    Thank you. I love this stuff. I also have to give you credit for naming your mentors and where you get ideas from. Keep the videos coming.

    Thank you for this video! I watched for the queen introduction cages but the queen pocket cage and the queen cell protector cages are real bonuses for me! Thanks, again!

    You are by far the easiest person to learn from. To bad more teachers arent like you!

    I at one time made some of my own hives and frames, but have gone back to buying them. I was spending almost as much on the wood as the cost of the shipped product, not to count the time in the cabinet shop. I love the videos and I am sharing.

    Hitting the edges with a rubber mallet over the forming stick will help sharpen and set the corners without damaging the screen.

      True enough. And as a general rule in the workshop, if the mallet doesn't make a good enough corner, get a bigger mallet!

    Thank you for making such a simple, straightforward, easy to follow video! Would adding extra wire ties be secure enough without soldering? We don't have the right equipment yet.

      Certainly worth a try. You might also try a small dab of glue (such as super glue).

    Would there be a way to add like a candy exit/release to the press on cage?

    • @beekeepersworkshop
      @beekeepersworkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure! One of the nice things about making your own gadgets is that you can modify and tinker with the basic idea. If done this for the benton (pocket) cage. It worked well.

    If you cut a slot down the narrow side of the wood, where the cage meets and you pre-prepare bent wire and put them in the slot, you can more easily secure the cage in the middle. Just a thought ?

    What is the gauge of the hardware cloth?

    • @beekeepersworkshop
      @beekeepersworkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hardware cloth used is "8 gauge" meaning 8 squares per inch. It might be a special order item at your local hardware but most places can easily do that.

    I found it easier put solder on the end of the gun take the pliers push down, dab the solder on it, let it cool and release, then add more Rather than using the wire ties

    i like your channel. WOndering about the smell of the sodering grease ( i dont know the name) could it deter queen acceptance? how do you clean it? great ideas. Im a beekeper from Argentina, ive traditionaly made queen via blind nucs at late summer. We have relative "gentle" winter (if there's such a thing, lowest temp is -5°C less than 15 days a year). This is mas fathers career and i want to improve the queen rearing system such that we start replacing all 3yo queens, making 33% of new queens is going to be a challenge, but achievable i think.

      I have never seen any adverse reaction to the solder or the flux. If you are concerned, I would simple wash the finished item in hot soapy water.
