She just has "it" Even when she comes out of her robhs into her twist she literally comes straight UP and not out like most gymnasts. She has, like, springs in her body that just catapult her into another dimension than other gymnasts. Lol
To those saying there isn't much expression here...give her a break, this is her very first competition since the Olympics a full year ago. Id say this is pretty damn good. Her goal here was just to try and keep her nerves under control and get in front of an audience again and she did it well. This is a brand new routine with some brand new passes and the expression and execution will come with time. Great job mckayla :)
This is gymnastics not ballet. Not sure what you are looking for. This was the first time she has ever performed this routine in competition and with new passes. The dance value parts were executed well. It was great IMO.
She is a wonderful dancer! She's the best dancer on the American team, and she's a much better dancer then most in the world she's very artistic! She just looks a little tired here it's her first meet back after time off and MANY injuries and her tumbling is fantastic! She added new passes that were more difficult and on top of that a new choreographed routine! Cut her some slack she's probably just tired, her endurance will build up throughout the season. She just needs to re-gain her stamina
three and a hald twists, it was her first pass in 2011 and 2012 but she doesn't compete it any more. In 2012 she was the only person in the world who could do this
Amazing! Looks like she has gotten a bit taller and bigger (in a good and normal way don't get me wrong!!) and I think it is helping her! She seems even more powerful and solid on the floor than she used to. I did not expect a double layout!
I was wondering if a double layout is worth more points than a 3.5 twist? It was just amazing to watch her twist in the air .. wondering why she took it out.
Yep and she said she has not current plans to perform it again in an interview. The double layout she added is the same value and less room for execution and landing errors once she is used to it. IMO
since its so early in the competing world alot of gymnasts dont do the hard skills till nationals or even next year. the olympics just happened everyone is taking is slow to not risk injury. i hope she puts it back in tho.
There's a few reasons why she may have taken out the 3.5; 1) she doesn't need to compete such a difficult trick at this Classic, mostly because she's already qualified for Nationals...it was a meet to get her foot back into the swing of things before she competes at championships. 2) because of the time she took off from training, she may not be ready to compete her 3.5 anymore
Very true, but there is less risk of injury with the double layout. There is no need to risk getting hurt with under or over rotation, if she's trying for 2016.
What confuses me is that the last few years she's done a 3.5... meaning she's clearly a good twister. Yet she has elected to use more flipping elements for this floor routine. Why isn't she doing a triple somewhere, maybe at the end?
I'm glad that she took out the 3.5... She rarely landed it super well. The double lay is the same value anyways. I think if she goes back to adding a full twist at the end of her 2.5 and dismounts with a triple, her floor will be perfect. This is the Classic, so it's just an acid test for the girls anyways. Can't wait for championships!
i'm pretty sure she is trying to eliminate the landing errors by dancing out of her skills and in my opinion it looks better than presenting out of every skill....and i also saw a huge salute out of her double arabian and double pike...
i think it's her concentrating. remember it's only classics.. she basically only had to prove to marta she's there with a routine that's doable. for a first meet back i think the routine was great and the flourishes come with more confidence.
Imho .. I still prefer her previous floor routine, so much more elegant and captivating. But I'm sure this will grow on me. Ps. The fact that the 2layout is = to a 3.5 twist is silly who else has successfully done a 3.5 besides her, it should b higher value.
That doesn't mean that it's just as hard. More people have competed the double layout than the 7/2 Not to mention that the double double and the double layout full in are rated to same but most would say that the layout full in is harder.
the only way her SV would increase would be by having the 3.5 replacing her double arabian or her double pike and there is no way she (or any other female) could do the 3.5 as a 3rd or 4th pass consistently without having major deductions on it the 0.1 or 0.2 would be eradicated in the extra deductions
It's easier for some. Nastia could never do double backs let alone layed out. Twisting is harder for others but they were relatively easy for Nastia. Of course McKayla can do do it all!
i always used to think the same thing. Before it was because she sometimes under rotated her 3.5 but I for sure thought she would have added the triple in instead of the double arabian
I hate to break it to you but I competed in back in 1999. I was one of the first females to compete a triple and I competed a 3.5 twice. They weren't very common and hard for a lot of girls but I'm sure there's a lot more girls than you think that compete it :)
I don’t understand why people don’t like her music I personally love it
She just has "it" Even when she comes out of her robhs into her twist she literally comes straight UP and not out like most gymnasts. She has, like, springs in her body that just catapult her into another dimension than other gymnasts. Lol
when she stuck her third pass...that was a beautiful routine!
I love how in the 2 1/2 punch front layout, she does her round off and just soars up. her power amazes me.
She's so awesome! :D That stuck landing on her third pass was AMAZING!!! Her choreography is incredible, too.
LOVE LOVE LOVE her new floor routine. and that 3rd pass was amazing!
When she stuck her 3rd pass...You could tell she was having a lot of fun out there and her routine's fantastic!
To those saying there isn't much expression here...give her a break, this is her very first competition since the Olympics a full year ago. Id say this is pretty damn good. stuck 3rd pass was a beauty! she really is amazing on floor, this choreography really suits her!
Makayla maroney is so solid on her landings she's awsome

This is without a doubt one of her best floors!!
I love her new music! And this routine is great.
Graceful , gorgeous and courageous .
I literally crying-cheering-laughing-and feeling sooo happy for her. :)
she's always got great floor music!
1:07 little girl rockin' out.
Maravilhosa 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
She added a double layout to her routine.
But I guess she took the three and a half out.
Beautiful routine! I hope she makes it to worlds.
Nice.. miss the 3.5 though.. it was so unique and breathtaking!!
The way I've been waiting to watch this floor routine.... Here's goes!
three and a hald twists, it was her first pass in 2011 and 2012 but she doesn't compete it any more. In 2012 she was the only person in the world who could do this
Love the new routine and what a great comeback!
Amazing! Looks like she has gotten a bit taller and bigger (in a good and normal way don't get me wrong!!) and I think it is helping her! She seems even more powerful and solid on the floor than she used to. I did not expect a double layout!

Monica P she fell before a competition and got hurt
Love her music !
she seriously slayed this one
wow!! I love her new floor routine.
what's the name of the leap she does at 1:32? I've been referring to it as a tour jete 1/1 ring thing. haha
I'm really glad she chose not to take such a long break and get back into gymnastics this quickly :)
i hope she can get her difficulty up to at least a 6.0 so she's competitive for a worlds FX final.
Anyone know the name of the first piece of music before the change of tempo?
The cutest gymnast I have ever seen
I miss her! Where has she gone?? I wouldlove to see her get to Rio!
How amazing would it be if she could replace her double pike with her 3.5!!?!
She's had a ton of health issues and injuries and such
So sad! I loved her gymnastics!
I LUV, LUV McKayla!!
this may be a dumb question, but why is there a pad in that one corner?
leap at 1:32 is the ferrari... named after vanessa ferrari of italy. performed last london olympics
You definitely see McKayla's sass in her routine. :)
Does anyone know what her start value is?
Great double arabian.. Not sure how I feel about this new choreo though, I still miss her "Those were the Days" routine sometimes.
Rocked it girl!
The little girl in the blue shirt in the audience dancing at 1:08 when the tempo picks up is too cute!
love the choreography after the third tumbling pass
Yep and she said she has not current plans to perform it again in an interview. The double layout she added is the same value and less room for execution and landing errors once she is used to it. IMO
awesome and beautiful!! I love mckayla!!!!! :D :D :D :D
The 3rd and 4th passes were phenomenal.
since its so early in the competing world alot of gymnasts dont do the hard skills till nationals or even next year. the olympics just happened everyone is taking is slow to not risk injury. i hope she puts it back in tho.
was this routine a bit underscored??
anyone know the music at 0:47?
She is awesome
Music?
Bruch Violin Concerto
Did she take the 3.5 out?
There's a few reasons why she may have taken out the 3.5;
1) she doesn't need to compete such a difficult trick at this Classic, mostly because she's already qualified for Nationals...it was a meet to get her foot back into the swing of things before she competes at championships.
2) because of the time she took off from training, she may not be ready to compete her 3.5 anymore
0:35 OMG That was so high! that is the power from the best vaulter in the world !
Wow that was great!
Very true, but there is less risk of injury with the double layout. There is no need to risk getting hurt with under or over rotation, if she's trying for 2016.

whats a 3.5 ?

How I miss her old routine :(
I was there!
She's doing really good forher comeback!! But I like the old routine better because of the 3 1/2 twist!
Happy to see she upgraded her floor routine :D
She killed it! :D
girl in the blue dancing in the back at 1:06 lol
anyone else noticed the little girl dancing in the crowd?
She looks great doing this rountine!
She is amazing , I wish i could do half the stuff she can.
i'm pretty sure she is trying to eliminate the landing errors by dancing out of her skills and in my opinion it looks better than presenting out of every skill....and i also saw a huge salute out of her double arabian and double pike...
i think it's her concentrating. remember it's only classics.. she basically only had to prove to marta she's there with a routine that's doable. for a first meet back i think the routine was great and the flourishes come with more confidence.
Kyla on the the other hand seems more comfortable with variations of the double back. She didn't have any layed out twisting variations in her set.
It's a split leap with a full twist to ring position or a Ferrari. It's a D.
why isn't Katelyn ohashi here?
I want the 3 and a half back... =( Still a fabulous routine though! I'm so glad she's back, and healthy and stuff!
For this meet....not sure about others in the future. She's was just 'warming up' at this meet.
yes, probably because it wasn't very consistent for her. she replaced it with the double layout since they're worth the same
pretty good!
I died laughing at that part!
Wow!!
She is looking great! That is a pretty good floor for her.
I believe it's Siegunerweisen by the composer Sarasate.
Yes, but the double layout is the same value (and easier!!!)
Imho .. I still prefer her previous floor routine, so much more elegant and captivating. But I'm sure this will grow on me. Ps. The fact that the 2layout is = to a 3.5 twist is silly who else has successfully done a 3.5 besides her, it should b higher value.

Weird that she's not competing at least a triple, given her talent for twisting.
I think she said in an interview that she had no intentions on competing the 3.5 anymore. I'm not sure though, so don't hold that to me. :)
She really needs to bring back the 3.5 twist and get rid of that freaking double pike ASAP!
the only way her SV would increase would be by having the 3.5 replacing her double arabian or her double pike and there is no way she (or any other female) could do the 3.5 as a 3rd or 4th pass consistently without having major deductions on it the 0.1 or 0.2 would be eradicated in the extra deductions
wow applause by lady gaga fits with this so well
I prefered her 3.5 twist instead of the double layout...
According to people there, she was nearly sticking it in the warm up. I think the adrenalin just kicked in here.
@Jodavitow LOL that's what I was focusing at the whole performance
It's easier for some. Nastia could never do double backs let alone layed out. Twisting is harder for others but they were relatively easy for Nastia. Of course McKayla can do do it all!
I miss the 3.5... Maybe if she put it in place the 2.5+1/1 and put that in place of the double pike
i always used to think the same thing.
I can't believe that a 3.5 and a double layout have the same value. One of the very many skill values in the COP that doesn't make sense to me :(
Perhaps she will make her second pass a 3.5 to the front lay out with a connection bonus
Hm... She executed the 3.5 better than the double layout and they're both f... Why did she change that? Plus doing a 3.5 makes u stand out
