    Quick question. The files that you had on the floppy what version of Windows were those files from? I have found some floppy disk that were used around the time of millennium edition or possibly XP. When I try to recover those files if I buy a floppy drive should I easily be able to transfer those files onto Windows 10? I've heard that some of the floppy drives will allow you to record new data, but were unable to read old data.I have some old photos on floppy that I would like to recover so I'm trying to find a good USB floppy drive for Windows 10 64-bit version.

    This s a 3.5" diskette drive! Diskette not floppy. Now, they may be calling it a floppy but its predecessor was a 5-1/4" floppy drive and it was floppy, and its predecessor was an 8" floppy drive and it was ridiculously floppy. You can call it what you want but it is a diskette drive. I have one of these USB diskette drives and it works reading some old BASIC executables and program files. Why not transfer the data just using LAN? Faster, more reliable and cheaper. The only reason to use an USB drive is to copy files to a computer that cannot easily access any network, such as really old computer (i.e. Commodore 64 era and etc).

    • @TechTVusa
      @TechTVusa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WTF dude? A router, hub and cables would be more than $7.99. That is what I paid for my USB floppy drive. They have gone up in price to about $17.00. Even the USB wi-fi blue tooth adapters would be more than $7.99 and you would need one for each computer. It is handy to have the USB floppy drive if you need to get a word document off and old computer from 1993 with a floppy drive. It would also be foolish to buy networking hardware for an old computer when you just need to get a spreed sheet or word document. Having said that you should be able to realize I bought it as a novelty item. Your comment would be like asking someone why they bought a used Apple 2 computer on ebay in 2023 when they could get a new i9 13900K and an RTX 3080 that would be much faster than an Apple 2 computer. Do you see my point?

    • @kobe3576
      @kobe3576 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechTVusa Everyone has a router at their home nowadays, and you don't need a switch nor a bluetooth USB adapter. As long as your old PC has integrated LAN into the motherboard (quite common in the late 90s or early 2000s), you ONLY need one ethernet cable that costs 5 bucks or less. Add 5 to 10 bucks for a PCI LAN adapter in case your old PC doesn't have integrated one. An usb floppy drive + disks will cost already more than that. Other than the 1-time novelty experience, there is no point in using your setup for this use case. The only use is if you need to create a boot disk or something similar.
      The comparison with an Apple 2 doesn't make sense because what you do with an Apple 2 and with a modern PC are different things, while with your floppy drive and the LAN cable method is the same goal, but your floppy drive is more expensive, less reliable, much slower and more cumbersome.

      How old are you? When did you build your first PC?
      I originally got the USB floppy drive as a novelty item. I don't actually have to get any old MS Word documents of an old PC. Having said that I did not have a router, hub Wi-FI or any networking devices at the time I made this video (don't make assumptions). I did get USB Blue Tooth/Wi-Fi adapters since making the video but I did not get one for my old Pentium 2 computer because it is USB 1 not USB 2. The USB 1 would be a bottle neck for my Wi-FI setup and I am not going to run CAT 5 or CAT 6 cables through my house or apartment and invest in a PCI networking card just to get an old MS Word document. My Pentium 2 computer does not have a networking port. Your solution is more expensive than $7.99 and is a pain in the ass just to get an old MS Word document from a 1993 computer. Keep in mind I am not trying to surf the internet in 2023 with a PC from 1993 or 1999.
      A lot of computers from 1989 or 1993 did not have ethernet ports, PCI slots nor did they have USB ports.Have you heard of an ISA expansion slot? An Apple 2 computer would not have PCI slots or USB ports. It would have a floppy drive. Most computers in the 1980s and 1990s had a floppy drives and with my USB floppy drive I can easily share data with older PCs. Do you see my point? I should let you know I have about 50 floppy disks. So do many people with old PC from 1988 or even 1999. I hope you can admit your response had a lot incorrect information and the USB floppy drive is the easiest option do get an old MS Word document from and old Mac or an old PC.

    • @kobe3576
      @kobe3576 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechTVusa Please, don't change what I said. I said that computers in the **late 90s early 2000s** already had in many cases integrated LAN cards, besides USB port/s. Why you talk now about 1989 or 1993? Never in your vid was mentioned computers from 1989 or 1993, but only a Pentium III machine. It doesn't make any sense to use a floppy disk to transfer from a Windows 10 machine to a Pentium 3, were you can use already an USB stick. If you have a USB bluetooth adapter, why not just use a damn USB stick instead of a floppy disk? You see that it doesn't make any sense?
      Even you can easily find Win 95 Pentium 1 PCs already with USBs. And setting up a LAN is a hassle if you don't know well how to do it. And FYI, LAN didn't exist to browse internet but to exchange data among computers (hence the name LOCAL area network), so using LAN is a natural way to do this thing.
      Now that you mention Apple 2, Macintosh, earlier computers and ISA slots, you don't know what serial connection is? Most, if not ALL computers from the 70s all the way to early 2000 and even more have serial connectivity at least. You can find USB to Serial cables off amazon for 5 bucks if not less. That is the only thing you need to transfer files faster, easily and without chance of errors. And besides as you yourself mention in your video, many of these older computers use different disk formats that are not supported by most of the USB disk drives. Can your usb drive properly format 640Kb, 800Kb, 1.2 Mb or 1Mb disks, just to mention a few? Can it? Those are common formats used by early computers. And yes, many people have floppy disks, but also many people do not have them, so what is your point with that? My response didn't have any incorrect information, but your message lacked knowledge and was misleading.

    • @TechTVusa
      @TechTVusa  ปีที่แล้ว

      @kobe3576
      How old are you? When did you build your first computer? I know what LAN stands for Boo Boo. Have you heard of the LX and BX chipset? If not stop arguing with me. Having said that why not educate yourself and listen to what I am saying instead of arguing with me and looking foolish in the process?
      The good motherboards in 1998 and even 2002 did not have Ethernet ports on the I/O shield. They did have floppy drive ports. Do you see my point? By 2006 a lot of motherboards had an integrated Ethernet and integrated audio. I don't like that. I would rather buy a separate PCI card for that.
      USB started being sold on motherboards in 1998 when USB 1.1 was released but a lot of motherboard in 1998 did not have USB 1.1 ports. No system from 1995 had USB 1.0 ports because it was not released until 1996. The first release of Windows 95 did not have USB support. Later editions of Windows 95 did get USB support and even Firewire support. Trust me I was building computers back then.
      Do you know how to delete the master boot record? If not you should not be arguing with me.
      Apple COM ports? You mentioned PCI LAN cards Boo Boo not me. Now you are talking about COM ports because you messed up. Why would I buy a COM port to USB adapter when the older Apple computer in the 80s and 90s had floppy drives? You are not making any sense. Not to mention Apple's OS 4 and even OS 5 would not have support for USB. Nor would it support AGP or PCIE. Do you see my point Boo Boo? As I stated the original release of Windows 95 did not have support for USB or Firewre.
      Computers in 1988 and 2003 supported the 1.44 MB floppy disks. I used them all the time at college to transfer word documents from the computers on campus to my own PC. Do you now see the power of the floppy drive? That is what people used back in 1988 and even in 2003. In 2003 USB jump drives started to become popular. Just so you know USB 1.0 and USB 1.1 have slow read and write speeds.
      Can you admit your comments had a lot of incorrect information?
