On the photo with Geronimo and his warriors is Lozen, who was the sister of Victorio! She was a great warrior and she was able to locate the position of the enemies with outstretched hands and singing a prayer!
Victorio said about her, that she was his right hand, fighting like a man and more courageously than the most and that she was cunning in strategy, and that she was a shield for her people! She was also a famous horsebreaker! It is the woman who shows mainly the side of the face, on the right side behind Geronimo!

If the Europeans took the attitude of simply trading with the indians and respecting their territory, the indian tribues wouldve obtained western technology and waged their own wars of supremacy against eachother, it is the nature of humanity.
This seems to have occurred most notably with the Comanches.

It is true for Jicarilla Apache, I am part Jicarilla.
But remembering the stories in Northwest Texas, it wasn’t just Comanche that drove us out, they had help and befriended Kiowa who often raided and war pathed with Comanche.
Just look into a Comanche war band which were of upwards to 1000 peoples, compare that with a Jicarilla or any Apache war band that has maybe 100-150 people and out of them maybe little more than a fourth we’re warriors, the rest women, children, and elder.

1:40 could they have found a more racist and deluded native? I doubt it. Natives were not all kumbaya and sitting around a campfire munching on smores before the white men came. The whole warrior class says they were not, it says they fought enough between tribes to create a whole class of fighters and glorified them. War is second nature if warriors are glorified, and warriors do not exist if peace is the norm. If it was all peace and tranquility and smores the hunters would be the ones with all the glory and there would be no warriors. You don't hear stories of Geronimo bringing back the largest deer the tribe has ever seen but you do hear about his combat prowess and victories... and his name being screamed before jumping out of a plane for some idiot reason.
The warriors were just as savage as the white soldiers, all soldiers then were savages, it's in the very nature of their job to kill with impunity. Natives killed men, women, and children and so did US soldiers. Nobody was innocent of savagery except the civilians who suffered from it on both sides. Mostly the native side suffered and that's a valid grievance but not an avenue to say the native warriors were not savage and only the whites were. They both were and civilians suffered them both.
Killing women and children had a purpose, barbaric and savage as it was. Killing the children was killing tomorrows enemy today before they can be a threat and killing the women was killing the producers and teachers of tomorrows enemy before they were ever born. There was a purpose for the killing of civilians and it was a savagery both sides of any conflict at the time across the whole world partook in.

    • @fwd5614
      @fwd5614 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah he is kind of deluded. The Apaches (who were pretty recent arrivals in the area BTW) were war-like nomads long before any White person stepped foot in the area. They constantly made war on the sedentary Pueblo peoples who had been living in the area for much longer. The Spanish and later Mexican governments never had a shortage of Pueblo volunteers who were ready and willing to launch counter-attacks on the Apache, Comanche and Navajo raiders.

before the savages arrived from Europe there was an estimated1 billion natives in America. within 200 years they were down to a couple of million.
Most natives had never seen a horse and were terified when they 1st saw them. The Apachean tribes quickly got over their fear of horses and adapted to using them as weapons.
The horses were there cause they escaped or ran off during battles and went wild and bred. before Europeans got there there wasnt any horses.
When the 1st settlers arrived in new England they would of starved to death if the local natives hadnt shared their food with them. But being greedy and wanting more food instead of thanking the natives they slaughterd them to steal all their food. Thats what thanksgiving is about. But they neglect to say they slaughterd hundreds of natives to survive the winter out of greed for more food than they needed.
Most natives greeted the invadors from Europe and were happy to help them survive. But the Europeans decided they will take what they want by force. Spanish policy was become catholic or die. Give us ur gold or die.
In the north French and British armies were recruiting natives to join their armies as scouts. those that refused were killed.

Yep. May only have been a few million. Just consider that the Comanches only numbered a thousand or so warriors, and that war against americans lasted 40 years.
It seems like at this point in history the plains indians were far more effective due to prowess with horses and firearms than indians further east.
