Elway with SF vs Marino in 1984 (Jan 85). Those 84 49ers made the top 5 teams of all time before Rice was drafted. Walsh is not fired after an NFC championship run. They made the NFCC game against Washington in 83 as well, so they would still be great. Elway had his best work with Shanahan, who was a 49ers coach and ran the WCO. Here's a small what if that many people don't think about: In 1982, the Bears drafted Jim McMahon with the 5th overall pick. Was Productive, became a Pro Bowler and helped the '85 Bears win a Super Bowl. But the Bears missed out on Hall of Fame Linebacker, Andre Tippett, who was a 5x Pro Bowler and a 4x All Pro, racking up 100.5 career sacks. He was drafted in the 2nd round to the Patriots (of the same draft with McMahon) And because they drafted Jim in 1982, they missed out on the legendary QBs in the 1983 draft (Marino, Elway and Kelly) So, what if instead of drafting McMahon, they drafted Andre with the 5th pick and paired him with guys like Singletary, Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, Steve McMichael. And in 1983, they can use their 1st round pick on Marino. So you have both Walter Payton with an actual great QB and You have Marino with an actual great Running back. Could easily win more than 1 Super Bowl with that new squad.
The 85 Bears, in my opinion, are the single greatest NFL Team of the Super Bowl Era. If they had Marino and Tippett, that's just...oh my. Everything's dead. Shit would become horrible for everyone. They'd be the 80s Niners only 10 times better. Threepeat in 84, 85, 86, a 16-0 season has to be in their somewhere. People would hate them forever, maybe to the point where Packers-Vikings isn't even close to a rivalry anymore due to their evil oppressors and overlords, the Bears. Who woulda thunk it. I'm not a Bears fan, but oh boy, they would be unstoppable.
@Mobile Gamer Dude I can't imagine a scenario where the Bears would draft Andre Tippett in 1982. Chicago already had HOFs Dan Hampton and Mike Singletary on defense and the Bears had a desperate need for a franchise QB. They hired a new head coach (Mike Ditka), so this was the year to address that need. The Bears couldn't wait any longer. There's no way that they could have used such a high draft pick on a LB when they already had depth there. Drafting McMahon in 1982 was the only choice they could make. About the 1983 draft, because the Bears already had McMahon, Raiders owner Al Davis wanted to trade up to use the Bears' #6 1st round pick in a deal with the Baltimore Colts for Elway. The Raiders actually offered Howie Long to the Bears for their 1st round pick but that trade deal fell apart. Al believed that Commissioner Roselle either outright killed the trade or talked the Bears into backing out.

Nah I don’t think so because they moved to Indianapolis because I think they wanted their own stadium and not share a stadium with other teams in Baltimore and that has nothing to do with the draft.
Everyone talks about THE CATCH, but no one talks about THE TACKLE. Danny White hits Drew Pearson on the next drive right after THE CATCH. Drew Pearson was going to score but Eric Wright was the last defender to use a finger to horse collar Pearson at the 50. Horse collars were legal back then. If he doesn't tackle him, Dallas scores and the 49ers lose. Well Eric Wright makes the tackle, next play Danny White gets sacked and he fumbles the ball and the 49ers dynasty is born.

Elway never played the 85 Bears, but Marino shredded them. Would an Elway led 49ers have beaten the Bearsin the regular season and made them a 2 loss team in 85, coming off of a Super Bowl win in 84? IfElwaycouldexpose the Bears the same way Marino did, the bears might not even make the Super Bowl and Elway + Rice make a back to back run in 84/85. Montana was benched in 87 against the Vikings and Young almost tied the game late. For an Elway led team beat the Vikings and host the NFC Championship game against the Redskins in 87? They were 13-2 that year. Does Walsh retire in 88? He came out of retirement to coach Stanford and said he regretted retiring, but there pressure was too much. Is there as much pressure with more rings in 85 and/or 87? Does a Wash led team with Elway beat the 1990 Giants for a 3-peator even 4 peat if they finish the 87 run? If Walsh doesn't retire in 88, is there a chance the 49ers promote Holmgren or Mike Shanahan instead of George Seifert? Do the 49ers draft Shannon Sharpe to replace Brent Jones? One name not mentioned here was Greg Cook, Walsh’s QB as OC in Cincinnati in 1969-70, and whose injury ushered in the “West Coast Offense”. Walsh called Cook the most talented QB he saw. Elway was a Cook-like QB.
So you're saying that if your team goes 13-3 and makes it to the NFC Championship Game, after years of irrelevance, you want to fire the coach and change QBs?
Its not if "The Catch" never happened its What If the "Horse Collar Tackle" penalty rule was in effect back then. Dallas may have had a chance to kick a field goal. Much more plausible.
If SF does not win, SF remains the same. They had been at a low point and Walsh had changed the culture. They had come up from quite some depth and the SF owner would had left things alone. If they lose this game, they still had a very successful season. Dallas would had gone on to beat the Bengals in the SB.
Instead of the Catch, make one of What if Eric Wright is called for a Horse Collar against Drew Pearson or What if the Tuck Rule applied to Danny White on the next play?
This "what if" leaving off one factor that is "what if" Steve Young didn't get that 40 million dollar contract by Los Angeles in 1984 before getting drafted into the NFL the next summer.
Not sure why Baltimore Colts aren't brought up in this scenario, If the 49ers don't make SB16 then I think Walsh is fired after a 3-6 1982 season. Colts management is desperate and saw that Walsh took a 2-14 team to a near SB and give him a shot, Walsh and Elway can certainly strike up a good convo and Walsh convinces Elway to stay in Baltimore. The changes from there could be Miami over Bears in SB19 ( only team to beat the Bears in 85) Colts over Bears in SB20, Giants, Washington over Colts in SB21/22, Colts over Bears again in 23, and maybe a Colts over Rams in SB24
Surely, Dan Marino would have been able to notch 1 Super Bowl before the Miami defense fell apart in the later 80s. The Dolphins matched up well with the Bears at that time, but who knows. And Dan Marino didn't just fall apart in the Super Bowl. Bill Walsh beat him with some top level strategy... and the Niners used cooking oil on their offensive linemen's jerseys.
Brian Evans I’d say it was Everson Walls that gets unfairly remembered. He was having an amazing game and went on to have a really good career. At least he and Danny won SBs at other points in their careers.
I'll tell you what happens... the cowboys win Superbowl 16, and most likely 17. Equally important, the hot headed Debartolo fires Walsh after the 83 season. The Cowboys who typically underpaid players, along with the craftiness of Tex Schramm, throw a wet blanket on the 82 strike. The owners seeing how the cowboys are able to do more with less, tighten their resolve, and down the line the 87 strike never happens, and free agency is postponed for decades. Maybe, the Raiders don't leave Oakland in 84(partially due to 49er fans giving up and rooting for the team across the bay. Maybe the Colts don't leave Bmore, and that spoiled brat Elway, because of the perceived weakness of the players union has no choice but to be drafted by the Colts and play! No west coast offense manifests. Washington and Dallas are contenders for the rest of the decade. Sitka still goes to Chicago, but because of his shared victory as an assistant coach kin Dallas in 82, he scraps Butty Ryan's defense( which he did when Ryan left). Maybe the Bears win a superbowl anyway. Tom Landry is never fired but resigns some time in the mid nineties. The Cowboys don't get Johnson, and probably don't win Superbowls in the 90s. As a boys fan, have to admit I'd rather have seen that scenario play out. Would have been better for the nfl as a whole, rather than the obstinanc we see today.
Does Joe go to Washington? Or maybe Green Bay? Pittsburgh? Denver? LA? KC Early? The New York Jets? He's certainly not as effective outside of SF, but it deserves some thought.
In this scenario what happens to Dan Marino? If The 49ers trade up for John Elway, The Broncos are still looking for a quarterback. I think The Broncos would draft Dan Marino. How does that change NFL History? How many Super Bowls would Dan Marino had won?
As a lifetime Cowboys fan I don’t want the catch to change. I really enjoyed watching the Cowboys grow and become a dynasty under Jimmy Johnson. The revenge in 1992 at Candle Stick was so sweet that I can’t even imagine it not happening. So no thanks and why make a video like this?? Its lame like the whole idea. So just chill and enjoy the highlights already made.
How about you title this video more accurately. Say if Wright didnt tackle Pearson by the shirt colars with 38 seconds left the Cowboys would have won even WITH the "Catch" happening. Watch the end of the game after the 49ers TD Catch
11 years later 1992 NFC Championship known as change of the Guard Dallas Cowboys beat San Francisco 49ers 30-20 rollover Joe Montana Here come Troy Aikman 🏈
They act as if Joe Montana’s career would have ended here. If a trade to Denver or whatever had happened, he still would have been great! Not so fast Browns fans. lol
Adrian’s Cards Walls is just unfairly remembered by too many people for that play. But people that followed him or the league more give him his credit. He was having a great game, had a really good career, and eventually got a SB with the Giants. He became friends with Dwight Clark for the rest of Dwight’s life.
You do realize that Manchester United did beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League finals in 1999 to win their historic treble (FA Cup and Premier League title along with the CL trophy).
I'm sorry, but this is the most overrated game and play maybe not just of football history, but maybe sports. Start with the play. It's third, not fourth down. It wasn't even the best play of that game, with the game saving tackle a few plays later. There was still 60 seconds left. As for the game, it wasn't a superbowl, and it wasn't between two "great" teams. It was between a great team and team that would decline to irrelevance. It was a changing of the guard. It happens a lot. That is what a lot of big games are! Is it a great game/play? Sure. Is it better than take your pick: *Malcolm Butler *Santonio Holmes *Mike Jones *James Harrison *David Tyree Please. It is not the second greatest catch/play and not the second greatest game in NFL history. Not even close.

Danny White is remembered for being the great QB that he was, rather than the guy who always was the bridesmaid.
I don’t think the Bears would’ve been as dominant because remember buddy Ryan left the Bears
John Elway a.k.a. Elusive Elway.
Why is text to speech announcing this tho
The cowboys wouldve went to the superbowl...
Minecraftlando and everson walls would be in the hall of fame
Does Joe go to Washington? Or maybe Green Bay? Pittsburgh? Denver? LA? KC Early? The New York Jets? He's certainly not as effective outside of SF, but it deserves some thought.
Everson Walls a.k.a. Everywhere Everson.
Joe Montana a.k.a. Mighty Montana.
In this scenario what happens to Dan Marino? If The 49ers trade up for John Elway, The Broncos are still looking for a quarterback. I think The Broncos would draft Dan Marino. How does that change NFL History? How many Super Bowls would Dan Marino had won?
I'm sorry but the dark underground office makes no sense.
You're exactly right...
You ARE sorry.
Whiner.
@@Head318Hunter ? For Saying something that doesn't make sense to me which is just a simple opinion lol good try tho bud
what if Eddie Georgie made it to the endzone?
As a lifetime Cowboys fan I don’t want the catch to change. I really enjoyed watching the Cowboys grow and become a dynasty under Jimmy Johnson. The revenge in 1992 at Candle Stick was so sweet that I can’t even imagine it not happening. So no thanks and why make a video like this?? Its lame like the whole idea. So just chill and enjoy the highlights already made.
Who ever runs this channel are cowgirls fans
Interesting! But say that "The Catch" didn't happened, and Landry wins that third Super Bowl does Jerry Jones buys the team?
@@matthewdaley746 That's debatable
Kinda seems like a knock off of the N if L with Dave Damesheck
And with Elway in the NFC.. Maybe the Jets win Super Bowl 33.
Simple, Dallas would've won and would be tied with NE and Pit with six rings as Cincinnati still loses the SB
Lose the effects, wtf?!
How about you title this video more accurately.
Say if Wright didnt tackle Pearson by the shirt colars with 38 seconds left the Cowboys would have won even WITH the "Catch" happening. Watch the end of the game after the 49ers TD Catch
And the 70s
If the Catch never happened Cowboys fans would be even more annoying
11 years later 1992 NFC Championship known as change of the Guard Dallas Cowboys beat San Francisco 49ers 30-20 rollover Joe Montana Here come Troy Aikman 🏈
I Serve The Soviet Union I agree 100%
They act as if Joe Montana’s career would have ended here. If a trade to Denver or whatever had happened, he still would have been great! Not so fast Browns fans. lol
This is interesting spitballing but I think some of the thinking here is just a little too out there.
I think that it is a little overrated. Srry 49ers fans. My favorite player is Jerry RIce though
Jerry Zhang it ruined Everson Walls career
Adrian’s Cards Walls is just unfairly remembered by too many people for that play. But people that followed him or the league more give him his credit.
He was having a great game, had a really good career, and eventually got a SB with the Giants.
He became friends with Dwight Clark for the rest of Dwight’s life.
Dez Bryant didnt catch the ball by the 2014 standards. It's that simple. Off topic but yeah
This is the New N if L...
49ers: Bayern Munich
Cowboys: Manchester United
You do realize that Manchester United did beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League finals in 1999 to win their historic treble (FA Cup and Premier League title along with the CL trophy).
@@redmustangredmustang so?
hi
If Dwight Clark doesn't make the catch, then Brett Favre isn't a Hall of Famer.
Sure. Is it better than take your pick:
*Malcolm Butler
*Santonio Holmes
*Mike Jones
*James Harrison
*David Tyree
Please. It is not the second greatest catch/play and not the second greatest game in NFL history. Not even close.
What if the patriots win SB XLII??
They would be the first 19-0 team
I miss sports so much. Why did some Asian in Japan have to eat a bat?
iT wAs In ChInA
Answer: Cowboys would’ve gone to the super bowl and probably would’ve won against Cincinnati and we wouldn’t be talking about this overrated ass play
Lexington Leffall and Everson Walls would be in the hall
