Also, GM had to add new rear windows to the Chevys and Pontiacs, which gave them improved aero on the superspeedways in '86 than the previous year, and some teams still used their 1985 models for the short tracks and road courses. Buick sort of began to downsize in '86 going from the Regal Grand National to the Le Sabre Grand National as well as Oldsmobile from the midsize Cutlass that was run from 1981 through 1985 to the Delta 88 Grand National which was still used through parts of 1988 when the downsized Cutlass returned.

THE PLATE is the only reason Ironhead won as much as he did. I wish no harm to any driver and we all miss Ironhead but if you live by the sword........ Ironhead got a lot of advantages during the early plate era. Fact that is backed by 3 different books.
