NATO is not a defensive alliance. They illegally bombed Yugoslavia (direct violation of the UN Charter). We must never forget what they did to Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Syria etc
NATO needs to understand that playing Russian roulette with a nuclear superpower is never a good idea

Thank you Glen, Alexander and John for this excellent discussion, dissecting and exposing the flawed foreign and defence policy and practices that have trapped us in what appear to be never ending wars. The failure to recognise the opponent's security needs and therefore unable to clearly define what a victory would mean, is a common enough problem, but surely one that state political leaders should be capable of.

    Dear Glenn,
could you detail the idea of another world order especially in contrast to Mearsheimer's theory of the Offensive Neo-Realism which he thinks describes the only possible world order on our world always producing one leading Hegemon who will try to take care to stay on top of the food chain by any means. Some call it highlander principle.
This hierarchic world order is not what china communicates when it talks about a multipolar world order based on cooperation at eye level.
    So the questions rise:
    1. Is there evidence that there were times in which there wasn't a hegemon dominating more or less brutally over his neighbours or even the whole of the world?
    2. Is the old China with it's Silk Road a good example for such a world order at least for a reasonable time span?
    3. Are there other historic examples for a more humane world order less based on dominance but more on peace and cooperation?
    4. How could we establish such a world order and how can we protect it?

Prof Diesen, would you please consider devoting some time to discussing the geo-political implications of the US ceasing to be the global hegemony and dollar losing the status of reserve currency? I feel that this is the major motivator behind the actions of the United States in Ukraine.
If the US loses its current status, the shift to a Eurasian axis will leave the US economically isolated.

Blitzkrieg + no air superiority = ultimate failure, no question, time is the only factor & that will be dictated by the defender.

An attack on Iran will most likely push them much faster towards NC weapons, and then they will most likely also close down the strait of hormuz which will have severe economic consequences for the whole world. Saudi Arabia also said if Iran gets NC weapons they will as well, and after that israel is gonna be even more isolated.
So you´re absolutely right when you say that Israel is going against their own interests.

1:10:11 the "don't divide to good & evil" sounds right to me, BUT I'm also pretty sure "the others" actually should think that way, and "we" are definitely the bad guys, evil, etc. There is no reasoning with us, we have no legitimate security concerns, etc. I think Prof Mearsheimer's wisdom (& wisdom it is) may fall apart for current era Russia, Iran, China, North Korea, etc. Someday it might re-apply for them against the west, but for now, it's pointless & even counter-productive for them vs us, to a deadly & tragic extent.

At the risk of dismissing the informed analyses of these brilliant men, they're missing the point entirely. For it is clear to me that the Ukraine war has never been about rational goals or outcomes. It is simply and solely about the profits of the arms industry. The idea that Zelensky has a say in any aspect of the war is therefore absurd. Which makes it all the more tragic that the Ukrainians seem willing to commit suicide for that cause, apparently unaware that the Americans will drop them like a bad habit once they're ready for a more lucrative war with China - as they did in Vietnam, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Gaza genocide is driven by the same interests, though there are incurable and self-described Zionists like Biden who actually share the Israeli goal. But both interests are not in any conflict: indeed, they reinforce each other. In any event, the suggestion that the Americans are trying to rein in their ideological soulmates in Tel Aviv is ludicrous beyond words, nit least given who's providing the weapons.

  • @GenghisDon1970

Yes, the yankee forced suicide attack offensive was a disaster for Ukraine...but there are no take backs in war. Indeed even if the magical monday morning quater-backing was possible, Defense is demoralizing to the defenders. Pure defense from Ukraine would still, inevitably, end in defeat; it would take longer is all. All 3 of you note Russia considers this existential danger...they could not give up or stop. Hence, it's only a matter of time. Certainly, Ukraine never should have gone to war at all. Once they did, however, they HAD to come up with some outside the box plans or else defeat is INEVITABLE.

  • @jessiejb4684
    @jessiejb4684 หลายเดือนก่อน

The bandera ideology may seem irrelevant but it’s central to this conflict as well as its continuation. Winning this war isn’t existential for Ukraine as a state but it is for the ideology that has driven them to it.
