I lived in Malibu 15 years. Besides the celebrities who live here in the summer, most people are super down to earth and good people. I know the world thinks “Malibu” and thinks everyone is rich , that’s not the case. Many hardworking normal people live there. I moved 2 towns away but still have many beloved friends there and I’m praying for them all. I have one staying with me until Topanga Canyon is cleared of danger .
I truly feel for them. And yes, THEY can replace their stuff. But the average person/family who loses their home to natural disaster CANNOT afford to replace their homes. Let's all remember that when we see people going through this or any housing crisis. Housing is now a luxury.
Exxon lit the match that is burning down these homes by spending billions for disinformation campaigns to convince us that pumping 40 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere wouldn’t destroy our climate. But hey, so long as corporate executives can make millions in blood money, who cares how many Americans lose their homes to climate change. Exxon stockholders are making bank, so who cares how many Americans they kill.
Malibu is 27 miles long and about 5 miles wide. It has 2 major fault lines - one that runs along PCH and another that runs along the coast. It used to be home to the Chumash Indians until the white man pushed them out. The name "Malibu" comes from the Chumash word "Umaliwu" which means "the sound of the water (ocean) slapping against the rocks. Malibu is frequently plagued by fires and natural disaster. Mama Earth is gonna do what she is gonna do. No one of any material wealth can overcome her. She is equally wrath full to all - indigenous or not.

Like BobbieCat said earlier, not all Malibu residents are wealthy. There are apartment buildings and trailer homes as well. I have lived nearby for 18 years and have been to malibu many times. It has grown a lot in the last decade, commercially.
I can't feel bad for the super wealthy. People dying on the streets and you got someone in an 86 million dollar house. Its despicable and disgusting. I do thank the firefighters for risking their lives doing what they do. They are the real heroes.
