Wow, I had this quite a few times and I couldn't find out how to do it. It's ridiculous and frustrating that seemingly simple things like that are still unintuitive af in Blender. Thanks a lot man!
0:46 Reset a pose you made in pose mode: Alt + G + R + S Alt + G: Reset Position Alt + R: Reset Rotation Alt + S: Reset Scale (Altho Alt + G + R works for my Floatzel's tail) 1:32 Set current pose as the default pose in edit mode (Make sure that you are in Object mode first!) Old comment: Alt + G Not working, v3.4.1 It says: Bone Groups: Assign to new group Fixed: I pressed Ctrl instead of alt. My bad XD
Omg you sir are a scholar and a gentleman haha! Thank you so much. This is amazing help. This really helps to have created models changed to a A-Pose, T-Pose on default, so you can then have your character in that main standard pose. Thank you so much for doing a video on this, that was so great!
FINALY, someone explained it like it is. I made this steppers so that any bozo (including me) can do it: 1) select mesh 2) go to modifiers tab 3) dropdown and select duplicate to get weird look 4) hit the same dropdown for the first modifier (the original one) and apply it 5) then select rig and go to pose mode 6) press A, then CTRL + A, and Apply selected as Rest Pose
Great video! I was trying to make my own model into a game but every tutorial I came across either didn't explain anything important in details or explaining too much just for a few steps. This literally solves my problem. Thanks.
This is a great tutorial, but there is one major issue, you can't apply an armature that has shape keys. A solution that I've found for this problem, if anyone encounters it, is to first enter the edit mode for your mesh, toggle X-Rey so that you can select all the parts you're wanting to modify the pose for, while not including the parts with the shape keys, and then hit P to separate the two meshes. For instance, let's say you have shape keys for the face, and are trying to modify the pose for the arms and legs, just select the parts you're going to change and leave the head alone. Once separated, delete the armature modifier for the mesh that has the shape keys, and delete all of the shape keys for the mesh you're going to change the pose for. You should now be able to save the armature and continue with the tutorial. If all of the steps were followed correctly, then once the new rest pose has been set, merge the two meshes back together with Ctrl+J, it should still be possible to change the pose for the entire mesh, while also having functional shape keys.
Thank you for your tutorial. I have question. is there any wayt to revert rest pose to T-pose or A-Pose? or make T-pose after apply as rest pose.. I'll wait your comment! Thanks!
hi, usually models are rigging in either the T pose, or A pose, if you reset the default pose you can manually pose it to your liking and make that pose the new one.

if the mesh i have associated to the armature is multiple pieces, how do i go about it? also i dont have any armature modifier in my mesh. i'm using the parenting method
Another cheeky question for you. Once you have generated your rigify rig...At the moment I have both the Metarig and Rig now. Do you have to keep the metarig, or can you delete it? Is it needed for future? I'm going to be using my character in a game engine so when I export just wondered if I need the metarig once generated the rig
@@thelastdev I do hide it when not needed as it isn't connected to anything but wondering if it is needed after generated and using the rig. Just wondering if it is needed when exporting out into game engines. I don't think it should be as using the generated rig now and that other first rigify rig isn't doing anything. I have trial deleted it and the generated rig works still... However wondered if it is needed still
What do you do when you import your character and the character is all white and it doesn't have the color it's supposed to have when you imported it from maxiamo
Hello Dale, Enjoying your video on how to rest a character pose. Hoping you can help me. Mark Holloway was trying to help me and sent me to watch this video, what I'm trying to do is creating a character in Make Human (Collada) importing into Blender altered the character and now I'm following your video to keep the pose that I created. For some reason it is not behaving like it does in your video. Your video has one mesh where mine has several hair, clothes, shoes, though I did select all of those, the skin mesh works great but the clothes will not conform like the skin and hair does. how do i get around this? Thanks John.

Really great but what if you have shape keys ? since Blender dosnt let you apply with shape keys

I get an error "Modifier can not be applied to a Mesh with shape Keys"
it's wild that you're the only blender channel that covers this stuff.

Thank you for making this tutorial. So many others require the CATS plugin, but this is such a simple solution that works.
Glad it was helpful!

Yeah this is true, that’s why we have to do shapes keys last
A new issue presents itself if it's a model with a lot of shape keys in different places.
This video has now saved my butt 3 times!!! THANK YOU!!! Epic and useful!! 🔥🔥🔥
this video gonna help out generations after generations xD thanks a lot!
Thanks!!! This tutorial is so helpful!

Many videos watched, first one that actually helped me, thanks!
This is crazy. How did you ever figure it out?
Not successful, I can't apply the first modifier.

re import the textures
Great video. However, when I replicate this, my mesh shifts off my bones. Any ideas? It's just every so slightly offset afterwards.
Try selecting all the mesh’s, then press CTRL+A THEN RESET “scale”
Thank you❤❤❤❤
Life saver Bro. Thank you
Much appreciated
Thanks dude!
when i go back on object mode, the model is no longer T posing
Thankies ♥
