In the mid 1980's I was sent to Dallas to take a computer course. The hotels told me everything was booked up. Both a college and pro football game were being played that week. Someone suggested I look into a private rental. So I took a look at the major Dallas newspapers. There were a few private rooms being offered for rentals. But for a city the size of Dallas; not that many. And 1980 was when those that owned stocks started doing way better financially. That trend had just started. Who needed to rent their home. How many personal computers were in existence. As far as I know there were no smartphones. By the time home room rental became viable I was off doing others things. Things I'd put too much time and money into. Silly me. Timing is everything.
Why would a host make a good tour guide?! And why would I trust “Joe Schmoe” over a TRAINED PROFESSIONAL?! I guess I am not the target market for that service because it seems crazy and inefficient to me.
It would be nice if Airbnb would align with all the major tourisms actors and remove their fees if the trip is cancelled. It is definitely quite unfair to keep the money of a deal that just couldn't go through. So far, Airbnb is not moving anywhere near such a measure. Is money the only thing they understand? It had to come from the U.S.A. for sure...

This rubbish is very obviously done buy people that have no idea about Airbnb if they did then they would cover things like the fake customer service offered in over 186 countries around the world,, ask yourself a question, have you ever seen an Airbnb customer service car???? Really, oh and there 1 million dollar insurance coverage, ask hosts that have made claims like me,, yes it's BS, and there experiences packages cost 20% more money just so you can pay them to be able to use their site
I have a start a group called Party in my house, to allow people to hire their houses for parties,events and programs only, like to know how many people are interested in the idea.
Try it out but watch out, it won't be easy to find home owners who will agree to host parties (parties are dangerous, and people break stuff). But who knows, maybe there's a market if you calibrate it well and vet the guests
My business partner and I are looking at creating app that was a list of cleaners,cake makers,DJ,list of dresses and men suit providers aswell etc. What you said may be a problem
They implemented this change 1 or 2 years ago, after this video was published. It is not much of a difference though. Before, the traveller had to pay a 15% fee on top. Right now it's the host who pays it, so hosts just increased their prices to arrive at the same level.
I'm mainly focusing on the innovative aspects of business models. I try to skip the traditional parts to make videos shorter. In Airbnb's case the revenue model is pretty common
It is really nice idea, but I have some observations. What about taxes? The home owners are generating income, now several countries are pressing for get the proper taxes from them (as they shrinking the hotel industry ). And experience - taking jobs either - how professional they will be? Teaching yoga or doing cosmetics or cooking the meal? Some countries required licence for it some of them. Not to say that it will steal really the jobs on local market. Just observation. ( It is still pandemic now - so mostly everyone is out of job.)
I think you being up a great point! I would assume that an AirBnB host would open a business entity to help with the tax burden, no? Then the customer is not paying a person, they are paying a business, like any other. What do you think?
