This is all very true and good to be reminded of this! Regarding that last quote. Yes, it´s true. But I would add that work does not care about you. We work to earn a living, we work to do something that we hopefully enjoy and learn from and on something that gives us fulfillment and inspires us (but not everyone is so lucky and many just work to live). But even if you have a high-earning job at a big company and give all your time and energy to it, the day you are no longer useful to that company, you will be forgotten. You are just another employee, no matter how loyal you may have been or even felt like that company was your family. They are not your family and they are not your friend. Your family is your family and your friends are your friends.
The same goes for those who ´befriend´ you because they think you might one day become their customer or benefit them in some sort of material way. These are also not real friends. Your true friends don´t want anything from you. They have no ulterior motives. They are genuine and they are rare. Hang on to them.

Absolutely, I agree on that. At least if you are an employee. If it's not your own company, your life creation, the moment it is over, it's over. The problem is when people identify with work too much. The moment they are retired or done with it, they don't have their proud titles (e.g. director, ceo, manager etc.) anymore and don't get the feedback /validation about how well they are doing anymore. If they've spent their whole time dedicated to their careers while neglecting family and friends, they will be left with a lot of emptiness once they left work. Because their whole identity was built up on it. That's a dangerous trap and guarantees unhappiness. So, I don't want to fall into this trap.

@@patrickvogel very true. It’s not a good idea to attach your identity or sense of self to something material or external to yourself.
