That scene w/Bobbie and Laura is great, just great. Wonderful work from Genie Francis.
I love the hominess of the Webbers and friends, watching TV, commenting on the absurdity of the Quartermaines. And the big entry with the Quartermaines, filmed outside the party, their attempts to pretend they don't hate Mitch, it's all so good.
Joe palling around with Jeremy, in a real way, instead of the horrible stilted way with most soaps and kids.
You can see why GH was #1 at this time.

Too bad Anne and Joe didn't marry. Joe would've made a wonderful dad for Jeremy. Jeff was great too, but he was still married .

You are all so right - DA looks stunning in this episode (and yes, nice do!)!
And what's even more amazing for me: this episode was shot only a few weeks before she turned 40 - and this was the 70's, the time before botox and the like... I stand in awe!
And then on the other hand there is Genie Francis, who was not even 18 in these episodes and wow she looks great and her acting talent is so impressive, not only given her young age!
Thanks again so much for posting!

Denise looked 40... 40 is not old. It's mature but it's far from old. She looked like a real womanly woman, still in her prime and not afraid of getting older, not trying to compete with teenagers. The way women tinker with their faces by 28 today, they look freakish and actually make themselves look older.

The election scenes were filmed at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. I never dreamed watching this as a kid I'd one day live in L. A. and dine there. It's been used in many movies. The elevators are famous.

      Interstellar (2014)

True Lies (1994) Arnold Schwarzenegger ride a horse in the elevator !!/:)

I thought Lesley looked lovely here. As a little girl I remember thinking they were an ideal couple, even as a child I loved his line about 1 heart. Now of course as an adult I understand that no ideal couple exists and that his affair and lying about it was anything but ideal but I do believe he truly loved her. Thanks for posting this:)

Does anyone have footage of the first Laura from 1974/75? Her mother, Mrs. Vining, was played by Judy Lewis, the real life daughter of Loretta Young & Clark Gable.

They always killed me....being all up in Laura and Scottie's business and thangs!!! It's fine to care about your child, but they were always having discussions about the two of them. It was almost like they didn't exsist and the relationship was more about the parents than them...

They tried to whitewash the rape and turn it into an "insistence of sex or a seduction" - an argument of defense could be made that he was under severe duress and drunk - that he wasn't thinking straight and became temporarily insane - but it was rape.
The actor Tony Geary and the character Luke became so popular - that the female audience demanded he stay on -
you never saw a rapist "so tender,so sweet so loving, "it played to the human fantasy that evil can change and repent".
It was the show's prerogative , to do it that way, this was an adult program not meant for children and I,like many kids, saw it as a child, some of us had foreign parents , that didn't know what their kids were watching, as an adult you can see ,the stories not realistic.
But , this is acting, this is art,it's make believe , for the time period ,that the writers were on for this Luke and Laura storyline,
especially the Lovers on the Run one, it was a great story and the actors including gifted Anthony Geary and
the other fine actors and amazingly a teenage Genie Francis who projected older and did her best work, she was robbed of an Emmy.

I’m glad that GH revisited the rape in 1998. It put a much more realistic spin on it after the awful “seduction” rewrite.

When Luke said he would never touch her again unless she asked him to, what a Classic line.
In the movie "First Knight" Lancelot {Richard Gere} kissed Lady Guinevere in the woods when he rescued her and she slapped him. He told her he would never kiss her again until she asked him too, and that day finally came when Lady Guinevere Asked Lancelot to kiss her.

I think Denise looked wonderful with straight hair, especially when it wasn't too long. She looked great with curly hair too but for some reason the straight hair, in this color, catches your eye.

Her hair looked bad a little later on, it was terribly unflattering. This hair in this episode REALLY flattered her doll face with those huge irises and delicate face. Her hair in a couple of years or so just would not have looked good on anyone and it really aged her look.

The way they tied the whole thing up neatly, to make it acceptable that Luke remained in her life - was the caveat that he had to, and they had to keep information "secret" in order to escape possible killing of themselves and family members by Frank Smith.. If there was no top secret mob info, then Laura could have eventually told Scotty everything without fear of bodily harm, without fear for Scotty, Lee, even herself and her parents for all she knew... except for the part about not wanting to see Luke go to jail because she had compassion, thinking he did not mean to hurt her, that he was genuinely "sorry" which is not very likely in real life, not very common I don't think. or unrealistic, as one person put it. She knew people would judge her for doubting herself even though she knew it was rape, because in her youthful naivete.. she thought she gave Luke mixed messages or something like that, otherwise she would have named him.

    • @aamanpour3630
      @aamanpour3630 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

This topic is very difficult for me, Idk why I can't resist watching this but it makes me cry as a confused victim of rape. I think Laura was in love with Luke at the time he raped her. That doesn't make it any less rape but it does create confusion in Laura and it seems she's formed a trauma bond to him. The way Laura treated Scotty really didnt seem like a wife who was in love with her husband. She would get all starry eyed around Luke...
I believe a man can be sorry for committing a rape. I think Luke was sorry... I think he was overcome with regret and love for her. But I'm naive and I see good where there may be none. I shouldn't have put this one because I've been crying the past ten minutes. I never sought therapy for my assaults and I'm terrified at the prospect of it but at times like this, I realize I do have PTSD and it's part of my daily struggle and I need help.

@@aamanpour3630 Thank-you for your feedback, I am so sorry for the trauma you yourself have endured:(( I experienced rape also, as a younger person on more than one occasion from a family member, and put it into an amnesia category, with only bits and pieces I recall, but enough to "know, " I can recommend something called EMDR, it helps much more than just traditional talking, I pray you can get the support you need!
