Horowitz nor Volodos, but that's not a bad performance. I've heard a great deal worse butcheries of Horowitz's super-virtuoso arrangements. Only Volodos comes anywhere close to doing them justice.
Richard Tootill I agree with Arsov. The amazing thing about Volodos’ version is that he makes it sound easy. A real testament to Volodos’ technique and Horowitz ingenuity in transcription.
What a joke. It's not a butchery at all, it is superbly executed. The only problem is the audio quality leaves much to be desired. But the playing is excellent, and as for his facial expressions, this is just part of who he is as a performer. Volodos isn't and never was the only one to make faces when playing.

Alexander Arsov - I have to agree. As much as I admire and respect Gavrylyuk, Volodos' version of this just seems more fun and less hard work.
