    Wish I had saw your video before messing up my cluster. Thinking you install the bubs like they came.

      How’d you mess it up?

    I know this is old but for anyone wanting to do this don’t replace the battery light with LED is is part of the charging system and it needs resistance of incandescent bulb to work properly.

    At 1:47, why do they send the bulbs like that with the wire bent over both sides? Do they work like that in some instrument clusters with the wire bent over both sides?

    At 6:35 I assume since you had modified the bulb where it only had wire on one side at least when you put in before 6:35 on the left side and it was not working. At least all you had to do was turn it (flip it in the socket) to get it to work and when it was in there wrong way it did not damage the circuit board, correct???

    UPDATE: DO NOT USE HOT GLUE. Use epoxy on the led bulbs 1:19

    • @dieselbenzrevive6820
      @dieselbenzrevive6820  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes the hot glue melts and then the bulb gets stuck. Use EPOXY.

      They make a warm version of these LEDs, I'm curious to see if that looks good.

    Thanks for the suggestion on the oil pressure line. I would like to find a way to replace the oil pressure gauge with an electric sending unit but have not found a way to do that yet. I have a 1981 Mercedes 240d and I haven't found a project yet that is recorded on TH-cam that shows anyone who has successfully done this project.

      @@dieselbenzrevive6820 can i use tin to "solder" the oil pressure gaguge thingy where it leaks? Or what is the prefered method?

      @@philen are you refering to the oil pressure guage from leaking oil inside the car? i used solder generaly used in copper water pipes.

    • @philen
      @philen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dieselbenzrevive6820 Exactly, i tried it and it was a really easy fix, i just heated the copper coil/tube and rubbed tin where the leak was, it fixed the problem right away! Took about two hours from start to finish. :-)

    Make sure to tighten the oil pressure line so it does not come loose. I had a bad experience and what a mess. I finally got it cleaned up but I had to clean a lot of oil.

    Did you happen to source LED replacements for the tiny bulbs that light up the switches in the center of the dash?

    • @dieselbenzrevive6820
      @dieselbenzrevive6820  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I fabricated my own from small LED but the color of the light is not as pleasant as the vintage bulbs even warm white LED is not so great but less heat.

    • @dieselbenzrevive6820
      @dieselbenzrevive6820  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your referring to the all glass tiny bulbs that illuminate the center console switches. Do you remember the old school Led that where plastic those are a good solution.i can make a short video of you like

    Still can't figure out how one uses SOLDER wire, a SOLDERING iron and then SODDER the connections. Then again in South Africa we speak ENGLISH.

  • @philen
    @philen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i soldered a resistor instead of a wire where the potentiometer is supposed to be, i just want the lights to be really low dimmed so that i dont get blinded by the cluster lights. Works fine!
