I work at a caustic chlorine plant in Louisiana, we use a lot of plug valves in the caustic unit. We use a lot of plug valves as control valves also. Mainly tuf-line and durco brands. They work pretty well as control valves in certain applications

So, the only major difference that I can see between the Plug Valve and the Ball Valve is that the Plug Valve is suitable for multi-directional flow. Is that right ?

Yes and also ball valves are more suitable for Tight shut off applications as compared to plug valve which may be less relaible. Also the repair and maintenance of the plug valve is more as compared to the ball valve
