Nice quick. Fun informative review again. As one of those “Disco 3 boys” absolutely think that lack of flat floor is a disaster. Part of my D3s role is occasional van duties carrying furniture etc, not being able to slide something in to the back (stop sniggering) is a huge pain. Carpet isn’t actually a problem for me though, I have a good boot liner a bit like a “hatch bag” one and that keeps the grit out of carpet both floor and seat backs. Lack of flat folding seats and the narrow rear door are killers for me. On the plus side as I can’t afford a defender it makes me feel slightly better.
Full marks for the innuendo ! The carpet on the 130 did not feel as durable as the old Disco 3 carpet which is lasting really well. Land Rover have really not done a good job on the folding seats - they need to hire the engineer that designs the Honda Jazz seats.
My 2011 Disco 4 has lapped Australia a couple of times, have slept in the back of it out of necessity when remote and it has carted, carried and towed all kinds of things. Give it a wash and it is back to luxury Limo like a new Defender 130. I do like the new 130, just too much of a compromise on the practical aspects for me.
Just look's so wrong - boring 'boatish' design. Nothing about it say's 'PRACTICAL' and 'RUGGED' go anywhere vehicle - best use it to pick up the kids from school and pose around town in it. What were the designers thinking ??? What is with those silly little wheels ??? Yes, it looks more like a hearse, and don't forget to wipe your feet before getting in! What is it - £80, £90 or £100K + to buy one of these !! I'll stay with my 2007 Defender double cab thank you!
There is a trick for the 130 to look better, install the side ladder at the end of the roof rack (you hv to do some modification on the mounting side), it will balance the rear proportion. with some rear-end stickers, it will look as great as the 110.

I think your head is in the mud I watch oz stuff a lot, they all use Toyotas to go to cape York or in the outback, never seen one travelling to South Africa either. You can drive a LR into the outback, but you can drive a Toyota back. 🤣🤷🏼

Could you get a look at the 5 seater 130 I'd like to see the boot space in that and it should be flat? Can't be much shorter than the present 110 with the seats down if not the same.
I genuinely got shudders when you said "we've got keyless entry"! I think it's time to put that tech firmly in the bin until they (in particular JLR) can keep a vehicle safe!
The 130 is huge, but lovely! The new Defender definitely looks like the spiritual successor to the Disco 4 because the Disco 5 doesn't do them justice. Shape and styling cues are very similar.
Things can certainly be too fluffy sometimes, Simon. It seems that the rear departure angle could be improved by increasing the amount of lift in the rear shock to the secret extra height.
Yes the air suspension would help but the interesting thing is that they have increased the length but not the wheelbase......I guess this was a cheaper way to do things.
No clear sight rear view mirrors available, component supply problems. It's a bummer but it explains why no front middle seat option. They've withdrawn that option because the clear sight mirror is a legal requirement in the UK if a middle seat is fitted.
The check engine light is an optional feature.... apparently it can be added remotely using SOTA ( software over the air ) to make ownership more engaging and give you the true Land Rover experience.
Looks like they added an LED light in the roof of the rear cargo area. Wish there was one in my 2021 110. Really disappointed with the carpeted rear seats in the 130. Hopefully that becomes an option in the future and they move back to the checkerboard plastic.
I know the clear sight cameras were one of the pretty much unobtanium items when I ordered my 110S. I think I had to go all the way to an xdynamic se before it was even an option I could choose to pay for. I was pretty saddened by that, because that camera was one of the things I loved. Sure hoping I can add that later fairly simply.
I just come across your German brother, he has a TH-cam channel called ( LR Time ) you two need to meet up and rebuild a complete Land Rover, with your two brains together you could redesign the Land Rover. And it would be a great video, and good laugh.

You are right. It does look better proportioned. I really disliked, hated even, the 130 when I first saw it. I like it better from your video than the promotional videos. That said, I would go for the 110 in any case. The 90 is just a bit too small and the luggage area with the seats folded is a bit of a disaster in design (internally) in my opinion. Conversely, and possibly hypocritically, I favour the 90 for its external look. The Discovery 5 (My current vehicle) is also full flat and possible to sleep in.
As usual your review off the cuff highlights the shortfalls instantly. Not as practical or well thought through for the end user. Features omitted or missing altogether. A lot of room for improvement, Simon must be rushing back to his R+D design shop to start on the 130 range of kit that should have been offered by the manufacturer.
Not sure who the target customer is it’s two posh for farmers Etc and it’s two expensive for everyone else no doubt will see some parked outside the school gates 😊

The elephant in the room, which you don't show, is getting into the rear seats. Go to 7:17 in this video: th-cam.com/video/Il4pdXEHpUY/w-d-xo.html Don't know about you, but I don't fancy trying to get in and out of there, especially in a roll-over or crash followed by a fire. Even in everyday use, you are a prisoner in the rear row until someone gets out of the middle row. I can just imagine trying to get a car-sick kid out of the back in time.
Can you ask them when the hi cap or truck cab will be arriving!! All this crap they keep making isn’t any good for the customers who made Land Rover who they are…really disappointed.
Don't think new..... think of the future when it's been up and down a few curbs on the school run, carried the odd load from Waitrose and the owner has moved onto the next must have. It'll be a cracker secondhand!!
Another vehicle designed for a totally different role that a defender of this length should be for. This is a soccer moms car nothing else. That rear area with all the seats down is pointless. Such a bad design. This is clearly aimed at the large well off family for going to sports on Saturdays.
I think you are correct - some people saying the 130 as a 5 seater with a larger boot may be nice.... but I think Land Rover need to sell all the cars they make for $$$$$$$ as they are short of components and so every car they sell needs to be top spec !

I totally missed that - the safari windows are so cool - especially on the 90 !

Interior lighting is poor in the 110 - totally agree and the carpet did not even feel like tough hard wearing carpet.
