  • ROAD RULES Video for Teens and All Drivers: When to STOP for the Big Yellow SCHOOL BUS
    When the yellow lights begin to flash on a school bus, it is coming to a stop to load or unload students; you must stop and do not pass the bus. Remain stopped until the stop panels are retracted, the door is closed, and the bus begins to proceed. The only time you are not required to stop for a school bus is if you are in the opposing lanes of the bus on a roadway with a raised median or physical barrier of at least five feet or more.

    This depends on the state I’d highly recommend anyone look up the laws for the specific state your in.

      Correct. This follows Florida law.

    I have seen other cars pass the school bus and it made me wonder about the rule. If they do not have the stop paddles out, is it okay to pass. I went on the side of safety but I would like to know anyway.

    Here in Germany we have the rule to slow down to 4mph if the hazard lights on bus are on, but not many people take this seriously. Do you actually stop for busses in the opposite lane?

    What if the school bus is stop and unloading kids facing the top "T" section, is the vehicle required to stop?

    Why would you have a bus stop on a corner? Makes no sense!!

    If the bus stops at a stop sign and also extends their stop sign, does traffic that does not have a stop sign perpendicular to the bus (in front if it) have to stop as well?

    Okay. Local law was confusing me, only using the word highway instead of roadway. I never thought of slow 35mph local roads as highways.

      @@vsp523 because of terminology? Don't be silly. I have about 1 million driver miles experience and defensive driving training with 0 accidents. You have no clue who you're even talking to.
      It's just certain terms people use like freeway, highway that don't seem like it should apply to small country roads. But I guess it can.

    what about more lanes (3 lanes, 6 for both side) in same direction as school bus. All 3 lanes should stop?

    • @RoyalDart101
      @RoyalDart101 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. But most of the time those roads are separated. Rare but possible.

      All 6 lanes are required to stop if there is no physical barrier between the lanes.

    Can you turn left in front of the school bus?

    • @TrafficSafetyTeam
      @TrafficSafetyTeam  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depending on the intersection and what factors are in play would determine the specific answer. Even though you would not be passing the bus, it is risky as students could dart into the road. Please come to a complete stop, watch for children, and proceed with due care and caution, as kids can sometimes be unpredictable. As a safety advocate, we recommend waiting until all the children are clear of the roadway and the bus signal has been withdrawn. A few minutes of our day is worth avoiding a tragic injury or fatality.

      Yes, because you’re not passing the bus.
