Can somebody explain why is plowing rarer in North America than in Europe?

I dont know much about us farmers. But I suppose they have more hectares, and ploughing is a bit more intensive cause of the smaller working width. Another reason could be stones in the soil? In NL soils are intensely used and it requiers a good soil conditon, ploughing keeps weeds down when de crop is seeded.

Yield per acre is much lower in North America. Plowing is expensive, consumes a lot fuel per acre so only worth while for high yield crops and soil.

I'm from Canada and I plow all my land, my yields are higher and I use almost no fertilizers and very little chemicals, north Americans are so slow to catch on to any thing, a lot of areas in the US have dead soil due to years and years of no till and loads of chemicals. Lots of farmers told me they can't afford to plow, I look at it this way, I can't afford not to plow, I also do Custom plowing and I get lots of work, I do over 1000 ac/year for other farmers. It's something that is slowly but surely checking on more so in Canada then the US.

@@FarmingBros are you on clay on on sand soil? My dad is a dairyfarmer and we plow each field every -+ 6 years. There is grass for 5 years and then 1 year corn. We never use Roundup just a bit of crop protection in the growing season

@@macf1998 mostly clay soil, depending the area I'm in, there can also be sand. We do the same on are farm, I've seen some people disc a hayfield 5 times over to break it, when they could do it in one pass with plow and a power harrow and its read to seed.

Noticed one plowed furrow a little 'shinier' then the others. It seems to be the last one in the series. Incorrectly set or a function of the weight and length of the implement? Could this be an indication of a formation of a 'plow-pan'?
