I was taught by my dad to ALWAYS fight back and the bully will move on to someone who doesn't fight back .it's advice that served me well

I've never been in jail but what you said ties in exactly with what a mate (now sadly passed away) told me a few years ago - he said if someone starts on you it doesn't matter if you lose horribly as long as you have a go. If you don't do anything and get beaten up then it's a green light for everyone else to do it. The other bit I was told is that prison analogy is like a big pub - you've got all different sorts of people, if you drink with your sort of people then you'll be ok, you wouldn't make a bee line for people you'd be out of your depth with.....thanks Wildman and Shaun, top blokes : )

I once sat in Comm. Corr. coming down from Suboxone in my bunk bed. It was horrible trying to come off of drugs 'cold turkey' and new to a shitty situation.
Some punkass 18 yr old kid started in on me. Hr jumped on my back and started choking me out and hassling me.
I did a front flip off of my bunk bed and landed on his stomach.
Then, I twisted him up pretty good.
Let THAT be a lesson, to him.

I'm American I was imprisoned from what I gathered if you lose a fight in prison you are still respected for at least fighting back.
I’ve heard mixed accounts about that. If you’re unlucky then losing badly can lead to more trouble apparently

I live close to a military town. Many of the servicemen go out acting all Billy big balls and more often than not they get their arses handed to them.

T-bone is more than just your average marine man!! T-bone is a righteous character and so is wild man, it would take a weird set of circumstances for them to go at it, but in the unlikely event I would place a large portion of my net worth on T-bone. He's taken on and survived fights with multiple of the most horrible bastards locked up in the U.S. And done so as an "independent" and thats over a large sample size! obviously wild man has taken care of a lot of business, but not on the same level as f****n T-bone, I imagine wild man might agree.
I would back T-Bone any day of the week..

I'd love to know if you explained yourself to him after. It sounds like he was reasonable and helped you get back up. It would have sounded cowardly if you tried to tell him beforehand "Oh, I didn't mean to, please don't hurt me!", but after the fight, after he helped you up, could you have said something? Like "I actually can't believe I said that, it just came out"

The mental maturity level of these values is astonishing. Name-Calling is important.
Childhood abuse, whether physical or verbal or otherwise or all of the above, absolutely, irreversibly, and permanently ARRESTS mental development. So the abused remains developmentally seven, or nine, or whatever age he or she was when the trauma occurred. Truly tragic.
I did 13 years in some of England's toughest prisons. As long as you have heart and have a go, win or lose no worries. Back down then there's a problem.

That rule is pretty much only applicable in prison. Everywhere else it's safer to just avoid any serious conflict.

Hi Shaun, (loved your talks at my school (Abingdon) last year btw). How accurate do you think tv shows/movies/other media are currently? Do you think they have become more accurate over time? Also have you ever thought about producing/advising a tv show etc to do with prison life? (Soz for long questions)

I tell ya we don't have the same gang shit here in Aus but the rule is the same, someone's calls you out ya fight, losing the fight isn't what matters, standing up is what matters otherwise later that day you better believe the boys will be looking at you for a free feed.
