That looks challenging yet fun. I would love to make one of these bamboo bicycles.

The title of this video should be, "How to build a bamboo bike and watch it under 7 minutes.".

great video. What kind of glue did you use around 1:07 (the white one) ? Is it a 5 minute glue just to hold all the pieces of the frame together ?

What's the green thing that they put on to the fiber?

  • @tedmarakas2626

Just curious, why nobody uses carbon fiber and resin to connect the tubes and stays? Carbon fiber is super strong, no need for a thick blob of hemp and no need for sanding, shaping, etc. Plus, it would look mad cool.

Some do. They’re more expensive kits though.

@@22airgun Thank you for the response, I would imagine that the fabric nowadays is fairly inexpensive. However, the resins can be expensive. But, coming to think about it, similar resin is used for cementing the hemp. The problem here is that these frames are NOT mass produced and nothing brings the prices down like high production volume.

@@tedmarakas2626 I agree. Mass production does just that. Maybe someday the bamboo frames will be mass produced. In the meantime, they’re being marketed as an alternative to high end carbon fiber bikes. If you start producing bamboo frames, please remember guys over 6’. I’d gladly buy a bike under $2.5k in my size. It’s hard to find any bike my size on the cheap.

@@22airgun Me, too. I'm 6.2" with a 32" inseam. Bikes nowadays are so expensive. You can easily spend $5-$6k on a BICYCLE. For that kind of money you can buy the top of the line ROYAL ENFIELD MOTORCYCLE. Unreal.

José Alberto Castillo Peña It looks like ``Bondo`` by the USA name. Basically it is car body filler. It is white, hardens, and can be polished with sand paper, just like what they use here, in this clip. Today there are formulas that can resist mechanical stress, so while they get really hard, they are also a bit elastic.

Today there are formulas that can resist mechanical stress, so while they get really hard, they are also a bit elastic. But I still would not recommend it for this type of application, although it might be alright to be used as a first layer, as they use it here, just to keep things together, then they apply a layer of what looks like cloth made of natural fibers (hem) and then carbon fiber with e-poxy resin. I think is a bit over-engineered, but this guys are german. They over engineer everything, just to be sure. :) Another think that might be is gypsum, but that crushes really easy, and makes itself dust under the layers of e-poxy resin, resulting in damages joints. They look like skilled guys, so I don`t think they are that stupid to use it. Hope it helps. Cheers.

Bamboo? Not hardly. You could have built it out of toilet rolls simply because of all of the compounds added to it.

Why doesn't anyone building these use vacuum bags for the joints???
