      Hey John, I got a 01 cr250 with a 265 big bore and the keihin , I run motul 800 , I have v force reeds and gnarly pipe and turbine core 2. I'm at sea level running 175, 48, 3rd clip , I'm getting a lot of spooge coming out the pipe not just the usual amount like leaking down to swing arm amount I was thinking about going down to a 45 what do you think

    • @Fixyourdirtbike
      @Fixyourdirtbike  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a question and please don't be offended. Are you really heavy? I'm very heavy, and I've ALWAYS had excess oil out of the pipe on EVERY 2 stroke I've owned. Do you see any other indicators that your running rich?

    • @josephkampsnider5564
      @josephkampsnider5564 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No bro 175 , I never had an excessive amount of oil until I switched to the motul 800 the bikes set up.for woods and has woods pipe so it does fall flat at the top of the power in 2nd gear but that's to be expected it runs great just lots of oil

    Man, The videos are fabulous. They save me so much time and they are very entertaining - Thanks.
    I recently bought a 2002 KX 250 that the seller had “done a bunch of work on” and snuk on to a MX track with his buddy to test it. He went over a jump and at the bottom the owner was installing a drain pipe and he slammed into it. When he got out of the hospital he put it up for sale and I bought it with a crumpled front wheel. I replaced the wheel and will likely have the shock stanchions straightened to solve that problem.
    When I cranked it up to run the gas out for the winter, it idled a little high when cold but as it warmed up the idle became extremely fast. I estimate about 5000 to 6000 rpm. It was so fast that the kill switch did not want to stop it
    I suspect that happened to the last rider and he just did not bother to mention it to me. I think it is probably an air leak somewhere in the system but I haven’t worked on bikes since the late 1970s. What would you suggest that I check as possible problem areas?
    David Floyd

    • @Fixyourdirtbike
      @Fixyourdirtbike  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Floyd Thanks! I would check the jetting, and if you have a throttle stop screw, make sure it lets the slide fully close first. When your revs take off it's due to a surge of oxygen.

    • @davidfloyd9962
      @davidfloyd9962 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your insight. 1. I will check the throttle slide to verify that it closes all the way and fits well enough to rule out unmetered air. 2. Take the carb apart and check the jets for correct numbers versus stock. Is that the recommendation? Thanks, DCF

    Great video! I fixed my bike thanks to you.
    I wanted to compliment you on how efficient this video was. Most "how to" videos are slow and the narrator rambles on for days. You spit out the information quickly and stuck to the pertinent information.

    I'm surprised that putting the stock Reed cage back on didn't fix the problem. But I just thought I should let you know hopefully you can get back to me and give me some kind of tip that would help I will say that the mid-range top-end power is a lot better now that I put the Needle in the second clip position. And I cleaned out the passageways but aside from that it's still has no bottom end at all it bogs out at the bottom when you were riding when you're honest and it performs completely normal aside from the fact that it doesn't idle which is so strange it revs up high comes down normal I don't know what's going on

      Jumping back in here real quick to ask a question. After rebuilding bike top to bottom, I noticed my carburetor intermittently dumps fuel from the overflow hose. At one point it just poured out with the bike sitting still as i filled the gas tank, and it now drips from it but pours when leaning the bike after adjusting the floats a little. I have tried adjusting the floats around to see what helps and the flowing still happens and the bike idles higher now which I’m assuming is the leaning of the mixture due to trying to prevent too much fuel. I have done some research and found some people simply swapping the float needle with an OEM and fixing the issue, but I’ve also heard of an O-ring at the bottom of the valve seat going bad and leaking through, this having been on various different models. Sorry for the long explanation, but my question is if it is possible to remove and if so how to remove the float valve seat? And is it safe to assume that it is a needle/seat issue and to replace those then readjusting the float? Let me know, thank you!

    • @Fixyourdirtbike
      @Fixyourdirtbike  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you leaking from the overflow hose or the bowl?
      Unfortunately the float valve seat is part of the carb body and can't be replaced, only smoothed out.

    Like I said before I have a 1997 Honda CR250R equipped with a PJ 28l carburetor and a power jet selenoid. Like I said I just don't know what's going on but it will not hold an idle even if I increase the pilot jet up to a 70 stock was a 55 and for some reason it still will not hold an idle there. I've cleaned out the passageways I've literally done everything I can I'm sorry from the float Bowl height which would have been changed from the new float valve but it should only be a minor change not as severe Jane but I don't know if the float Bowl height would cause a rich condition at the bottom end 1 and 2 I don't know if it would cause the bike not to idle on its own. Before all of this happened the bike works fine only after I put the new read cage assembly in it started doing this. I put the stock Reed cage back in and it's still doing it as well I thought I should let you know that. Because I thought by putting the stock one back on maybe it would fix the problem but it hasn't fixed it at all

      That does sound like your float needle is leaking. It's either out of adjustment or the rubber is bad. I usually go to Revzilla's OEM parts finder for single stuff like that. bit.ly/30YS1bt

      Caiden Zagala I was having the same problem on my 01 CR 250 mikuni TMX carb. I ordered a float needle gasket replacement from JD jetting it’s like 6 dollars. Pull the carb out, remove the bowl then take out the white plastic retainer clip inside, remove the floats and take out the needle (remove 1 retainer screw) and gently pull it out. The o-ring on the needle seat is probably the culprit. I replaced mine and it was good to go after that. Replaced stock jets with a JD jet kit and it runs great. Still need to adjust jetting a bit but it doesn’t leak at all any more.

    • @erod6611

    I’m having problems with my 2001 cr250 carb... I actually took my lectron off my bike and put my mikuni back on . The lectron was nice but I feel like I lost a lot of power so I put the mikuni back on but now the bike is so hard to start, the carb is overfilling itself and dumping fuel out of the drain hoses. The carb itself is spotless inside but the floats are still sticking? Think the float height may have went out of adjustment? It’s been sitting in my room for months, I never use to have these problems with this carburetor before

    • @Fixyourdirtbike
      @Fixyourdirtbike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. I would bet the float valve seat O-ring is bad. Super easy fix. I'm more interested about your lectron not performing. Did you talk to them? I picked up a VERY noticeable amount of power with mine.

    • @MrSmokeingood
      @MrSmokeingood 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Fixyourdirtbike well with my lectron my biggest issues with it was that yeah I feel like I lost some top end ...it definitely helped down low in the throttle range though. Also it seemed to overfill easy , say if I were to lay the bike down after I picked it up it was hell to start back up cuz the carb would be filled all the way up. As far as performance goes it definitely ran good but I couldn’t seem to fine tune it to run like my mikuni use to. I’ve tried all the adjustments too, maybe a different metering rod would help
