    As a chicken owner myself, just make sure you lower their roosting bar once you cut the feathers. They ain't gonna be able to roost if it's 7 ft up.

    Figured out over the past 15 years of keeping chickens, if the people they know treat them well and respect them, be gentle and don't be threatening to them. They will remember that and they won't be crazy or mean to you. Our last generation we have been doing that with, now we have 5 chickens, including our two roosters that will let you pick them up and hold them, and they trust us so much that we can even lift and move their wings without them flinching or getting scared. Apparently chickens have very good memory and are very sensitive lol

      That's not what im worried about. If he wants theit wings clipped so they can't fly out, they can't fly if a predator manages to get in and goes after them. Theyll be dead. Then the guy is going to blame the poor predator even tho HE was the one who clipped their wings and hindered their ability fo fly, so then hes going to go hunt and murder that poor animal for just trying to survive and probably bring back food for their kids

      @@user-ug5xr2gb6j those dogs can either get hurt by a predator or be the one to hurt the predator. Besides, chickens will naturally return to their coop each evening if it's established as their home. You can also easily train them to come when called, whether it's time for them to go into the coop at night or if you spot a day predator or another situation. You don't take away their natural defense and their beautiful wing deaths to make them stay on the ground. Just like how you don't descent skunks to keep them from using their natural defense and spraying

    Another tactic, put a chicken wire skirt along the top. Just need a foot or so. Then cut the top so theres no definitive top wire. If they dont see a solid horizontal wire at the top then they dont realize the wire ends. They wont fly out of it. Pretty effective at keeping them in and as a bonus helps keep racoons and possoms out. They dont like to climb wobbly wire.

Now anytime I’m outside they all run up to me to be held (we call this “uppies ♥️). I can easily cut their wings without a fuss from most of them. It’s harder to train this when they’re older though for sure. Gotta start young pulling their wings from their body or they’ll always try and escape. I can even do this with my roosters but they’re less affectionate of course. They have a job to do and won’t stay still long.

    It definitely works. Also, people who think chickens cannot fly are so wrong. Mine got 30 feet up into a tree one day. That’s when I knew I had to clip their wings. Must clip the right ones though and be careful because they can bleed out if you clip the wrong part or too high

    My chickens are friendly and comfortable with me. I just walk up to them, put my hand by the back of their legs, and with my other hand i scoot the chicken by its chest onto my hand. And boom, the chicken is standing on my hand. Sometimes i like to gently hold it down and press it against my chest so it feels safe and so that it won't jump off or fly away from me. You can also put the chicken on your arm and let it roost on you.

    My chickens always came back if they left the pen bc they knew where the food and water was. Had one that would fly right to me every time she saw me. She was so sweet. I'm ok w flying chickens. That's how they were designed.

    In my experience, the best way to catch a chicken is to wait until dark. Go in the coop and just scoop them up one by one. No fuss when you catch them in their sleep.

    I know that people do this and I guess I get the idea but I'm personally not a fan of clipping birds wings, these feathers will never fully regrow and will impair them for the rest of their life. I'd say get a higher fence, maybe even put a net on top of it to protect them from birds of pray.

    • @mark_szekeres
      @mark_szekeres 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Guess what. Their feathers fall out and grow back. It's called molting 😮😮😮

    • @KiriGoldfishQueen
      @KiriGoldfishQueen 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@mark_szekeres Yes, Mark. Very good. Birds moult! But Problem is that it takes a long time for all of the primary feathers to regrow, even longer if the bird is under environmental or mental stress. And tell me, do you think that their owner is going to leave them alone if they regain their ability to fly? No, then he has the problem of them running away again so, the easiest awnser is to clip them again.
      Additionally, while clipped the birds will still try to use their wings, or in the case of the video be thrown apparently which both can lead to injuries to the bird. This is why it is mostly discouraged when it comes to pets like parrots or parakeets, not so much for poultry, but it is still something I'd still not recommend because the loss of their ability to fly can cause unnecessary stress.
