- You've probably seen this in movies and TV shows. Now I am going to break it down to you. After many requests here is the Filipino Martial Arts video you all requested. I am showing you a drill called Sinwali and a few basic footwork moves. This is my culture and what I have done my entire life. There are many systems within Eskrima/Arnis, so some striking numbers may vary, but it's all within the same family. Be safe in training. If you are looking to get more in-depth guidance, I have just launched my online training membership called NV Martial Arts Academy. All the details can be found on my website:

I've practiced Kali for 20+ years and am an instructor under Guro Burton Richardson, and I have to say this is an excellent video. Nelita does a great job explaining the various concepts of Sinawali.
Plus is is wonderful to look at. Been doing this for years my self an everything she showed is stuff everyone needs to know. Basics are the most important thing there is. An what is better then watch a beautiful lady that knows what she is talking about.
Kali-Arnis in full flow is the most gorgeous martial arts to watch... Its also probably the deadliest
There is lo kali. Just Arnis or the Visayan Eskrima. Period. Coming from an educated Filipino who doesn‘t believe in made-up narratives.
And the "feloniest".
I love it, but hitting someone with your hand or a stick is the difference between a misdemeanor or a felony, at least here in NY.
I encourage you to find out what the law is where you live, and practice open handed arts As Well 👍
I’ve been trying to get my 10 yr old daughter into martial arts.. shes a gentle child but because shes so gentle I want her to learn to protect herself even more. We are going to learn kali together because why not start with a martial art from our own culture before we move to other ones? Anyway, seeing a beautiful FEMALE teaching with easy to understand content is a very big help to inspire her. You explain things the best so far. Also the heavy bag really helps too! Thank you so much for this video!!
The gentle need to learn to defend themselves the most. I hope you do learn together. There are lessons that transcend fighting and it will be a worthwhile journey.
I put all my kids in boxing first. Ju-Jitsu is another good one for younger kids
They both provide an excellent base to move onto other martial arts.
I might also try Muay Thai first.
After those somewhere in the teens like 16/17 switch to kali
Taking her to a kickboxing gym, she’ll love the classes !!
I would rather have my daughter take private lessons with a firearm instructor where she will learn about gun safety, how to handle, and shoot a hand gun properly and with confidence. I'm also going to buy her a pepper ball launcher for the non-lethal option that will stop any bad guys intentions. Just Google If you don't have any idea what a pepper ball launcher is. Here's the link..(byrna.com/)
As a father we want our kids specially our daughter's to feel confident and safe. This two deference I mentioned will give them the means to deal with any situations without having to get physical and possibly get hurt, injured, or worse. Just saying!!! But, hey I perfectly fine with whatever you decide is best for your kids. 💯💯👍👍😁😁
@@alpha2957 what you're saying makes perfect sense, but if an attack comes from close range or unexpectedly, it would be necessary to know some self defense. There's usually not enough time to deploy the weapon in those sorts of situations. I hope your girl never gets attacked.
Natuklasan ko kamakailan itong TH-cam channel... kahapon : ) Magaling. Kahit na ako ay isang puting bata, Mayroon akong isang maliit na antas ng pag-alam kung ano ang hitsura ng magandang Arnis. Maraming salamat.
I think you are the most beautiful martial arts teacher I've ever seen in my life.
Been training in Filipino fighting for many years. Much appreciation for your skills and teachings. Super cool stuff.....
I like the way you show the correct version and then common mistakes (“what not to do”). Whether I’m teaching kali or English, I always like to compare and contrast it with what my students already know. It makes getting the new material much easier.
Thank you for explaining what it is and breaking down these moves. My cousin, who grew up in the Philippines, showed me how he did "stick fighting" when he was little. I was amazed how fast he was with the sticks. He said he also used to used weighted balls in his hands to strengthen his arms while practicing the techniques. This video takes me back. Thank you so much. Filipino Pride!!
Hey your content is awesome I am learning a lot thank you.
I knew the Philippines had a Martial Arts. Having been station in Japan with Karate, Korea with Tae Kwan Do. and now I know when I was station in Clark Air Base, Philippines in 1991 before Mount Pinatubo Volcano Explosion the Philippines have Sinwali, sincerely thank you . So glad I lived in the Philippines. Now time to share this learning video so many can learn.
I am also Filipina and we learn Arnis in school😊
you just like the top she is wearing
Filipina women are beautiful.

Hadn't done this drill in about 25yrs and had forgotten it, thanks, well done!
Most beautiful seminar about Filipino martial art
Wow! The most gorgeous instructor I have ever seen and she is badass. This is great bc I made my own kali sticks for practice. Thank you for this easy to follow instructions.
thank the you tube algo in sending me here, I love Arnis and having someone with so much charisma just adds to it. Hope to see more Nelita
Beautiful move, have to tell you I have tried to learn this move for years thx for the sinawali for dummies breakdown best of luck!!
This is so cool, and very well taught. I can tell when someone is methodical and smart about teaching because I can understand it.
I love this art. I was in the Philipiines many years ago in the military. I don't know why more Americans didn't try to study this. You are so knowledgable. But you are also so beautiful that it is a bit distracting. I won't mention that again. Just had to let you know. :) I have my 6th Dan in A Japanese Karate system form Okinawa and I live and teach in Japan (Tokyo). I see so much I can learn from you. Much respect.
Love the tutorial! My dad got me a set of Arnis sticks from the Philippines and I want to learn how to use them! I love how you broke down the movements and footwork so it’s easy to follow. I’m a new subscriber! 😁
Salamat po for this tutorial. Makes me remember classes that I took in Hawaii.
Mixing Kali/Arnis with Sikaran Filipino Martial Art is 💯 Legit!

Sikaran student here!!!!
At the front of our lolos house .. sikaran school 🙏👍🏾
Guro Nelita here has about all the trademarks of an FMA teacher: rattan sticks, a repurposed room, deep knowledge explained in the most efficient way possible, and jokes. 10/10
We dig the consistency ! If you can please post more ! Your content is the best!
Yes I will as much as I can. I handle all my accounts and programs myself, so I post as much as I can given the time. There are days I literally spend 12 hours straight at a desk and that does not count the filming time hah. I am trying though.
I myself have trained in Kali, it's been a while, but this helps me remember.
Thank 🙏🏾 you so much for this video! Super helpful for practicing 🥷🏽
You Are Outstanding! I've practiced some form of martial arts for decades. Sinawali is the only thing I couldn't get. I usually have to break technique down intellectually. I have it now thanks to you and will practice until I can do quickly. Embrace the haters as they are confirmation of your gift!
Wow! She should be a action movie star. Very good vid! Salamat.
I've studied Kempo in Japan for 15 years and very familiar with a few weapons. I have taught many people over the years to defend them self's. I am currently 70 years old and in very good shape physically and most importantly mentally. Like you, I am half Black and half Japanese so we have a little in common in being half and half. Concentration is key....get rid of the kiddie music, it takes away from your authentication....Keep it up and God Bless
She is black and Filipino, not Japanese.

I went down a Raya and The Last Dragon rabbit hole and you look just like her! I remember being little and taking my dads drum sticks and pretending to fight with them. It's cool growing up and realizing it's a real fighting style from our culture! (also half filipino) Thank you for sharing this!!
Dinuguan and arnis = soulfood for the pinoys! Awesome tutorial, i haven't picked up my stix in years. Thank you
Thanks for the reminder on sinawali! It's been a while since I picked up the sticks. Had the pleasure of meeting and training (very shortly, unfortunately) with Professor Remy Presas (RIP) many, many years ago and immediately started incorporating what little I learned from him in my classes. It always seemed like students picked up the correlation between stick and open hand motions pretty quickly and that was fun to see. Like the light bulb going on!
Great tutorial, but I would suggest ditching the music. It's a bit distracting and, depending on your position to the mic, can override your voice somewhat.
Beautiful and talented.a deadly combination.
Okay TH-cam, She's skilled, articulates her art well AND she is gorgeous ........I Just Subscribed.😀
.
This is my first lesson....Thank You
I'm thankful your father and mother created you, and it's super cool you're Martial Artist. I took one look at your presentation and pressed the subscribe button, lol😄🇵🇭⚘! Asian women with dark skin are my absolute favorite⚘ I'm definitely going to support your channel😊👍🏿⚘.
Your getting more subscribers im happpy for you cos you really deserve to be known all over the world.
Don't know how this video ended up in my recommendation list but ok, content is well-presented & the instructor delivers her message in a very charismatic way. I think I might give Filipino martial arts a go after watching this since I have Thai 'krabi-krabong' background. I believe that cross-training in other weapons system might help to improve one's own repertoire, yes.
Gorgeous and dangerous...great combination!
Like BBD said "never trust a tight butt and a smile 😃! "
Of all the weird crap TH-cam recommended me to watch, this has got to be thee best one😍
A Filipina with a stick or knife is NOT a woman to trifle with...
great video...you fit a lot of info in a short time frame...
my daughter is 7 1/2.....she’s been training Muay Thai for 3 years, BJJ for 1 year....and i try to show her as much of my 15 years of (mostly) Lameco Eskrima, as possible....
best to you! you’re awesome
Great content, patient and shows the mistakes and how to correct them, very good teacher.
my girl wants to follow in your footstep.. You are definitely a Pinay Pride!
Thank You, for Sharing. You're a Great Instructor !!! Even on a Video. Respect.
I just wanted add that the footwork and turning of the waist is how the power of the strikes are generated.
I love your videos not only because you're beautiful because you do what you do with style Grace flair you have great charisma you know how to use this camera and your videos are lively and entertaining and I've learned a lot from them so I just had to go on record as saying that because it's rare that I ever make comments on your videos so there it is. I'm 52 and I've been practicing martial arts since I was 16 and I still do keeps me healthy and in shape and your videos I've added to my repertoire of different ways of fighting thank you for your video. Take care.
She's breath taking I'm trying to keep my heart um! eyes on the moves😍
Subscribed. Gotta support fellow pinoys.
the whole hiding the martial art part reminds me of capoeira. pretty cool
Capoeira is to Brazil as Kali is to Philippines. Both country have been victim of colonizer's oppression & power abuse. The very reason the art became deceptive as art of dance.
@@shadowlancer45 never been said kali became a dance it is both ancient and modified
@@lumiliyabnaapoy4283 ahh, you sure? Hmm, let me educate you.
Brazil & Philippine's history are alike in some ways. They have been conquered & colonized by foriegn lands & prohibited locals to engage in any form of combat training to avoid uprising & rebellion. Same way what Japan did to okinawans & others. So practice of the fighting art had to be discreet. They did many ways to achieve this. The Filipinoes had enough of their oppression. So one of the ways they devised a plan to outwit them. Everytime there was an event, festivals or any social gathering they always include stick dancing in the show. Little did the conquisidors know the Filipinoes are harnessing or practice their skills in these events. Like capoeira it is a combat in disguise in plain sight. Dude, this info is so old, perhaps some little research wud do.
EXACTLY. Plus the rhythm, and the triangular foot work... very strong co similarity to Capoeira.
It's been many years since I studied Capoeira so I forget the name, but within Capoeira there is stick fighting with very similar sized sticks to these that you use to keep rhythm, hitting them against eachother, the ground, and of course your opponent, disguising the weapon as a musical instrument
Nice vid. It may be slight variances in systems/styles, in Modern Arnis, I've called your complete lesson Double Sinawali. Single Sinawali I think would be your #1,#8,#2,#9 (or "head", "open", "head", "open"). Also I think punyo refers to the butt/pommel of the stick, as opposed to tip.
Siniwali is not a set order of numbers but is an interweaving combination of any numbers. A person can make any pattern they wish and it is siniwali.
Thank you for sharing this Guro/Sensei/Kabayan... i've always been bullied and self defense is vital for confidence and self respect. But Kali is not available in my area , yeah it's ironic since i'm in the Ph and a Filipino... and the covid as well. Pugay to you Guro... Love from the Philippines.
Great work! I have studied Inosanto-Lacoste for 7 years. Now I'm learning Pekiti Tirsia. Hello from Aomori! (in Northern Japan).
I love this vid.
We do a similar fighting style in Trinidad and I was told a story from my mom 2 guys got in a fight for sport and a guy lost an eye.
Does the fighting style have a name?
That was actually well done.
Thanks so much for posting. You are a good teacher.
thank you Nelita to sharing this sinawali, it helped me a lot.
This is nice to see, I’m about to start kali and there’s only videos of men... I’m glad I found a woman that does it :))
I still practice Kali, Arnis, escrima, dumog, and silat, every day. Keep training 360 degrees of angles. So cool that you're hot. Liked and subscribed
Very practical and effective martial art...the sticks could be replaced by other weapsons; fighting art in it's rawest form.
Your content is superb! I've recently began to practice Single and Double Escrima Stick techniques drawn from Kali Arnis, as an aspect of street MMA training as a part of the club that I belong to, Combined Defensive Arts. I come from a boxing background originally. It's a wonderful art form, it ebbs and flows so gracefully, and is as devastating as it is beautiful, but even aside from the practical applications of the art, it is an incredibly enjoyable and relaxing style to practice solo drills in, I sometimes get lost when practising drills, cognition switches to muscle memory and I almost begin to dissociate and flow.
You’re a great teacher and inspiring role model!! Thank you so much for sharing with the world
Thank u vm. Not a practitioner and No idea what siniwali is but i learn it thru your channel. helps in coordination. new subscriber here.
So amazing! Really recommend and she is so down to earth!
I appreciate the clarity of your teaching. You really break it down and explain it well. I will be introducing this in my Dojo. Mabuti, salamat!
Very good explanation and break down, bravo, thanks, salamat
You are gorgeous!!😍 And very skilled!
Half filipino half spanish but im really really proud for having a filipino blood😊🇵🇭❤

This was a very high-level infomrative video! Thank you!
Still the best escrima/ sinwali vid. Yet…….step ya’ game up fellas!
aa a practioner of arnis eskrima at kali it feels great to watch FMA uploads.
what we use to practice our striking are old tyres. boxing bag and kick bag are quite expensive so we improvise.
PUGAY !
For our ancestors‘ sake, leave out that kali crap invented by Villabrille
After 14 years of FMA I find that the numbering system and originator are what differ the most. This was very nice introduction to the style that I finally decided to stay with due to applicability and overall fluidness of the movements. I love knife forms and being able to apply the numbering system to my strikes/ drills when I workout. Being a semi-pacifist I walk away from all confrontation, but like having this knowledge just in case.
You are the best looking Arnis teacher I have ever seen.1
Very cool; have to get my daughter into this for her self-protection.
I have many years of experience, now I am learning and art from Cebu and it is Awesome. I enjoy learning different techniques. Thanks!
Nelita you can beat me up anytime! 😊 lol!
Thank you for sharing Filipino martial in the world! Mabuhay!
The beauty of kali is that they teach you how to handle with weapons first, then all the practical move without it follows..
I'll be faithful if she's my girl. Not just because of her beauty and talent, but she might kill me. lol ^___^
Aloha, thank you, & Salamat po
The reason we dont have our arms out flailing about, is because they lack power. They are not effective strikes. Beginners need to always remember they are still strikes. You don't have your arms out when punching, so why would you with a stick?
Pretty good tutorial Nelita V. I was taught this is really only a warm up method.
This was a great reminder. Funny enough I was going through some of things you taught me last week. This was definitely awesome and a great tutorial!! Keep them coming please!! ❤
Thank you so much. Yes, I will post some other things here. Not too much though because of the paid program online here I will go more in-depth on stuff.
Don't know how I got here, but I'm glad I stayed🙃
I Wanna start this home training to ease the pain in my right arm and all of my muscles...time to reuse my muscle again...time to do aPinoy fist and arnis aerobics excercise...we really need to use our muscles more as we get older ...so im hoping you don a step by step with music to follow like a Zumba.
The back view woulda worked just fine fr!!!! Great video. Lots of videos are either too fast or include a whole myriad of complex flows so it's nice you broke this down to a bite sized beginner friendly tutorial.
excellent video; I was waiting to see if you were going to mention the follow through! I love the "chamber" idea! Good stuff!
Kali is the martial arts the lead character "Jason Bourne" uses in the Bourne Identity movie series. She should have been Wonder Woman.
Awesome ! 👍.
Thanks ! for the valuable training . God bless You 🙏 .

Really cool to see proper footwork. Not many vids do.
Absolutely Inspiring.!! Surely there is. God!!
Eskrima-Kali-Arnis double sticks (doble olisi or doble baston) is usually spelled Sinawali. Haven't heard of Hanna, but the more E-K-A in shows (Green Arrow, Daredevil, Raya next year) the better.
It's awesome to see FMA being represented in TV shows and film. You can see E-K-A being used in Jason Bourne films, the Daniel Craig Bond films, many Marvel films and also in Star Wars. One of the fights in the animated Clone Wars Season 7 was done using motion capture technology and they used an experienced E-K-A fight coordinator to perform the movements. A recent episode of The Mandalorian had Dan Inosanto's daughter Diana Lee Inosanto play the role of the episode's villain and act out her fight scene.
@@francis4856 Oh, that episode of Mandalorian with Diana Lee Inosanto was epic! I, Frankenstein had some great E-K-A battles.*Haven't watched the Clone Wars shows yet, but that sounds cool

My god she's gorgeous. I would luv to see her spar using jkd.
Bruce lee is wingchun practitioner, and Dan inosanto is kali (Filipino martial arts) practitioner,.
Dan inosanto teach bruce lee KALI martial arts,. And bruce lee incorporate KALi in wingchun,. Then thats how JKD was born,.
Great intro! Good explanation, easy to follow your moves. Would love to see more! 🙏 thank you!
I do karate , your video just popped up. Glad it did, new subscriber!
Were you in the stunt staff for Maria? I love that movie. There's an overhead shot in a ladies room with turning footwork angles. Not an expert. It looked like the performers took a partner warmup routine they'd been doing forever because the movements looked great. I know film choreography isn't fighting, but this style looks good on film.
When I was in high school We use tires for practice, you can see how strong the strike by the sound of tire being struck
Don't let the fact that she's really hot distract you from the fact that she's giving a really good instruction in sinawali here. Good details.
