The scenery at this location is absolutely breathtaking and having SP's tunnel motors roaring in run 8 up through the middle of it would've been like stumbling upon heaven on earth.
Southern Pacific was such a great railroad. Also railroad companies were much more fan friendly back then. None of the "security" and "trespassing" crap we have to deal with now.
If I could go back in time and be a hobo for a day, hopping on an SP train in this time period between Bakersfield and Mojave would be where I would've rode the rails.
I have lucky to visited tehachapi in 1998, and saw and heard these engines pulling hard, at this year I knew that all this stuff have the days to go, I live in argentina, and 200 of these emd were to brazil, regauged to 1 meter lines and still making money to brazilian railroads
That third unit looks hideous in that stupid California paint. I just purchased SP 7319 and BOY I love how it sounds! I think that SD45T-2 is next for a modeling project.

Nothing beats an EMD 645e3 engine best sounding locomotive engine ever
What a beautiful sound indeed! Working hard to earn their reputation and doing a damn good job at it!
Of all of the locations in the Tehachapi Mountains, this one probably ranks as my favorite. Great video!

How many ponies are they putting out?
12,000 hp if they are all SD 40Ts. 14,400 if they are SD 45Ts.
