The dance is beautiful. This version of Sayaw sa Bangko comes from the province of Negros Oriental. I just HATE when FilAms introduce things like SELFIE and DABBING to Maria Clara - type Philippine dances. It only shows how culturally disconnected many FilAms are to the Philippines.
I disagree, it's nice that they put a modern flair sometimes in the dance. They aren't here to do a sacred dance after all, they're here to entertain, make it more fun. Plus, atleast they try to connect to the culture. So many Filipinos that live in the Philippines don't even speak English, or if they can, it's conyo. So I don't think there's a need to gatekeep anything here. Start embracing new things once in awhile.
You shouldn’t separate us from the motherland because we were born and raised in America. Our ancestors migrated here and did their best to keep our culture, gastronomy and languages. They sacrificed a lot for us FilAm’s. And being a FilAm is tough as it is because almost 100% of the time, we are the only ones in a crowd and stick out like sore thumbs. We have enough struggles of keeping our identity and blending into a western world. We are Filipino. You say this is a western Visayan version of the dance even though the dance originated in Pangasinan. All of that is irrelevant. That is divisive of you.
