In the West we're taught that after 16-20 years of education then thru successful careers & accruing material possessions, we can finally achieve some arbitrary definition of fulfillment, and that anyone else who says they're happy is a sucker for not paying close enough attention. But we're not going to just wake up some day to find we're happy and this cynism is just a coping mechanism. Happiness is a state of mind that although transient can be "practiced" thru gratitude, shared experience, understanding, love, and both tranquility & excitement. Staying grounded in the moment thru presence is worth practice & gratitude. If we only get one go round why not choose happiness NOW?

i don't agree, I see what you want to comunicate, but ego is one of that things in which there can't be a balance. Indeed, there's no right amount of ego. By trying to annihilate your ego with violence it leads to deep sickness, but just annihilating ego as a natural process it isn't something which hurts our "balance". There's no healthy amount needed in life. That's an illusion by your ego. It's because you can't detach from yourself. In that way, if you think that you need your ego, but at the same time you try to annihilate it, you are going to go crazy. that's natural. But ego it's harmful for our soul. There's no right amount. It's just poison.
