Regarded as their funniest sketch. At Ronnie Corbett's funeral, they had four large candles.

The last joke of the sketch, is that the last item on the list is Bill-Hooks.
In the UK, the word B*ll*cks is a rude way to talk about mens' parts, or to say something is stupid or senseless or untrue. (*=o).
So we can imagine how he spelt it, or how he would have pronounced it. lol 😄

Namaste to you both. I am becoming a fan of yours and love your reactions.
The British do love to play with their words. If you ever visit here you will see it gets worse.
We have many phrases or "sayings" we use instead of speaking plain English, which everyone in the UK understands but others struggle with (including Americans who have English as their first language) such as:-
spanner in the works (something that makes your plan go wrong)
long in the tooth (Old and experienced)
Butcher's hook (Look - from cockney rhyming slang which is now UK wide)
Chin wag (to have a chat)
Chip on your shoulder. (Angry about something from the past)
A piece of cake(something that is easy to do)
    It is a minefield!!

"The British do love to play with their words"
And with 600,000 - 1,000,000 words (estimates do vary, rather) now in the Oxford Dictionary, there's plenty to play with: a game that began - together with ale-boozing - with our Anglo-Saxon forebears plundering their _word-hoarde_ !

I haven't seen the Two Ronnies since I was them in reruns in the late 1970s. Some things are timeless.

I was educated in South Africa, and even my British companion says that I speak better English than him. We have learned to enunciate our words properly, even if we have an accent because of our native tongue, we still try hard to speak the late UK Queen's Received Pronunciation English we were taught in school.

I think a lot of younger British people would have trouble understanding some of this sketch. Especially the punchline.

You guys say you love to watch British comedy. Then you have to watch Dave Allen clips its funny and you can relate to it as its universal humour. His best ones are airplanes and Adam and Eve. Thsnks in advance.

    Foot pumps= pumps or plimsolls/daps.
The first "O's" was 'hoes', ( gardening tools)

I have to say I understand all that you are saying no problems there. Some English accents I have trouble with.

It's just a clever play based on word said in a London accent, where different words though different sound the same in a London east End accent.
