Birch Salad Bowl | Woodturning

  • Finishing a Spalted Birch bowl that I rough turned last summer.
    I'm not putting any finish on only water too raise the grain before the last sanding. There was supposed to be a third small bowl also but i accidently sanded trough the bottom of it so it became a lampshade instead.

    I bet the third one as a lampshade looks great with light behind it.
    Wasn't that impressed with the wood's appearance during entire turning process.
    But gorgeous when polished!! Like a fossil. Fresh AND ancient. Nice!

      Thank you very much!! I agree Birch can be a bit bland but I think the spalting really made these bowls look great

    Those bowls look great! Did you dry the blanks in a kiln or... ?

      Thank you very much Stuart!! I let the blanks dry slowly in a box of shavings but I don’t mind if the bowls warp a little so they weren’t fully dry when I turned them
