    Thanks for a v interesting Gouldian finch video ..😊...really good advice for the novice whose thinking of acquiring these magnificent birds.....
    Ive kept Gouldians
    for several years now ..( no mutations)... blackheaded, and orange headed cock birds.... they're exquisite... they're gentle and a v good community finch .. I would always suggest having at least two as they are much happier with their own kind around them rather than being a single Gouldian in a community aviary...they do much better in larger cages, preferably aviaries... they can travel great distances for water in their natural habitat, so prefer a good flight aviary....with some natural (safe) brush/branches ....they require a v good quality finch seed with fresh seeded grasses if possible... Particularly when going through the moult.....they also enjoy a piece of washed apple/lettuce and other greens ...they don't cope well in cold temperatures/any drafts... I have a thermostatically heated aviary to take the chill off the air in winter with clear polyplastic over the wire which can be removed on sunny days.... They get an air sac mite water based treatment about twice a year.....There are some great "Guide to keeping Gouldian Finches" books out there if you decide to enjoy these gorgeous birds...if you get the basics right youll love watching them for years!...gouldians are v intelligent and will recognise you and will quite often come to the wire to say hello...I was extremely lucky to have a beautiful club rung black headed cock bird for 9 years !....a very old age... he was so beautiful and I was so sad when he died..... I only have two black headed Gouldians in a big community aviary these days... both happy and doing v well .....🐦

    @0:22 - @0:28 the ones with RED HEADS are more agressive than the REDHEADS?? What does this mean!? 😭

    • @knownpets
      @knownpets  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s an interesting observation! 😅 It could mean that certain behaviors are tied to their coloration, often linked to their dominance or mating rituals. But it’s always good to remember that individual personalities can vary. Have you noticed any specific behaviors in your own observations?

    Maybe they abandon them if something or someone pays too much attention to the nest.

      Yes...great observation ..I've kept Gouldians for years ...they're a v intelligent and sensitive bird and don't like being handled at all ..however once they get to know you, they'll often come up to the wire to say hello...they're an aviary/large cage bird and not suited to smaller cages at all...they truly are exquisite finches...

      "That’s a good point! Some animals are just super sensitive about their space. It’s all about survival, right? 🐦 Have you ever seen that happen in your own backyard? Nature always has the best stories! 🌿"
