What a stunning model! I do know that the Super Garratt was an idea that was thrown around, but I never thought I'd see a model of one! Great stuff!

Imagine it was built!!!! The scale model in itself has monstrous proportions. Real pain to load it to go run somewhere....

A beautiful gorgeous locomotive. I am partial to Garretts even though I am in the US. I sort of fancy a double K Mikado for the D&RGW that never was.
The exhaust beats are only 1/2 of what they need to be for each engine unit revolution of the wheels to be correct. It does sound good though.

    This is an absolute giant.
I guess the boiler also comes from the LGB Mallet model?
Because its diameter looks small compared to the GMAM boiler, and something with 8 cylinders to feed would need an even larger boiler than the GMAM, somewhere in the class GL ball park, considering the cylinders would be smaller in size than the GL cylinders.
I saw the GL in the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, and it dwarfs all standard gauge loco's out there.

An absolute unit! As if I wasn’t already jealous of Europe and Africa for having Garratts! ‘Course I’m American and I’m still partial to our massive Mallets but I just can’t stop thinking how big a Super Garrett would be in the American loading gauge!
Since such a big loco would have to be for freight, and that we don’t like twisting railway lines all that much, perhaps it would be a 2-10-10-2+2-10-10-2? Your thoughts?
Also, do you happen to know what main color of paint (or just color in general) was used on that GM AM Garratt? I’m doing some modeling myself and absolutely love the green on the boiler barrel!

Amazing models, the Mallet Garratt boiler to small?. I remember watching the huge 59 class Garratts of East Africa

The boiler is too small for 8 cylinders, even as a Mallet. It must be about the same boiler size as the GMAM to provide enough steam.

If it has 8 cylinders why does it sound like it has one?

We cut a box on the lasercutter and it just fits in the back of a Corsa Utility hehehe. Takes two guys to lift her. Not that heavy but you have to support all 4 traction sets.
