- Celebrations abound at the Chateau de Lalande as it's both Bastille Day in France, and we have the long-awaited Return of Marie!!! It's so wonderful to have her back. She ran straight into the old tables to start organising her floristry studio, and as the first delivery of flowers arrives tomorrow, we can expect to see magnificent floral creations gracing the chateau's rooms soon! Marie's arrival helped to soften the blow of Scotman's departure, but he's hoping to return next month. Meanwhile Selmar finished the new garden beds and Tomaz showed his hairdressing skills on willing guineapig, Oliver...

@@selmarduinofficial ~the point is , the wooden bed / boards are straight!!! It is only the top edges that are left natural ... I totally understand the pleasing aesthetic of standard sizes and geometrically perfect alignment ... what a job that was... yet this is taking it an edge too far!

I absolutely LOVE the more rustic natural look of the beds.I think once they are planted you will love them, leaves will enhance the lines. The dahlias will likely do wonderfully. I would be exceptionally proud of those roses.

LOVE SELMAR’S GARDEN BEDS. They are whimsical and creative. They are exactly what a flower garden in such a creative place needs. It would be absolute sacrilege to cut them straight! In fact, over time they all should be replaced to have a natural edge 😊 Art is about beauty and the unexpected ... nature is not straight lines. I too love symmetry and yet walking through that garden and glimpsing some unusually creative garden edgings in one corner would be a fitting homage to Selmar and in a hundred years would make the visitor reflect on the story behind those non-matching garden beds.

Stephanie, OMG dont make Selmar sad. His beds were the most gorgeous of the garden. It doesn't matter if they all match. They were the art-y masterpiece of the garden. I usually don't even do comments but Selmar looked so crushed. Please reconsider Stephanie. I think Isabelle liked them too.
Stephanie , l understand you loved your father and want to honnor him But you have done this in the chateau with all his beautiful paintings , BUT the garden is Isabella territory and hard work and this is the place where she should be honoured and Selmar put a bit of himself there, do not crush him, he was so proud of his work, l realy felt sorry for him. But l understand what you meant, l wish you made a video of remembrance of your Papa and show photos of him and all what he meant for you and what he said and taught you, and also what he plan in the chateau, just talk of the happy time with him. I know you spoke of him before but l wish you made a video just for him, it would be very interresting and l feel we would understand you better too. We love you dear Stephanie and it is so lovely to have sweet Marie again.

Stephanie already told him to redo the flower beds back in May or April because she did not like the way they were positioned. Isabel did not mind and told her: "You should have said it before." But Stephanie is a perfectionist.

I totally agree, but it's Stephanie's vision and that's why we're even able to watch this channel, therefore there *is* something wrong with the beds, because she doesn't like the. I can't stand yellow, but I love that Stephanie loves it, because that's what matters in her chateau.

The flower beds have been introduced to the Selmar effect. I think the live edge left on the wood like that will be a new trend in the gardening world. Bravo Selmar, they look amazing.

Your Flowers will not all exist in straight precise matching lines, but rather will grow and flow freely to follow their own creative expression.

We actually love the rustic feel of the new garden beds. Anyway, once the flowers/ plants grow they may cover or lessen the impact/ new look of the beds.
I love the planking on the garden beds with the live edge, it looks rustic and in the rows of beds with straight edges like a free spirit made them. They truly are a testament the Selmars free spirit

I feel that we must remember to not try to not be forceful or aggressive about our own preferences, when they differ from Stephanie’s, or those of anyone at LaLande.
She graciously asks us to vote on our choices between many things, and it’s fun to have an input. But when she makes a choice about something other, I think it’s fine for us to voice our differing preferences, but also to remember to respect her right to make her own choices about anything she chooses to do, at her home.
