On Themyscira, Hippolyta joins the Amazons in the temple where the Mother Box is kept. After a while, it appears to power down. A portal then comes down, bringing Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) and his army of Parademons through. They battle the Amazons to seize the Box, but Hippolyta grabs it and runs out as the Amazons sacrifice themselves to seal the temple and bring it crumbling down off the edge of a cliff.
Zack Snyder's Justice League, often referred to as the "Snyder Cut", is the 2021 director's cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League. It presents Justice League, the fifth film of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and the sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as director Zack Snyder intended it before he left the production. Like the theatrical release, Zack Snyder's Justice League follows the DC Comics Justice League. Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and the Flash (Ezra Miller), as they attempt to save the world from the catastrophic threat of Darkseid (Ray Porter), Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), and their army of Parademons.
Justice League, released by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2017, suffered a difficult production. Its script underwent major changes before and during production between 2016 and 2017. In May 2017, Snyder stepped down during post-production due to personal issues, and Joss Whedon was hired to finish the film, completing it as an uncredited director. Whedon oversaw reshoots and other changes that incorporated a brighter tone and more humor, and reduced the runtime significantly in accordance with a mandate from Warner Bros.

What?? It's good but it's not a better movie. Even Joker and Batman were way better movies than this and those were solo, almost indie style projects.
I hate how in the Whedon cut, they trimmed this scene down to just "Hippolota gets box, Amazons seal cage, sends box on its way, Steppenwolf cuts his way out, continues his pursuit". There was ZERO tension being done that way. But here, it's "Hippolota gets box, fights Parademon that's on her ass WHILE Amazons seal cage, shots geld longer to emphasize struggle, cage sealed, falls into sea, Amazons dead, sends box on its way, lamenting loss of fallen sisters, Steppenwolf erupts from water to continue pursuit". On paper, that does sound more convoluted, but the execution gave this scene more weight.

Another sad truth is the fact Zack was already cutting up the duration up to 3 hours for the theatrical release. Basically we could've gotten a shorter version of this movie with the other Steppenwolf in the theater and we would only complain how we wanted the longer version and how Steppenwolf theatrical design was so bad. Instead WB decided to butcher the movie more than that

Seal it, but dont worry about the giant hole in the top, or if it crumbles apart after it collapses... amazing writers and editors always seem to miss these kind of details.
Water would've flowed in through the hole anyways making that a terrible exit.

Well, in a manner of thinking-order-design (I don't know the better word for it), they only have one big door with a long hallway to the exit. Steppenwolf was already desperate enough with his mission to regain Darkseid's permission to go home, to strategize how to grab it sooner when the Mother Box was so close to him would not be his first thought, so he wouldn't be noticing the big terraced ventilation right above him plus the amazonians had already piled up on him so even if he did notice the big ventilation on top it would still be at the last second. Plus, amazonians unlike the ones in Josstice League didn't know Steppenwolf nor did they know if Apokolipians could swim well or breath underwater to know that he could still break out there underwater while the rest of them are drowning

What is the point of those vault doors when your enemy can teleport?
Getting a boom tube--not quite teleportation--fixed takes some effort, if I recall. If you haven't seen the whole movie, the second part of this edit will show you what Steppenwolf does next, since he can't fix the boom tube on his position immediately.

The last time they fought the New Gods, they came via spaceships, not Boom Tubes. Thus implying that Boom Tubes weren’t yet invented by the New Gods at that time, hence why Darkseid never used them in the first invasion, and hence also why the Amazonian were ill equipped for an enemy with teleportation

Quite unclear now why DC Comics does show two quite different views of Hippolyta leaving temple with tesseract. Originally she starts running and the X is carved out by SW, and they run and use horses, next scenes. In THIS version you see the entire TEMPLE falling into the waters below . cut scene. During this battle while supposedly locking down the Mother Box chamber everyone seemed to forget that there is a gigantic hole in the roof. They showed it at the beginning of the movie. Lol. Still better than Whedon’s movie but I had to point this out. Kind of a mistake I think.
mistake? Because you said it is? They couldn't know who might be coming for the box or from where, and they couldn't know that whoever tried to grab the box would be able to jump that high.
