There isnt an archetype of what should be the "fittest" species. You are the fittest if you survive against the rest and pass your genes. We have the capability to erase 80-90% of all species on Earth right now, in about 10 to 15 minutes with Nuclear Bombs. We might not be able to survive that, but there are many bugs that will survive that, and they would be the fittest, able to pass on their genes. There were many kinds of hominids, or human-like creatures, but WE are the ones that survived.
