When episode 1 of the new Jet Lag season came out and featured a whole new batch of teaser clips of the season to come, I was equal parts excited and terrified! I had already spent a whole week locating the clips from the trailer. Did I have time to do it again? Well, with the aid of some incredibly helpful people from the Jet Lag Discord server, I am now happy to announce that every single clip from the trailer and teaser has now been located.
Thanks to Anotherdoofus, Archacovercosine, Gopher, Jaspinko and everyone else who chimed in with their ideas and discoveries!
This video was released about 45 minutes before Jet Lag season 8 episode 3 was released on Nebula.

This video was made as these discoveries were happening, in order to try and summarize it all the best I could before the release of the next episode. The video was filmed over four different recording sessions, and it definitely shows, but hopefully the meaning is not lost. For the record:

In 21:47 of episode 1, there is a shot from a plane taking at sunrise. The window and the sticker match the exit window of a Bombardier CRJ-500/700/900. PSA Airlines 5633 DFW-BHM, operating as American Airlines is operated by a CRJ-900 and takes off from DFW to the south at 7:50AM CDT and arrives at BHM at 9:16 AM EDT. This would ensure they miss both early Delta flights into Key West.
In 21:24 of episode 1, the shot of Sam and Michelle in the car is on US-50 in Delta, Colorado heading east. In the desert shots on I-70 I initially thought they were headed to Grand Junction (GCT) airport for a flight to Dallas, but given the time and the direction, it is unlikely they make that flight and instead fly out of Montrose (MJT) airport to Dallas at 1:25 PM MDT and gets in at 4:31 PM CDT. This is what caused us to think they were stuck in Dallas initially before the CRJ image was analyzed.
As an aside I think that Ben and Adam win (they still have plenty of routes including a very good route through CLT) but I am rooting for Sam and Michelle because I love Michelle's energy (plus as much as I like the boys, they do have an advantage having designed the game).
I have just finished viewing the season, and without any spoilers, its beyond comprehension how accurate this video is. Im so glad I didnt watch this before Jet Lag, but you are right about everything and the amount of time you had to put into this is insane

I think we need a similar analysis of the teasers for previous seasons, which should provide some insights in how the editors think when picking clips for those. Only then will we know how to interpret this one!

While making the ending portion of the video, I did go and look at the trailer for the Race to the End of the World (New Zealand) season. I think that's the only trailer we have from a season with a race-style game. If I remember correctly, they just don't show much of the ending at all in that one, so I didn't find much to compare to.
I don't know why I always root for Ben and Adam even though they almost always win, maybe it's because they write and edit and control the narrative or maybe I would like their vibes no matter what (this is what I lean towards) but Sam has to win sometimes to keep the show exciting lol. Your theory makes a lot of sense and I'm very excited to see how it pans out (and after episode 2 I'm very excited to see how Ben and Adam make it out of Anchorage).
I often find myself flip-flopping between teams, but I felt I should pick a side this time. ;)

I was overwhelmed as well! I did not expect to be able to uncover as many clips as we did, much less so for those clips to reveal almost the entirety of both routes.

I'm not sure if this info will help or not but I work for American Airlines at the Pittsburgh International Airport and I ran into Ben and Adam there they were asking if they could hop onto our flight to Charlotte to get that nonstop flight to Key West like you said but sadly our flight was full. I'm not sure what they ended up doing but I guess we will all find out soon!
This is actually pretty huge since it cuts off what I believed was their most likely route to Key West. To me that leaves only one real option remaining with is the Delta combo. (I don't buy any of the driving ones because of the long distance flights and the Silver Airways one is a insane gamble)

Wow! I am very, very happy that I only found your videos only *after* having watched the finale of this season. I honestly think it would have spoiled the fun for me and I don't believe I would have been so reasonable to not let myself be spoiled by your speculations. It is absolutely crazy, how accurate almost all of your predictions were! I am really impressed by your skills and I absolutely understand how much fun this can be I just hope that they have seen your videos as well and will take that into consideration for creating future season trailers. Not because I want you to not have fun with all this speculation, but I hope that if your research is even more difficult and if there is more ambiguity the risk that accurate speculations will spoil the season for the more mainstream audience will be kept low enough.
Yeah no offence taken. Your point is completely valid. I had some of these concerns as the project went on and more and more of the season was revealed. I'm very happy we didn't end up predicting the winner 100%, because I wouldn't have been so comfortable relaying that info on TH-cam as I had planned. You'll be happy to hear that the teaser for season 9 leaves a lot of the routes and gameplay a mystery!
The issue for Ben and Adam is that Amtrak train would have already stopped in Pittsburgh before Connellsville, so there's no reason they'd be heading for PIT airport from that location
Valid point. The best theory I've heard for why we have both of those clips is that the train would have left Pittsburgh Station a couple of minutes before the rest period ended. So perhaps there's a rule against leaving the train before the rest period ends.
@@Hamfrags So normally the CL stops in PIT at 5am followed by Connelsville an hour later, since it's bright as day in the clips, I'm thinking there was a delay during the night that caused some kind of reroute for them
@@SharperTravel The streetlights in Connellsville are still on even though the sun has come up, so it's gotta be pretty early still. I think someone on the Discord said that there was a train from Chicago stopping at Pittsburgh a few minutes before 7 am, so 7 am became the theorized start time for day 5. It would've been before the sun rose on day 5.
Either way, I'm confident that the clips are from Pittsburgh Airport and Connellsville Station respectively. I'm not confident why, though.
@@SharperTravel Yeah there's definitely some mystery around this. The train they are on is actually running late and actually arrives in PGH after the 6am rest period. Its possible the rules are based of the scheduled time rather than the actual time. Or they move the rest period to 7am.

Maybe we don't see any footage of Adam and Ben in Key West because they didn't do any driving when they got there but Michelle and Sam did?

oh, i think i know why michelle is mad at ben and adam as you show at 6:59. I think it is regards to challenge cliffhanger on episode 3 (i have a nebula subscription so i can see the episodes a week earlier). So i guess there is a challenge battle there, and now i can assume who wins that.
What a wonderful recommendation by the TH-cam algorithm. Will be fun to see how true these predictions get.
I do find it weird that Ben and Adam went North to Milwaukee. They both seem like smart guys, and it seems illogical to go in the direction opposite of where they are going. They must have had to go on a northern route as their initial gameplan or some kind of challenge prevented them. I'm personally leaning toward their plan to go on a northern route because we know they tend to plan out things ahead of time as game designers. Also, from previous seasons their plans usually rely on certain things going their way and if they don't, they usually get screwed by it. I do see these predictions fitting this pattern of having a strict plan that relies on certain things occurring.
In addition to relating to previous seasons, Sam has usually taken the safer and more straightforward route. This makes sense because his teammate has no experience in jet lag, so it is better for whoever is a teammate to take this route. The prediction has Sam and Michelle going on the safest route, which is going from one city to another city closest to the end goal. So, I do believe your predictions of the possible routes they took are entirely accurate so far.
Now based on previous seasons, the outcome usually depends on how unlucky each team gets and how well they handle it. Ben and Adam have so far faced the worst luck but have also handled it well so far. However, I do believe that Sam and Michelle do win, primarily because we know they do get to Key West. I mean how much bad luck can Ben and Adam take and with that clip in Pittsburg, that late in the game, could possibly take away the win. Also, Michelle is not an incompetent teammate, her whole channel is based on trying new things she has no prior experience with. I also may be biased as someone who roots for Sam each season.
I also suggest that after this season is over, you see where you were correct in your predictions and where you were wrong. I mean the best way to learn is from mistakes. You could also do this for a previous season and work backward by knowing how it ends to figure out how they did it in previous seasons. Then after having experience, you could have next season fully predicted by the teaser.
The reason for Milwaukee will become quite clear pretty soon.
Thanks for the long reply! I'll add that Sam has also been known to stray from the safest path and make big, risky plays if he's behind. See seasons 2 and 4. I agree Ben and Adam have been handling all the bad luck masterfully this season. While they have at least one way of getting to Key West before Sam and Michelle, I think the best they're gonna end up being able to do is grt there on the same plane as them. Really hoping that that scenario is what we get! :D
You should do this after every episode and one at the end of the season where you go through your predictions to see which ones you got right and wrong. So far you have managed to get most of the first 3 and a half days right. I haven’t watched episode 4 yet because I don’t have Nebula but I suspect that Ben and Adam won the card that allows them to go to Denver. It is wired that Ben and Adam would be going North instead of South maybe they got the same airline card that Michelle and Sam got and it sent them North instead of South. Instead maybe they got a different card that sent them North. I feel like Sam and Michelle won because they continued to go south while Ben and Adam went North. Ben and Adam would have been much farther away than Sam and Michelle so they would have gotten to Key West much later than Sam and Michelle. Maybe Sam and Michelle took a direct flight from Dallas to Key West and then drove to the location they were told to finish at. I’m rooting for Sam and Michelle 😊
Thanks for such a long and thought-out response! It could look like the flight to Milwaukee is a set-destination ticket like the Denver one. I think someone on the Discord was trying to make out some of the day 4 tickets that they briefly show in the episodes, and one of them looked like it was a Milwaukee reference.

(SPOILERS) The reason why Adam and Ben didn't leave the train in Pittsburgh, but continued to Connellsville is that the train arrives in Pittsburgh at 5:05, which is during rest period. They aren't probably allowed to leave train during rest period. The train arrives in Connellsville just before 7 am, which is outside the rest period.
Also, I can't wait to see which ticket forced them to go to Milwaukee. That seems pretty weird choice.
Also why did they take that sleeper, Chicago has much more options than Pittsburgh. It wasn't certainly their plan A, because in trailer Adam says: "That's really bad." They probably lost some crucial flight ticket to Sam and Michelle (Or they stole it) and they thought that only way to get there before S&M is to catch flights from PIT via CLT shown at 20:24 . For which they would quickly grind tickets in Pittsburgh from new deck.
However, @alexanderpeltz7871 wrote here in comments that that flight was full. If true, only option for them is to go to Atlanta and catch the same flight to Key West S&M are taking. They took either DL2185 (10:16-11:49) or DL1728 (12:55-14:34). If they took the latter they would only have around 30 min in Atlanta so they would try their luck with Delta late booking again. All in all, there is a really high chance both team are on the same plane to Key West.
I think that Sam and Michelle have still higher chance of winning, because we know they would make it. Ben and Adam might get stuck in Atlanta or even Pittsburgh.
Good catch, I missed the fact the 2nd DL flight also gets in early enough. I'm fully on board team same plane now.

Your theory about Connellsville sounds super plausible. I think Anotherdoofus and potentially other people brought up the same point on the Discord. Regarding the Milwaukee ticket, my theory is that the destination had to be further north than the departure.
Having heard that the Pittsburgh-Charlotte flight was all booked, I now wish that I had mentioned in the video the possibility of both teams ending up on the same plane. It would be such a fun way for the series to conclude! And it would provide a somewhat unexpected third answer to the question of why we're only shown footage from one arrival in Key West!
I actually think both teams being on the same flight from ATL makes a lot of sense. Also would explain why we only get clips from Sam’s team for the journey to Florida, as they would likely not want to spoil that both were on the same flight, or arrived at the same time. So just choose one team and only include their clips so people don’t notice that the timing is exactly the same, or that the flight is the same, etc…
Further evidence for them getting on the delta flight within the 30 minutes, and thus ending up on the same plane- I have a nebula subscription and in the first or second layover podcast episode (probably second I guess?) Ben said the late booking/standby hack came in handy again later in the season! We haven’t seen them use it a second time yet, and I think the only remaining options would be if they use it to get to Milwaukee or to get on that Atlanta flight

There are two clips which I think are stock footage. The drone footage of a river with Mount Denali in the background, and the close-up of the southernmost point monument. Both appear within the first couple seconds of the trailer, and the latter appears again at the beginning of episode 1.
@@Hamfrags ah yeah that's fair! On the podcast they said Denali was out in Anchorage but if it doesn't look like how it would from the plane approach there (esp given how they like to frame with the wing), then it's definitely stock footage, same when the weather / camera type on key west monument

Sorry if this was a dumb question, but how do you know that the car footage (and plane landing footage) in Key West is from Sam and Michelle? To me it looked like the footage was ambiguous as to who was there
Not a dumb question! In the video, I state this with a level of certainty in my voice that I probably shouldn't have had. The reason I so confidently said so is that I had concluded that the angle of the sunlight was congruent in all the Key West clips we're shown. That lead me to believe that the clips were all taken at the same time. And as I also explain in the video, this is the angle that the sun would've been at when Sam and Michelle's plane from Atlanta arrived in Key West. Hence the confidence.
In the list of possible routes for Ben and Adam that I show in this video, the best and most likely one would take them from Pittsburgh to Charlotte, and from there to Key West, getting them there well before Sam and Michelle. This was the leading theory on Discord at the time this video was released. But literally within 24 hours of this video releasing, the leading theory switched to the next point on that list. Namely, that Ben and Adam don't make the flight to Charlotte, and in stead go to Atlanta, where they take the same plane to Key West as Sam and Michelle.
So given that this is now the leading theory, those clips we see from Key West might well be recorded by either Sam, Michelle, Ben or Adam. If they really all end up on the same plane to Key West, the season would end in a taxi or Uber race, and any of them could win. And my assertion that the clips were definitely recorded by Sam and Michelle would be wrong!
@@Hamfrags that makes sense, thanks for replying! After watching ep 5 on nebula, Sam and Michelle do indeed have the cards to make this route work (600 miles on American : DFW-BHM, 400 mile drive to Atlanta, and 800 mile flight to a neighboring state to get them to key west). But the episode did end on the cliffhanger of the steal, which I assume they won given the clip of Adam and Ben being upset when getting on their train. If they win the steal, they will have to get rid of a card to accommodate the steal card and then the stolen card, and neither of Adam and Ben’s cards would work for them on any part of their route, which would require them to do some challenges at some point along their route on day 5. Very exciting and I’m surprised by how much (to me anyway) it still feels like it could be anyone’s game at this point!

Yes, I'm kinda glad that this project didn't put me in the difficult situation of knowing the winner and having to choose whether to reveal it. It truly is anyone's game!
There are multiple reasons, some of which I won't share here because they relate to stuff that the crew said on the Nebula-exclusive podcast. One reason is that another person in this comment section claims to know that the fast route through Charlotte wasn't viable in the end. That part is a little iffy since I would rather be basing my conclusions off of what the crew have willingly given us to analyze. I may release a quick video next week where I go through this.

I should have thought of this when I was getting ready for release, but I changed it now to be a bogus map!
If you notice in the trailer the clips of the plane landing in key west there are actually 4 clips. You can tell that 2 of them are lighter then the other. And the two car picture leaving key west airport you can see a glimpse of a female arm in the first van.
I say both teams leave the key west airport within 1 minutes of each other. You can hear a female voice says Come on! Which sounded annoyed. I think red team passes the yellow team right before they arrive at the parking lot at the mad dash to the sign happens. There are two possible routers and I say the red team will win.
Amusingly one of the options I came up with was both teams ending up on the same flight.
I never thought of this, but that car in front of the POV one in the clip where they're just leaving the airport might just be the other team. I am now hoping this is the case!
I gotta say, I don't see the arm if that's the clip you're talking about, and I also don't hear the voice.

Ben and Adam win because they always win. Jetlag is more contrived than the the Bachelor. It's clever to find all these locations. it provides fond memories of trying to find prebroadcast locations for the Amazing Race teams. Any scenario where Adam and Ben write all the challenges give them a huge legup (at least) in any situation. i don't know why Sam seems blithly ignorant to the huge handicap he plays with. Being saddled with a different partner of different skillsets and no particular knowledge of the game is the other big handicap baked into the show. i assume he is only focused on making appealing video and doesn't mind being the designated loser.
I agree that Ben and Adam have an advantage, but I'm pretty sure they did simulations with all the players ahead of time. And Sam is also somewhat involved with every step of the game design.
It's interesting how both teams are often capable of feeling like the underdog team, with Sam making such bold moves and often failing, and Ben and Adam often seeming more like they're there to joke around. There are plenty of exceptions to both, of course!
