- This video describes compound miter geometry and shows the methods I use to determine the proper fence and blade tilts to make compound miters. I will show how I make and test the results of a compound miter. Also is a sneak peek at the Hoffmann dovetail joinery I used fasten/clamp the joint.
My favorite compound miter calculation aide is from Matthias Wandel which can be found in either PDF or Excel spreadsheet format at: woodgears.ca/miter/ - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Yes, I would like to see a video of the Hoffmann making a compound miter joint. It would also be nice to see a top-down video of you cutting a miter on your Martin MiterX.
Thank you GK. I'll see if I can figure a way to do that. Steve
Hi kind Sir; I would like for you to make a video; showing combine angles as you did. Thank you Steve. Always a joy to see your video's.
Thank you for the kind words Pat. Steve
Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Ed. Steve
"The easiest way to get a compound miter cut... is to start with a compound miter cut.."
"Trigonometric" (is this a word?)
All joking aside... thanks for this video man
I would love to see how you do those dovetail keys. Especially on a compound angle 🤯
I show how I do so in this video: th-cam.com/video/PX4NdPc22do/w-d-xo.html
Let's see the Hoffman in action!
Thank you Thomas. Steve
Great video! Where did you get your vest??
Thank you Adam. That vest is a Blaklader Bantam Kangaroo vest. This was purchased from theworkwearstore.com Steve
@extremewoodworker Thank you sir!
I changed my comment because I started having trouble making angles fit. I made a splayed box with 20 degrees from vertical. So I need to set my miter to 18.88 and my tilt to 41.64. My tilt on table saw and miter saw goes from 90 to 45. How do I get those angles less than 45? All of them with 4 sides that come to 45 degrees are a tilt of less than 45. What am I missing?
The chart indicates the blade tilt off the vertical. Steve
@@extremewoodworker I finally figured that out and got some good joinery!
If you did the full geometric mathematics method I would watch that video.
That would be an analytics killer video and not in a good way. LOL
So in the simplest form you need this tens of thousands of dollars set up to do it 😂
Nope, use what you have and be as accurate as possible.
I'm sure you will get the correct cut but imagine doing it on tools the common fella has.
I have and I had those tools for many years. Do not believe for a second that I have always had my current tools and machinery. And yes, it can be done with basic tools. Steve
