Only in such cases that the lady decided to marry someone else and later on at some point they get divorced or the husband died. In such case, she can remarry her ex-husband. It was a protection given so that men don’t make it a game of divorcing and remarrying their wives. It is Haram and not-permissible to have a nikah with a plan to divorce. There is no such thing as halala in islam. It’s a later abuse introduced by society, specially men, for their benefit.

It was a protection given so that men don’t make it a game of divorcing and remarrying their wives.
It is Haram and not-permissible to have a nikah with a plan to divorce. There is no such thing as halala in islam.
