As a self proclaimed NBA historian, it’s interesting to see how teams valued, or devalued, draft picks in the 2010’s. Teams who traded handfuls of picks can rarely say they won their end of the trade, whether for vets or active players.
Not worth trading a lot of picks unless you get a super star/ fringe superstar for at least 3-4 seasonsn
As a acclaimed NBA Historian Historian, it’s interesting to see how nba historians viewed how teams valued, or devalued NBA draft picks
This isn’t as bad as old nba trades they’d trade legends for 3 half decent role players and a 2nd look up who Kareem was traded for or Rodman to the Spurs
honestly i would say say the kawhi trade for the spurs is at the very least a B+. kawhi was more than ready to just walk out of the franchise without a trade, but the spurs managed to at least get something in return, while there were other packages that in hindsight seem more intriguing like the rumored package of ingram, lonzo, and hart. the spurs were still looking to compete and decided to take the package of derozan and poeltl and run with them and lamarcus to push for the playoffs. they would realize a bit late that they’d need to pull the plug and reset but they ended up drafting keldon with the pick they got in the trade, flipped derozan (who also could’ve walked out but he respected pop and the franchise so much he allowed them to trade him) for that FRP and some assets who they flipped again for some SRPs currently.
not to mention they managed to flip poeltl for the #8 pick this year and 2 SRPs
and if the keldon trade rumors are true, the trade tree for the spurs just keeps growing.
It's hard to justify a B+ when they haven't even been competitive for 6 straight seasons now. And if they don't luck out & land Wembanyama, they'd still be a lottery team for 5 more years.
The worst trades are the ones for players who are about to become free agents, especially when you give up young players or first round picks
Expect the Raptors for Kawhi but you are absolutely right. Total anomaly
the knicks didnt “decide” to make that trade, they were forced to. Carmelo stated that if the knicks did not trade for him , that during free agency he would not sign with the knicks, but with the nets. so they were forced to get him and give up a ton of assets.
Trader Danny is a legend. Miss him in Boston even though we have the EOTY. The future is bright in Utah simply because they have Ainge.
Agreed, but Brad Stevens has made some incredible moves for the C’s!!
Go all in and do greatest trades of all time.
The Ainge Nets trade is up there, as is the Auerbach (if I'm not mistaken) trade for Bird.
Crazy how the Celtics lost 15 years of contention because they had two legendary talents that passed in their early 20s. If that hadn't happened, it's possible that the only period in time where they weren't a great team would be the literal first years they came into existence in the 40s. Unreal.
These videos are amazing

Loving the content lately
I gotta think maybe the Lakers came correct with their offer for Davis after lowballing the Spurs caused them to miss out on Leonard. The Lakers offer for Leonard was like Ball, Kuzma, Hart, and Luol Deng's contract, pretty easy to see why the Spurs turned that down. Clippers offer was Tobias Harris and a draft pick (not the one they used to get SGA). And then no one else was offering anything decent since Leonard said he would walk next summer if he wasn't traded to an LA team. Personally I wanted the Spurs to just sit him for the season since he already sat out the previous season, but probably good that didn't happen since that trade is why the Spurs have Keldon Johnson, the #8 pick this year from Toronto (from trading Jakob Poeltl back to them), and the 2015 Chicago pick (top 10 protected, from trading them DeRozan).
loving the content, keep it up 😀
Spurs had to trade kawhi but they could have got a bit more like maybe a young player or additional pick
Another thing about the Boston Brooklyn 2013 trade.. when the celtics traded down for Tatum in 2017, they also acquired a 2019 1st to draft Romeo Langford. He was eventually sent to san antonio in a package for Derek White. So technically they got Brown, Tatum AND White all from that trade
16:08 they did win it
Matt what is the background music you’ve got in this video? I vibe with it
Can u make another video on trades on the 20s so far like the harden trades the kyrie trade the durant trade and more?
BKN Nets really built two Championship teams in Boston and Dallas. Houston may be up next.
Breaking: Dan Hurley decline’s Lakers offer to return to UConn!!
Cole Ald-Rich, not -Rick
As a Thunder fan I already know which trade is on there……..😢😢😢😢
Nothing gets views quite like the 2013 Brooklyn Nets trade
Wild that the Lakers missed out on both Jaylen Brown and Tatum by one pick.
Idk if missed out is the term they straight up passed on them not like they were unable to get those players
Rebuild the pacers with Pg
Cp3 should have gone for a lot more..
How the hell can anybody say the Cavs won the first trade
Meanwhile the Sixers and Lakers both flopped their own picks
Can you do the Spurs trade where they traded away Dejounte Murray for 4 FRPs? and got Wemby. While Atlanta is now trying to trade DJ. Everybody thought Atlanta finessed the Spurs but it was the other way around.
Markel fults trade
Evil Markelle Fultz
Hero Markelle Fultz
Nets made two different franchise-destroying trades in ten years 🤦🏽 worst franchise in basketball
If the Az Cardinals didn’t exist I’d say worst out of all sports… but even then they still might be 😂😂
Melo was overrated in NYC
Jesus Loves you
my Knicks ohhhh the pain lol
