I like to say that TXT’s core genre is “nostalgia.” Whether the song is synth pop, UK house, tropical, R&B, garageband rock, whatever-it either sounds nostalgic or the lyrics are nostalgic. I’ve loved seeing their growth as artists, and I think their concept allows for that growth. While their “genre” is nostalgia, their concept is “youth” and “coming of age.” Their earlier discography is more bubbly, more youthful, more “immaturely optimistic” at times-on purpose-and then gets darker and more grounded as time passes, just like growing up. There’s also a narrative progression to their discography, too, with each new album-from starting a new friendship, becoming incredibly close, then having a falling out, experiencing your first romantic love, suffering through your first heartbreak, entering adulthood, reconciling with your old friends, and with this newest album, a mix of reaffirming your friendships & love for your friends, and trying to be hopeful for the future while simultaneously being uncertain and anxious. Their lyrics are very relatable to me, especially their new song Quarter Life. Fantastic discography, there’s a variety of styles and genres and there’s at least one TXT song out there for everyone.
