After living in the country for most of my life, it always amazes me how so many people are lost when it comes to even the basics like building a proper fire or hiking down a mountain. Glad you posted this video, if it helps even one person you've done your job!

I've been successfully building fires my whole life; from fireplaces and stoves to the tops of mountains during a snowstorm, but for city-folks and the like, they could use this training that just might save their life.

I love the "experts" on here telling a former Delta Operator how to start a fire. Thank God they commented!

Kyle did not do anything special at all. As an outdoorsman who has been successfully building fires my whole life, including on the tops of mountains during a snowstorm, I had thought he was going to teach the really hard parts of fire starting, which he did not.

severecracker the easy way is always the best but using a ferro rod would've been better and more informative

The five tenets of survival are food, water, shelter, fire, and command and signal. When youre cut off they are all about as equally important. And no, not just anyone can start a fire with a lighter, besides redundancy is drilled into operators heads and I am certain SGM would have a second source of fire starting. The only thing I would have emphasized more of is to completely gather and prepare materials before striking a flint.

But , can she start a fire with matches ? Remember "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers ! If she was a real lady she would know real men drink tea (and also the ladies). Also "Hot Chocolate" is another great pick. Made a one hand "Fire Kit" from a large Kiwi Shoe Polish tin. Thank you for a great video ! tjl P.S. Yes, the tin does include a BIC lighter and stormproof matches with the striker and can be used to make "char cloth". And yes made a fire from "match book matches".

Maybe I'm crazy, but aren't a lot of these skills considered basic in Boy Scouts?

Bic lighter is nice but was hoping for a flint and steel or a ferro rod. Fat wood feather stick was a good touch
