This tutorial is soooooooooo much better than the older one. With more explanation and more excercises of how you can start working on it - thank you Epic1. :)) I now have a foundation to work on. Best wishes and good luck! Bring more of the goodies! ;)
Dear Kyle, thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. I`ve been working on the Aerial for some months without any visible succes. Your video was the finishing touch. Thank you =)
really good tutorial :) i like the fact that you gave a build up technique and showed how to get to the point that you would be comfortable preforming an aerial
@OneSidePack Aerial is a cartwheel without your hands :) Sideflip is a flip. The main difference is leg position and posture. With an aerial you usually do not tuck in your leg at all, and they are not paralell, they follow each other (just like a cartwheel). Hope this helps.
Gymnastic aerial involves usually a run up but not always, basically you go forwards, turn in the air to go sideways and land backwards.. so front to back. And XMA aerial (martial arts aerial) is basically an aerial that starts sideways and lands sideways.. so side to side.
I am in the xma group at my martial arts school and these videos have helped ALOT for me to do this stuff. i was able to get my kip up thanks too you, and now im close to dive rolls, back flips, kicks, and much more thanks1
Thanks man! This helped me so much. Ive been trying it for weeks, and i just got it in my yard on the first shot! Your my role model:D Keep up your awesomeness:D
last year i saw my friend do it.it looked hard cause she was a cheerleader and even she had problems with it.now that i have learned the b-kick it seems much easier.i still havent perfected the aerial yet.thanks for the tutorials!
hey kyle/epic i just wanted to say that this tutorial,in fact all of your tutorials have really helped me a lot! because if your tutorials i can now do a butterfly kick, XMA aerial and a back handspring! so just wanted to say thanks for putting the time and effort to make the tutorials ;)
This is very helpful for me. I instinctively put my hand out and i make a one handed cartwheel... so like you said our head is close to the ground right?
@TheRuneSlayer same with me but try it with a jstep spin before, get down realy low then push up like crazy with your back leg swinging up. i first landed mine by resisting to put my hand down, you just land at a bad angle.
Hey Epic, I'm a gymnast and coach and an aspiring freerunner, and you have been very inspirational to me thus far. I find this comment quite disturbing though. As a gymnast, straight legs, and pointed toes are disciplined into us from an early age, and we religiously believe that good form prevents injury and betters technique. Also, contrary to some beliefs, the vast majority of male gymnasts are straighter than the poles that hold up those pink tents. Keep this in mind and "stay positive"!! :)
Keep at it and you will get it, trust me. It helps to learn a butterfly kick and think about whipping your legs over instead of up, also try to dip more from there, that's what helped me anyway. Good luck :)
I am 97k ,6ft, 37 years old and cant wait to go back out and try again! got the butterfly kick down n 1 handed cartwheel so im happy already. thanks epic... blommin rain!!
@Cokemaple hey, i am no expert (but i can aerial onto sand... every once in a while lol) and flexibilitiy helps alot. The Ryan Doyle tutorial of this really explains it well, but basically the further up your lift leg is before you leave the ground then the less it has to travel to your landing. My flexibility was really bad as well, be you can always improve! I am currently doing alot of kick push stretching to become better and I encourage you to improve upon your weaknesses as well. Peace
2:43 I don't think that pointing your toes really makes a difference but if you keep your legs straight that will aid you momentum and make it easier, so I highly recommend doing so.
@Epic1 Yes, it is VERY possible. At 32yrs old I'm 5'9" and about 205lbs.I can do aerials and backflips among other things. I play capoeria so that helps me too. But the main thing for most people is fear and trust. Get over the fear of failing. You'll mostly likely to fail the first couple of times but keeps trying. If you're afraid to fail then you'll never succeed. And trust that your body, when asked of it, can and will do things that you've never imagined.
Like you do a front-handspring? well that also happened to me, my tip is when you do a cartwheel, tighten your hands and body and spread your legs v-shaped while your in mid-air, also tighten your legs while it's in the mid-air.Just don't put your legs together while in the mid-air and don't take too long in the air.
it takes time man. just drill the move over and over and you will eventually get it. try practicing one-handed carthweels until they become very easy. then try to rely less on your arm to hold you up by swinging your legs over fast and with a lot of power. hope this helps!
Hey epic thanks for the tutorial, I've just got one thing that I'm constantly getting stuck on and I don't know the best way to overcome - it always feels like I'm not getting enough hight so I instinctively put a hand on the floor to push myself up again, how do you overcome this?
the way i did it was just doing the aerial from a point so i had more air time and the ground was further away so i could not touch it, i then repeated until my hand did not try to grab the floor
I can do a cartwheel 2-handed and 1-handed and can also jump the 1-handed, but somehow I can't do without. it will either look like a butterfly kick, or I would rather land on my face than on the legs.
@Bleach414 you need the cartwheel because the aerial is a cartwheel without the hands, the cartwheel is the very basic for aerial, thats like saying you want backflip 360 but not normal backflip :P it isnt working :P
i had that problem too, what i did is tried to to a super fast and tiny one handed and tried to take off my hand befor my feet hit the ground,but....when u do that ur body naturely makes ur hand just hit the ground with no pressure on it.....and just work ur way from there
This is overdue and I'm pretty sure you'd have figured it out what to begin with by now, plus I'm not Epic1. But in case someone else wants to know, start with Tornado kick, Pop 360, Cartwheel, Aerial, 540 kick, and finally, Backflip. There's more but this is the straight-foward list to do.
Hey man, great tutorial. Not sure if you're still checkin for replies, but I was hoping you could give me a some tips on how you keep your head down during the XMA Aerial? I can do a B-Kick, which I used to learn the Aerial, but I still keep my head/shoulders really horizontal, I can't figure out how you stay almost perfectly vertical during your Aerial. It's almost a side-flip, where as mine is still just a B-Kick. Any tips? Thanks.
@epic1 Hey epic I don't know if you even do parkour any more but how would you rank the difficulties (comparatively) of a raiz, an aerial, and a butterfly kick? Just wondering which of these similar moves I should work on first.
Hey Epic I'm still having some problems with this-.- I try to stay positive but it seems that every time I try I fail I keep putting my hands down like a cartwheel. Help? Any tips? I've tried to use less and less my hands but I can only get as far as one hand.
I learned the butterfly kick first, so I would say that's easier for me. However that might be because I've been doing martial arts almost my whole life, and only doing parkour and tricking for the past 4 years.
Epic , can you tell me how to swing my legs over me. I put my body down , and look through my legs , but my legs don't go over me , they just swing around like in a b-kick. What should I do to get my legs higher.
I like how your dog attacks the camera halfway through the video lol. Umm so on your gymastics aerial do you use your arms to create torque (it looks like you do)? I am having trouble getting rotation but am slowly getting better and I hope this will help. (PS I am only on here asking cuz I got done training today so I cant try it myself... today)
@domukas00 try to work up speed, have a long runway to practice on. i learned side flips before arials and back360s before b-twist. but when i tried an arial off a bench and it was perfect(to me), then later built up the speed needed for the ground(: hope it helps
Honestly ive watched most of your tutorials and i never actually fully listened to them i tryed to rush and skim them but now gong back its so much easier lol but do you have any help for a frontflip cause i land mine but it sends shocks through my feet and i dont land straight i land in more of a tucked position and stand up but i do land on my feet. Itd mean alot if you helped thanks :)
How exactly do you progress from the ' cheat ' aerial to the gymnastic one? I can do the cheat aerial consistently with perfect technique but just can't seem to stop putting my hands down in the gymnastics aerial.
Hey what did you call the martial arts aerial? And how do you spell that? You do it just like I do, I built it up from a butterly kick. Thanks for the tutorials!! All of them
I have tried it so many times and failed so many times. Now i'm able to do it from a hight (around foot-hip hight) but how do i learn it on a flat ground now?
Epic I need your help I have landed something that looks damn close to an aerial. I jump, then hit the 180 close to the peak of my jump, then tuck my legs close to my chest then over my head landing facing the opisite direction I have no idea what its called. Do you?
okay so i just started doin one handed cartwheels. still i am confident enough in my Asian-ness to have the ability to do this yet when ever i try to one arm just shoots out of no where is that my senses saying im gonna fall, or is it that subconsciously i think i am about to fall on my face???
Okay so yesterday I could land aerials somewhat good. Now when I do them, my legs are bent and it looks more like a high bkick. :/ could it be that my legs ache from doing them too many times yesterday??... Please respond!! And this tutorial helped me ALOT! Thank you! :D
You don't need to be extremely flexible to do this but it helps, and usually even if you can't do splits you will probably do the splits in the air while doing this and you won't even know ^^
Hey Epic, sorry this doesn't really go with anything in the video.........but, I'm a decent freerunner but I kick with my right leg and twist to my right. It makes some tricks harder, but also opens up being able to do it both ways. For example, I can btwist both ways, but can only cork one way (at the moment) So my question is, is there any trick that you know of in freerunning/tricking and you twist toward your kicking leg? I've already been trying krocs.
@AlexPanacro im a competitive gymnast and ya i do freerunning stuff all the time, no bigie except my coach hates the form and how my legs arent always straight and my toes arent all pretty and pointed.
@MrPreditorix same happens to me! The furthest I got was when i was in about a handstand position, but my hands always seem to hit the ground whatever I do. Help?!?!
I'm 5'5".Although i learnt the front flip first within two months but the aerial seems to be taking forever to learn.i have been working on the move for 4 months now
This tutorial is soooooooooo much better than the older one. With more explanation and more excercises of how you can start working on it - thank you Epic1. :)) I now have a foundation to work on. Best wishes and good luck! Bring more of the goodies! ;)
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you actually mentioned ways to START learning and practicing these, your tutorials maybe long but you're very thorough
Dear Kyle,
thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. I`ve been working on the Aerial for some months without any visible succes. Your video was the finishing touch.
Thank you
=)
The philosophy that I now follow? Epic-ism. Seriously, those little quotes you add at the end inspire me so much. Thanks epic!
really good tutorial :) i like the fact that you gave a build up technique and showed how to get to the point that you would be comfortable preforming an aerial
@OneSidePack Aerial is a cartwheel without your hands :) Sideflip is a flip. The main difference is leg position and posture. With an aerial you usually do not tuck in your leg at all, and they are not paralell, they follow each other (just like a cartwheel). Hope this helps.
Already know how to do a tricker aerial but I'm watching this because u are awesome at tricking!!!
Gymnastic aerial involves usually a run up but not always, basically you go forwards, turn in the air to go sideways and land backwards.. so front to back.
And XMA aerial (martial arts aerial) is basically an aerial that starts sideways and lands sideways.. so side to side.
@Epic1 Thank you! It will be nice to find all of your tutorials in one place. They're fantastic btw, I'm learning a lot thanks to you.
Your my role model:D Keep up your awesomeness:D
liked the mountain analogy! I can do butterfly kicks only so far so at least I know I've started the climb already. motivating thanks!!!
last year i saw my friend do it.it looked hard cause she was a cheerleader and even she had problems with it.now that i have learned the b-kick it seems much easier.i still havent perfected the aerial yet.thanks for the tutorials!
@HCRogue Height is not an issue, finding ur center of gravity is
Yes, the lift and push concept used for the Webster will work for the Aerial considering it's very similar.
hey kyle/epic i just wanted to say that this tutorial,in fact all of your tutorials have really helped me a lot! because if your tutorials i can now do a butterfly kick, XMA aerial and a back handspring! so just wanted to say thanks for putting the time and effort to make the tutorials ;)
awesome video! the push with the one hand helps me a lot. thanks dude!!
This is very helpful for me. I instinctively put my hand out and i make a one handed cartwheel... so like you said our head is close to the ground right?
you're a natural teacher.
the one handed cartwheels help a lot. make sure your torso is low and your legs will go high!
@leronolifephamsteru in the gimnastic one you do more of a 180 move while your fliping and you end up facing the other way
you the man. keep up the good tutorial. I need to get this down for my capoeira. when I do this, I always fall down when I m upside down in mid-air.
@TheRuneSlayer same with me but try it with a jstep spin before, get down realy low then push up like crazy with your back leg swinging up. i first landed mine by resisting to put my hand down, you just land at a bad angle.
brother you are the best, thanks for all tutorials i am from greek and you have respect.
Hey Epic, I'm a gymnast and coach and an aspiring freerunner, and you have been very inspirational to me thus far. I find this comment quite disturbing though. Epic, Thank you for all these great tutorials, I have actually learned from a few of these. -Dan
i like that you work on ambidexterity. it seems like a lot of trickers can only go in one diretion.
2:43 I don't think that pointing your toes really makes a difference but if you keep your legs straight that will aid you momentum and make it easier, so I highly recommend doing so.

Thank you SO MUCH, Epic! I finally got my gymnast aerial down!
Cartwheel, handstand against a wall, roundoff, running frontflip, front handspring, and some kicks.
Hey epic thanks for the tutorial, I've just got one thing that I'm constantly getting stuck on and I don't know the best way to overcome - it always feels like I'm not getting enough hight so I instinctively put a hand on the floor to push myself up again, how do you overcome this?
Hey Thanks! Working up from a butterfly kick really helps.
Epic, I think it would be totally rad if you organized your tutorials into a playlist so that we can find them easily. :D
the way i did it was just doing the aerial from a point so i had more air time and the ground was further away so i could not touch it, i then repeated until my hand did not try to grab the floor
I can do a cartwheel 2-handed and 1-handed and can also jump the 1-handed, but somehow I can't do without. it will either look like a butterfly kick, or I would rather land on my face than on the legs.
everybodies different im sure but for me,its learning backflips, areials, side flips & front flips then put those in combos, then kicks
@Bleach414 you need the cartwheel because the aerial is a cartwheel without the hands, the cartwheel is the very basic for aerial, thats like saying you want backflip 360 but not normal backflip :P it isnt working :P
So with the dipping of the body, it helps to swing the legs over; to get that "spring" feeling right?
wow nice hook kick and overall great tutorial I'll try this as soon as the ice goes away
you sir, are a truly cool dude
@Epic1 Thanks man, I'm not quite getting it at the moment but I'll take your advice, keep persevering and stay positive
i had that problem too, what i did is tried to to a super fast and tiny one handed and tried to take off my hand befor my feet hit the ground,but....when u do that ur body naturely makes ur hand just hit the ground with no pressure on it.....and just work ur way from there

4:43 I like the cat that walked by the camera.
@afont644 drill it. practice , practice practice. when u get more comfortable you can do it just like that. and get ur body used to the movement
@epic1 Hey epic I don't know if you even do parkour any more but how would you rank the difficulties (comparatively) of a raiz, an aerial, and a butterfly kick? Just wondering which of these similar moves I should work on first.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR SWEAT PANTS SOMEONE PLZ TELL ME
Hey Epic I'm still having some problems with this-.- I try to stay positive but it seems that every time I try I fail I keep putting my hands down like a cartwheel. Help? Any tips? I've tried to use less and less my hands but I can only get as far as one hand.

Hey epic how flexible do you need to be to do this cause wen you did the ariel you were almost in a split do you need to stretch before or just do it?
@Epic1 Should I swing my arms down like the butterfly so I can get more speed or something?
@Angelbikost If it helps dude, I have the same problem, as long as you get your legs up and straight-ish and your body down then it's an aerial.
It's almost the same as a butterfly kick, except that the upper-body is leaning to almost upside-down during an aerial
Epic , can you tell me how to swing my legs over me. I put my body down , and look through my legs , but my legs don't go over me , they just swing around like in a b-kick. What should I do to get my legs higher.
thanks a lot!! :) your tutorial is gr8!! i just felt doing this easy with the hook.. :)
I like how your dog attacks the camera halfway through the video lol. Umm so on your gymastics aerial do you use your arms to create torque (it looks like you do)? 3:08 That was funny 😂
You are awesome
Please wich martial art are you practicing !
How exactly do you progress from the ' cheat ' aerial to the gymnastic one? I can do the cheat aerial consistently with perfect technique but just can't seem to stop putting my hands down in the gymnastics aerial.
Thanks man this video helped me a lot to improve my aerial! :) Can't do gymnastics version yet tho ;P
Hey what did you call the martial arts aerial? And how do you spell that? You do it just like I do, I built it up from a butterly kick. Thanks for the tutorials!! All of them

haha its funny cause i can btwist, aerial, and sidelfip fine. but when it comes to front and backflips i go over my shoulder, which is really annoying
Okay so yesterday I could land aerials somewhat good. Now when I do them, my legs are bent and it looks more like a high bkick. :/ could it be that my legs ache from doing them too many times yesterday??... Please respond!! And this tutorial helped me ALOT! Thank you! :D

Great needed a tutorial on this one, GJ!
Hey Epic, sorry this doesn't really go with anything in the video.........but, I'm a decent freerunner but I kick with my right leg and twist to my right. I've already been trying krocs.
is it a good way to try these flips on a trampoline first, than on the ground?
@The3adama do your ariel with your hands down for a little less each time. Just believe in your self
hey epic, whats more difficult for you: an aerial or a butterfly kick ??
ok ,i like ur style man and the new haircut :D:D, i have 1 question:1 which do u think that is the easiest flip?
JEEZ I SHOULDVE THOUGHT OF THE ONE HANDED CARTWHEEL AND EXAGGERATED BUTTERFLY KICK!!! GAAAH!!!
would u say do a butterfly kick but lower and higher? I stuff it I jump then get scared and do a cartwheel lol
I can do a butterfly kick on on one side but when I try the aerial on that side im not comfortable with it
@AlexPanacro im a competitive gymnast and ya i do freerunning stuff all the time, no bigie except my coach hates the form and how my legs arent always straight and my toes arent all pretty and pointed.
hey how do i stop my hands from coming down when i land? i try to hold my arms as tight to my body as i can but they always come down at the landing
@MrPreditorix same happens to me! The furthest I got was when i was in about a handstand position, but my hands always seem to hit the ground whatever I do. Help?!?!
Nice bro! what kind a camera do u use?
@superfrisbie hey man thanks for the tip, I'll try it out next time I go to practice.
When I do a cartwheel I kinda go backwards when I put my hands on the ground. Any tips?
I'm 5'5".Although i learnt the front flip first within two months but the aerial seems to be taking forever to learn.i have been working on the move for 4 months now
Are you going to be making more videos soon?
does flexibility help a lot and when I jump do you look at the ground? :D
When I aerial I end up catching with my opposite hand so it becomes a one handed cartwheel any suggestions
yah i was wondering if you did extreme martial arts. do u do ATA?
Hey epic, can you plz tell me how to stop putting my hands down. I tried everything but i just keep putting em down right after i jump into it.
